I think about that often. As a kid in the 70s-80s my imagination and sense of wonder were always turning. Being an only child and spending time with my grand father in the garden (in almost total silence) a lot of learning came natural. Kind of hard to explain what I want. You had to really seek sometimes where like you said, today, in a minute someone today can get the answer off the internet. But is it really learning and sticking with them ? Very good comment you made. Peace be with you
@richardcoolguy7778
@richardcoolguy7778 Год назад
@@PilgrimPiper I would say that the answer is probably not sticking, and that's not the only problem I see with getting the answers right away by checking our phones. It eliminates the need for debate in a lot of areas, because you don't need to figure out how to come to the conclusion, and guide your "opponent" to that conclusion. You just have to say, "let me Google it" and the matter is resolved. When you want an answer to a concept, you have to do what you used to have to do for a simple answer. You need articles, books, etc. The information you come by indirectly, and the hoards of information that accompany your simple answer, bring you a lot of other interesting information and a more solid understanding of the answer you wanted. If ask Google, "Who were the Habsburgs?" I'll figure out who they were. If I decide to read a book in stead, however, I'll come across more information than just "they were X an here's an interesting fact" before I become bored and Google something else. And as is my experience with books, the book will mention something else fascinating, and then I need to get a book about that, too.

@@dislikesolutions2479 I *CRINGE* at your ignorance. For a Black man to be fearless in revealing just how intelligent he actually was and to use that intelligence to directly challenge a White, endemically racist, system of Black oppression was no mean feat. In fact those very characteristics ultimately resulted in his assassination and the early demise of a great, relatively young man. It is so easy to look the other way and become blind to the injustices you see, it is so easy to be a coward and cower in the face of adversity, it is so easy to play dumb and stay silent rather than to call out racial injustice and it is so easy to intentionally act like a fool or simpleton to make a White person feel unthreatened by one's intelligence to avoid the inevitable White racist backlash. @@johnfic4751 You guys are all looking in the wrong places. This kind of insightful discourse is available everywhere. Just don't go looking for it on Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, RT, or any of the major commercial networks. It can seem pretty boring to most people, which is why the commercial news outlets prefer the shouting format. Not all guests are as brilliant, articulate, and frankly charismatic as Malcolm X was. I could listen to him all day and never stop learning. He was far from perfect (he dodged the question about hate speech pretty easily, but they didn't hold him to it - two legged dogs, European demons, etc.), but even in his imperfection, he was made even stronger because he never ran away from it. He was very public about how misguided ("wrong") he was before his haj, and for most people, it would be courageous to admit that. For Malcolm X, I think he was just being himself by talking openly about it. Honesty was not something new to him. It was all he knew, and despite his demeanor, I believe he was very humble. Its POWER in that. Dont under value that fact. For example, I'm an angler right, I could show you how to fish to catch bass but if I just gave you the equipment and said go catch some fish....could you do it? I highly doubt it. But if I gave you the knowledge of the equipment and how to apply it, spool your line, how to tie specific lures and what to look for, then you would take that knowledge yourself, research and apply it. That would be your purpose. Does that make sense?

"Like Malcolm X, the Black Panthers believed that nonviolent protests could not truly liberate black Americans or give them power over their own lives. They linked the African American liberation movement with liberation movements in Africa and Southeast Asia." Sorry but being a member of the Black Panthers he was not alienated by his own culture you weirdo. "After leaving the Muslims, Cleaver joined the Black Panther Party, a militant organization centered around black liberation. After Malcolm X's break with the Black Muslims, he allied himself with the Organization of Afro-American Unity (which he initiated), also a militant organization centered around black liberation."
