Wow! This is just about the best interview I have ever watched! Don't let the length hold you back as it elevates from the start and allows you to fly right through it!

Eric is great in that he does not let us take ourselves seriously, while giving time for serious thought.

Eric Metaxas, you made this interview even better than Maxwell's normal 12 on a scale of 10. Hard to imagine, but YOU made this interview a 14! What a delight watching this is! Among the very very very BEST OF THE BEST interviews ever done! Pure delight while serious topics are discussed - like magic! Like gossamer steel! And so wonderful to see you, Dick Cavett - LOVED and watched your interviews feeling pure delight so often I lost count!

Malcolm's response to this lady's question at 1:21:26 just blew my mind. I think my IQ tripled and my worldview expanded geometrically just listening to him and reading his books.

When Indiana Jones shoots the Swordsman in Raiders of the Lost Arc--that is THIS story of David and Goliath.

Mr. Gladwell, you said you haven't fought giants yourself. You're wrong. The giant you fight is conventional thinking. :-)

I don't believe the reason Goliath was a larger person was due solely to a tumor.

While I generally liked the interview, Gladwell appears unwilling to consider views that debunk his theories based on anecdotal deductions. On the other hand, Eric Metaxas, who wrote a great book on Biblical miracles lets Gladwell get away with a ridiculous hypothesis that stretches the idea that height and physical stature is correlated with mental disability to justify his Goliath story. While I am amused by alternative thinking presented by Gladwell's hypothesis, I find its premises very thin and highly overstated. People familiar with this story will learn nothing new and those unfamiliar will not get enlightened

Goliath had a huge spear and a bad attitude to go along with it. David said to him, I will cut your head off. Not to forget that David was a boy. David also said, you come against me with sword and spear. i come against you in the name of the LORD of host, the God of Israel. Goliath even mocked him, because he was a boy. The rest of the story: David slew the giant, cut his head off and the Philistines were routed that day.

+Steven Apell I think the story over looks that Samuel could not find one person in his army willing to engage Goliath. As these were professional soldiers. Yet David was the one chosen to represent Israel on the field of battle because he had faith and Gods ear. Then they forget David was a shepherd and engaged beast of the field in hand to hand combat that would come to kill the sheep. That shows he had courage even as a boy and he also had skills with his chosen weapons. One reason he rejected the kings armor, as he had not proofed it in battle. It was an unknown to David. What really upsets me is people want to think Goliath was some push over when not one person trained as professional soldier stepped forward. It had taken a boy that was feed up with Goliath yelling curse words about his God. As the king stood by and listened. They also miss the part where David didn't just stand there. He charged Goliath with that stone and sling and he taken 7 of the smoothest stones with him. He was in it to win. Where Goliath thought he was a shoe in and it cost him his life while having all the advantages. This is what put the fear of God in the enemy.. Their greatest soldier fell to one young boy with no armor and their next thought was, what the hell would a trained army do to them and they fled!

Very true. The biggest issue here is that no one in Samuels army wanted to face Goliath. Surely a number of them were wise enough to know that Goliath was a very dangerous individual. if they thought he was dumb the would have just sent a guy bigger than David

Steven Apell I forgot to add, David went and killed Goliath's family as well. As I said he was in it to win.

So Goliath was under 7ft tall............ David under the guidance of Saul, challenged him. Goliath, being nearly blind didn't see the "slinger" coming ? Why would the bible repeat such a boring story ?
