Here in Northern California, the overwhelming majority of our waterfowl are all on a rice diet, I can’t taste a huge difference between all the species. Titus had a guy on his podcast a year or so back that wrote a cook book called Duck Duck Goose, and he noted that the ducks are all going to taste different depending on what their diet consist of. Spoonies have a bad reputation of being a bad tasting duck, but they eat just fine here in Northern California.
Loved the taste test 🤣🤣 I’ve never had a problem with gross tasting gads. Granted, cooking over an open fire with no prep is different. That said the Arkansas boys ate em!
The duck commander boys swear blue wingd taste like a sewer pond, but here in North Texas I have never experienced such. So maybe the diet theory is true haha. Love both yalls channels 👍
Here in Alabama the gads don’t taste too good because they’re usually on the river eating milfoil. When I had a lease in Arkansas they tasted a whole lot better because their diet was rice and soybeans. But everything tastes better when it’s wrapped in bacon and jalapeños.
Cant eat waterfowl that fresh, ,if you were to purge the blood out,,itd be far better eating....Im a retired chef,,blood does not taste good. I geuss you can eat it....but youre not giving it ,its best chance. Cheers. Ps, how come youtubers only take other youtubers out? Why not some fan who spends some coin on patreon or something. That would be very special to your fans who got you here.

"How" Settin' on a log in a pin-oak flat, Ponderin' 'bout this, wonderin' 'bout that-- Why some ducks decoy--when again they won't-- And why we make good shots--when again we don't. Recallin' ol' times an' royal shoots, Wadin' deep mud with water-filled boots. Yankin' th' yawl 'ginst tide an' sea! Prairie dawns, an' ducks that hold The melt of onyx, beryl an' gold. Bacon, coffee an' buckwheat cakes Make a bellyful of what it takes. Lamplight an' blankets that fetch surcease, Woodsmoke an' dreams with a theme-song "Geese!" A pine squirrel's chirrup an' camp bird's hail To sleepy eyes an' ice on the pail. Yonder's some ducks--better give 'em a hoot With some feedin' talk throw'd in t' boot. I may miss this 'un--he's flying' fast-- But it won't be th' first miss, nor yet th' last. Th' good with the bad, an' th' lean with th' fat, Th' old general average of Life's like that. So draw a clean bead an' shoot on th' wing, There's more to huntin' than killin' a thing! Nash Buckingham, Blood Lines, 1938
I've never been able to tell much difference between gadwalls and any other puddle duck. I usually dry age my ducks for at least 10-15 days before I eat them, it makes a huge difference in the way they taste! That said fresh duck over an open fire is pretty dang good too. One thing is for sure, I'd rather eat a gadwall than a shoveler or a goldeneye any day!
This upsets me, I’m totally with Aaron naquin, grew up shooting mostly grey ducks in south Louisiana, pluck em and pot roast em I’ll take em anyday, most days over a mallard because they get tender more quickly, all ducks are good to eat, especially all puddle ducks, clean them right and prepare them right, might start shooting more limits instead of passing on “trash” ducks waiting for your precious mallards
Need ripples on water. Build yourself a pumper butt or have a dedicated puller on the jerk rig. Cant beat water movement. Hope u guys get some colder weather before the collab. If ducks have been into a shallow water eating minnows they take on a stronger flavor. Its like finishing a cow on corn vs grass
Funny just did the same mallard v gadwall and mallard v blue bill. Honestly mallards do taste better but the others are not far off. Favorite is Can, teal, woodie, mallard
Nonsense, Gaddis and Mallards taste the same. You'd never tell the difference. But (there's always a but) I'm here in Southern Ontario. I know that will make a difference.
