I have the subcompact 18v Makita with the 2.0amp batteries that I bought as a combo kit 3 years ago and have no complaints. The batteries are real good and the rapid charger charges a low battery in about 25 minutes . I really like the overall feel of the Makita. It’s near perfect feel/balance ratio. I have not tried the Metabo but I’m sure it’s a great product.

Thank you for talking about some of the more subjective things like grip and comfort. I have personally gone through many tool brands over the years because of ergonomics specifically. And for me, the one handed bit insertion and ejection is a huge deal and every manufacturer should prioritize that! My 10 year old DeWalt has it and a person gets used to having that feature.

I agree the rigid sub compact has the smallest head out of all brands buts it looks odd with the massive battery on it but its not proportionate from head to body @Philly Fixed

I have the subcompact drills from Makita and HPT. They are also remarkably similar in size, weight & performance. The elephant in the room is price. You can get the HPT so reasonably priced...on sale it is like $80. But it also has the added benefit of being able to use the 36v batteries...which not only adds the power level indicator as a feature, but doubles your runtime by scaling the A/hr. So...all things considered I have to give the advantage to Metabo HPT. Stepping into the 36v platform gives you access to an outstanding range of tools.
@PhillyFixed

This Makita is awesome, most recently i used it to mount mats and stuff in a cargo van, both screwing and drilling, Used it with a small 2ah battery pack, the whole thing is really lightweight and a true joy to use. The trigger is excellent for using low speed to not damage small screws, very fine and precise control. I dont get people who buy impact drivers for power, do these people ever use their powertools for real life stuff, like, you know, for actual work?

If you were driving 8" timberloks building decks all day, a Milwaukee M18 Fuel might make sense. But as a "professional homeowner," Makita is my go-to. Although I do like the M12 Surge as well.

@@PhillyFixed .... I guess it really also depends on the person ... I would never buy a Milwaukee and even less a Dewalt ... that is just me ... quality and reliability is more important to me and the previous two are way behind in those areas - as I and a few people I know have experienced !!! But again.. IMO. Oh yes... and the Ridgid lifetime warranty is useless (two close friends have never been able to get repairs / replacements for their broken units ... so they both changed everything they had to Makita.... maybe just their luck but I have heard that from other random people too. BTW... I do enjoy your videos !! Great job ...

This was a great honest review and I'd be happy with either of these tools.I happened to recently buy a flex because I was curious about it. I do like the fact it's a 24v system and it comes with a2.5 and 5ah batteries. I don't have a preferred platform that I stay with as imo....every brand has one specific tool that shines. Some of my tools are very inexpensive some cost a few dollars more.. I have a 65 dollar craftsman jigsaw, I also have a 350 dollar dewalt impact wrench. My circular saw is lost somewhere in the garage, but I only paid around 40 dollars for it...my tools work for me and I've had close to every major name out there with makita being the brand I've had the most of.thankyou for posting the video...let me add....I work at lowes in the tool department...yea, it's a cool job!...let me also point out I'm originally from south jersey...just across the b ridge from Philly...a big shout out to my Philly neighbors

Regarding Metabo's warranty...Lifetime warranty means the tool's lifetime. That means that when that tool line is discontinued, so is your tool warranty!
@histguy101
@histguy101 2 года назад
It means that they'll honor the warranty as long as they have parts to do so. If you bought a tool today, and it was discontinued in 6 months, you'd have about 5-7years of warranty on it. If you bought a new tool just released, you'd get about 10-12 years of warranty. That's about as good as it gets

@pflaffik
@pflaffik 3 года назад
Its best as it is, the translations preserves the original message and style, the focus is on the information. I very much prefer the technical tone of Makita than the language focused shit of too many western companies where manuals are written by the sales department and revised by linguists who add "for a more dazzling experience" to every instruction. Im quite sure its the same people who write in-flight magazines.

@FyrFytr998
@FyrFytr998 3 года назад
I like these head to head videos, but ultimately feel they are more for bragging rights. For instance, let’s say Metabo was a super beast of a sub compact and decimated the shoot out. The fact remains with the exception of Rigid, every other brand has more to offer on their respective battery lines. So I think people would be more prone to purchase from those lines first.
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed 3 года назад
Yeah, I wish Metabo HPT had a more extensive line; I really like their 36V tools, particularly the saws. But it seems like they are working aggressively to expand it, maybe in a couple years they'll start catching up. But I don't think anyone will ever rival Ryobi for sheer number and variety of tools.
@engineer_alv
@engineer_alv 3 года назад
Some people don't need a full lineup and may put value on top of their list. Having said so, I find it difficult for a regular owner to switch over to Metabo HPT if they're already invested in another battery platform. But I find that kit very compelling for someone who hasn't owned cordless tools or maybe is upgrading from some entry level brand
