Introducing our NEW HP line, brushless, high power, works best with our HP batteries that really communicate with HP tools and deliver the best performance. Looks up kit: does not come with any HP batteries. Every time. If you don't get dinged for that, where do you get dinged for stupid brand decisions? Milwaukee doesn't do it. They have HO but dont say basically you need it for the advertised performance, and the tools that do need it come with one (1" impacts). Bosch says you need their profactor batteries, but has enough respect for you to not sell you a worse battery with it as a kit. It's like advertising 0-60 times with wide slicks then selling the car ONLY with 195 commuter tires. Good testing Jim!

A theme with TTI. And SBD is even worse for putting those pathetic 1.3's in kits with XR tools. They know it's embarassing so they don't even print the amp hour rating on the sticker. Kobalt at least sells an Ultimate Output battery in their XTR kits.

I enjoyed that video. The winner was by design from TTI. They go DIY, Apprentice and Pro with Ryobi being the DIY and Ridgid being the apprentice level. Neither would stand a chance against Milwaukee. I will say, having used Ryobi before, they don't get much better with a bigger battery. It has to be their 3.0ah high output in order to really see a difference.

Being a Ridgid guy, I have to come to Ryobi's defense. 1.5 aH v 2 aH. That's 9 more watts of power for the Ridgid. A step further... if you're going to be fair, use the HP battery on the HP tool. They are designed to work together to deliver the highest performance. Then to make it completely fair, put a Max output on the Ridgid brushless.
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed Год назад
I'll refer you to 2:07. Also, the subcompact tools lack the extra 2 terminal connections on the rear of the stem that provide additional communication between the tool and High Performance batteries, so the benefit of an HP battery would rely entirely on the increased current output of the cells used, which would be negligible on tools this small. Thanks for watching.

I wouldn't go from Hitachi/Metabo HPT to Ryobi. That would likely be a huge downgrade.
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed 3 года назад
I agree with @Tools with SoAlz here. I hadn't used any Metabo HPT (Hitachi) tools prior to starting this channel. But now that I have some, they're competing with Makita for my favorite tool line. I wish the Metabo HPT line was a bit more extensive though, they don't venture out into specialty tools much. But their saws, drills, impacts and nailers are best-in-class. I think Metabo HPT for core/heavy-use tools and Ryobi for one-off/random or occasional-use tools would be a good strategy for building a collection. Hart would also be a good fit in that Ryobi slot, they seem to be aggressively expanding their line.

The Ryobi looks good framed along side big words reading "THE WRONG BATTERY". Who wants to buy a tool/battery combo with the wrong batteries?

TTI missed the mark on both of these kits! And shame on Ryobi for discontinuing the P195 with 21700s. I found a straggler (I assume it was an online order return) P195 at my local store and picked it up. Plan to do some tests with it.

that ridgid and makita, the only subcompacts i have a eyes for. I'm glad someone is finally doing subcompact versus as they are competent tools without the typical size and weight. My complaint with the ridgid is the stem that holds the battery size (its mostly plastic and could have been much smaller), m12 competition? I have octanes with much smaller stems and the new brushless also have smaller stems than the subcompacts. Thats just not right. Makita is the black rubber dream!

I just bought the Ryobi. Got it at the direct tools outlet tool only so I can get a better battery like the 2 amp or the go battery. Got a great deal on it $69 factory blem. I’ve had great luck with the factory blems and reconditioned units from direct tools. Infact I’ve got the 12 volt drill I’ve had for 5 years now and still works great same battery aswell.

Great test, I was checking the Ridgid at Home Depot the other day and it's really compact, but feels weird with the "huge " battery. I think would be perfect as a 12 volt in Milwaukee style.

@geoffstrickler
@geoffstrickler 3 года назад
Yes. This is Ridgid’s weak spot on the subcompact line. Yes, they’ve done as much as they can to shrink their new batteries, but there just isn’t much you can do when you have to fit in 5 cells and a bulky connector designed for your full sized, and previously bulky, 18V tools. Makita, Skil, and DeWalt all opted for 12V slide-pack batteries as their primary subcompact models, although Makita and DeWalt do offer 18V subcompact models with similar battery size issues.

@pflaffik

If it makes people go back to the store to buy HP batteries its very profitable for Ryobi and profitable for retailers too, its clearly kitted with the right battery. Whats wrong is that its a Ryobi, it wasnt cheap to switch to Makita but it was abundantly worth it. That being said, i kept the Ryobi tools, most are good enough for most tasks (except the utterly crappy impact wrench) but i really dislike the thick handles; Ryobi is committed to not changing their batteries but i wish they did.

I dont care much about the power, using a subcompact with a 6Ah battery would be a paradox in my book. I got the Makita brushless subcompact, using it with a light 2Ah battery, its a delight in every way.
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed 3 года назад
I think for those that own the XDT16 and a 2.0aH battery, there's no reason to purchase the Makita subcompact. But if you don't have an impact and need a light-duty version, the Makita is a decent choice although not one of my favorites from the brand.

It would be good to know which tools actually benefit from the HP Batteries I do know that not all HP tools actually need the HP battery,.. I suspect that this drill may not unless the user guide recommends it. Would have to run the test to see i guess. For some reason i find the styling of AEG tools (Rigid branded) to be too bulky and boxy (mostly the battery) for my liking and could not get into it.

Great video to test the AS IS tool kit, but really limited and disappointed that you didn’t take the extra time to throw the other battery on it to truly test it against the ridgid. In other words, it’s kind of a crappy video if one wants to know the true capacity of the actual tool, which seems to be the point of the video (according to the title). Maybe it should say “cheaper Ryobi kit vs Ridgid kit”. Just kinda wasted my time expecting to see the capabilities of the actual tool. Just saying.
@betods1013
@betods1013 3 года назад
Its the correct battery. I'm tired of these videos (not yours) trying to get all the tools to have the exact same battery config - voltage, size, cell count, color, build factory, same 12-year-old to put it together, yada yada yada. Those two batteries are roughly the same. .5 AH will not make a difference. And if you were to use an HP battery, you would have to use the MaxOutput for the Ridgid. Or........the tools should be tested in their bestest, badest, beastliest configuration. Have each tool manufacturer use their best battery available. Basically, I'm tired of all the battery talk. Is the tool good: yes/no. That's all that matters. :) Rant over.
