Malcolm X | Advice to Muslim women 

Remember the historical context if you may feel offended. The main thing he's addressing in the video is education/knowledge. He was specifically addressing women in the gathering because at the time (late 1950s/early 1960s) it is very uncommon for a woman, especially a black woman, to pursue further education - very few did. It's possible he would say the opposite today but back then it was different.

If u feel offended by someone who gave good advice, then seriously check your ego. I don't care that this is geared towards women. this is such a beautiful advice , he is basically saying as a woman u are capable of so much and your mind is powerful, use it, nurture it. I am a muslim sister and I am the one having trouble finding a brother who reads,who doesnt listen to haram music,who doesn't have a vocabulary like mtv!Subhanallah I desire nourishing conversation n provide it but dont get it back!

This man was ahead of his time and ever since he left the NOI and found the true Islam, he grew more and more till the level, where they had to get rid of him....

Powerful speech!

i am a woman and normally i get angry when a guy 'tells what a girl to do or how she should be' but there is something about malcolm x that makes me agree with him. people are angry that he is simply trying to get across that women should become educated rather than gossiping about another sister or watching tv.. i dont see any wrong in that. in islam we are encouraged to chase for education, to be hungry for knowledge and understanding.. so what is wrong with that? and even though some girls might get offended because the way he puts it makes it appear to be as if it is all for the pleasure and interest of their husbands, i honestly dont see anything wrong with that because what the husband is encouraging his wife to do is to seek knowledge... he isnt asking her to do immoral things or acts which are haram... he is encouraging her to get education and work her brain... when you watch tv unless you are watching some educational programme it pretty much just fries your brain and kills your cells and creativity. moreover if a woman is knowledgeable then she would be able to pass her knowledge on to her children and the world would be a better place.. to those who are questioning you know why do you have to be so obliging twd your husband... islam is just and fair... in islam a woman's right to paradise lies within her husband and a man's right is within his mother. this does not mean the husband can mistreat his wife either because he has the responsibility of providing food and clothes for the family and loving and caring for his wife.

When humility inside of us dies then we aren't up for taking advices no matter how much they focus on benefitting us to produce the best of ourselves. And unfortunately this is what has happened to all of us today. Arrogance in learning, arrogance in communicating, arrogance in living. On a side note Great speach! After 6 decades or so later his words still hold truth because this is wisdom, this is reality! For both men and women. He spoke about the TV screen before it became a world of screens, before mobiles phones! It is relatable more now than it was even then! Unity and understanding, the ability to relate to one another and constantly think and exchange of the path of thinking to one another is the root to evolving and being better individuals, which in turn if done collectively, can result in a better collective society is what I take from this speech. I just love Malcolm X(May Allah bless him with Paradise) because he was a straight forward man...and being a female i dont take offense at what he s saying because this is the reality many muslim girls dont know anything except for tv serials..The tv is their shaykh..Its sad muslim women shouldve been intellectually sound women because we are followers of the greatest generation of women Ayesha,Khadija,Fatima(ra)...women of great understanding and intellect.

The Honorable Marcus Garvey taught a similar thing in his Course of African Philosophy. He said we must engage in four hours of productive reading daily. Goes for both genders.

Im a Christian and this video is so profound. Malcolm X was on point in this speech and this can still be applied today.

If you listen closely he's not attacking women, but he's straightforwardly telling everyone to seek to become intellectual. It's not about gender, it's more about the topic. All I can say is wow. MashAllah. I always tell my husband (about Malcom) I am too young to have been born when he was here but....."I miss him" Sounds strange but. I miss him. When I was in the first grade I heard a speech of his and I said " I want to be a Muslim."It was'nt until almost 20yrs late that I became a Muslim.Mashallah. I am so grateful to God for the opportunity to read Quran,to wear hijab,to worship him.Malcolm was so fortunate to find the TRUE islam before he died.

I love this lecture from Malcolm X. As an African-American Christian, I loved what Malcolm X stood for; he knew the common black man and woman were lost. Most African-American women are so brainwashed these days and just lost to the wrong deities in life; faithful church-goers every Sunday morning, but still leave the sanctuary empty of conscious knowledge that allows them to reach to society ------ Before I watched this video, I just ordered "The Autobiography of Malcolm X (Hardcover)"!!!

No, women did attend school. He was in 50's 60s society of US. However, the women he death were facing racial and sexual discrimination. And as Muslims, you should know there a huge difference in Islam and NAtion of Islam (That MAlcom X followed). Regardless, he is one of the most important figures of our time.

That is the beauty of Islam John, we dont follow the countries who lack the understanding of the religion, the men who blow up themselves. But we follow the teaching of the Prophet Mohammed PBUH who encouraged women to seek knowledge and the Quran. If you research you will learn that women never had rights before Islam and even today in some non-muslim countries, they still do not have rights. Islam did not prohibit women from getting an EUCATION, "PEOPLE" did.
