About their rapper, Moonbyul/Moonstar, she actually trained as a vocalist but the company said she had to be a rapper to debut so she worked so hard to be one. Now she is one of the best rappers.

Kim Do Hoon, the company's CEO and co-founder, is their main songwriter and was already successful in the K-Pop realm before creating Mamamoo. He said that he was looking for vocal talent primarily, not looks or dancing perfection, and then he said he picked the girls for Mamamoo because they were a) talented enough to be solo artists, and b) had fun. Calling them "beagles" was actually the company's idea. In re: being in sync... It's curious and funny just how in sync they can be. Once they were being interviewed for a radio show and the DJ said something interesting and all four of them said, "Ohhhh," in sync and _in harmony._ I laughed my ass off.

The reason why the members of Mamamoo can successfully stay in a group and not constantly try overpower each other is because their company allows each member to release solo albums and promotions in-between group projects. 🙌🏼 it’s something the korean pop industry has successfully done which I think benefits everyone.

I see that moomoos (Mamamoo fans) have answered your questions about their iconic intro and mentioned that they each have a solo career on the side. They're the only kpop group to have all members chart on Billboard as solo artists while the group was still active. Girl group legends 2NE1 did it after they disbanded. Their official debuts as soloists came in 2018-20 but they've done solo songs since their first album (Hwasa's I Do Me) and leader Solar released a series of 9 cover songs with MVs over several years in a series called Solar's Emotion, mostly gorgeous ballads. At the start of 2020 MMM took the first extended break since their debut in 2014 but being workaholics three of the members soon started working on solo projects while Wheein was recovering from an illness. Hwasa released an EP called Maria (her baptismal name) that imo was the best kpop album of 2020 with MVs for hit title track Maria and the stunningly beautiful song LMM (Lost My Mind). Moonbyul released an EP called Dark Side of the Moon with a groundbreaking gender neutral MV for the main single Eclipse. Solar released her solo debut song Spit It Out about her relentless passion to do what she wants. After Wheein recovered she started uploading fantastic song covers and dance videos on MMM's yt channel. Wheein is scheduled to release a solo project sometime soon. Edit - forgot to mention that Wheein also recorded two of the year's most beautiful OST songs for kdramas, With My Tears and Shine on You. They each did other solo things last year but those are the main highlights. :) Their versatility is one of their calling cards. They've done practically every pop genre you can think of and have one of the most diverse discographies I've ever heard. Great comment about how despite being each spectacularly talented nobody tries to outshine anyone else and how they perform as a unit. Along the same lines you also noticed how they check in with each other during songs, esp when they harmonize. Very much like an all-star jazz band. Mamamoo believes they were destined to be best friends even if they weren't singers or in a group together and they've done several songs on that theme. I think their bff chemistry fuels the magic they produce in live performances. Excellent comment about their vocal color palette. When you combine their unique timbres and the variety of vocal tools at their disposal with their bff synergy you end up with master weavers creating a songstory as a vocal tapestry in real time. Along the palette idea, one of their vocal masterpieces is called Paint Me, which is the theme song for a year long four album series called 4 Season 4 Color Mamamoo released between 2018-19. It's the most ambitious, complex project ever released by a girl group. There are a ton of great Mamamoo songs and recordings but as a vocal coach you're probably more interested in their live performances and luckily for all of us Mamamoo is even better live than they are on record. You usually can't react to tv show performances because of copyright issues but another great medley that you can react to is the Immortal Songs Medley, which was filmed during a 2017 concert. The vid was uploaded by a moomoo and is safe for reactors. You can also find videos filmed during their 2019 concerts titled 4 Seasons F/W and there's lots to watch - those concerts lasted between 4 - 5 hours and included a special 20 minute or so solo set by each member. You said something that i totally agree with: mamamoo does not outshine one another. Even though Moonbyul does not have many lines, she slays them and they're always memorable. Alot of kpop groups these days have that one person whos the face of the group (not the position). They outshine everyone and sometimes the other members are forgotten. But mamamoo isnt like that. Like you said they can be/are very successful soloists.

It's even more incredible to think that Hwasa and Wheein (the two on the right) just happened to be classmates and childhood friends. then they started going to auditions together because they wanted to be in a group together. We really have to thank their company RBW for forming them at the first place and not abandoning them since everyone actually doubted that they would be successful at all! Solar failed so many auditions and this company was her last go before she decided to give up, Moonbyul was a vocal but was kinda forced into a rapper with 0 experience, Hwasa was considered fat and ugly and people even petitioned her to get out of the group ; - ; BUT THEY PROVE THEMSELVES AND IS ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL AND RESPECTED GROUPS OUT THERE

It is a medley of the songs they sang from the show where they performed Delilah. (Fun fact: this show helped them became big in sk as they showed here how talented they are) It's basically a show where they cover songs from legends of s korea. They made this medley during their concert for their fans.

Fun Fact: Mamamoo is the first group their small company, RBW, ever produced. Their CEO, Kim Do-hoon, is a pretty big composer/songwriter in the industry and personally put them together. His idea was to make a kpop group unlike any other that focused more on performance/musicality rather than the visual/dance side of kpop which was probably the most prominent factor of creating groups back then. I believe he's said, that from his pool of trainees, he had picked out one member (a "backbone") and built around them in order to have a completely well-rounded group that filled out any "flaws" the others might have. Definitely why these four compliment each other so well despite being so distinct from one another. Oddly enough, they were actually supposed to debut with 5 members, but the 5th one left prior to debuting. Makes you wonder the musical dynamic that could've been since Mamamoo already feels so whole as a quartet.

I really appreciate the way you explain the technique and the analogy you used of having a pallet of tools to use but as a singer instead of a painter. It really makes sense as I find that their sound is more interesting since they can play around creatively because they have the skill! I really enjoy Mamamoo and their vocals compared to other groups but I couldn’t describe why since I have no background in singing. I just always thought they had such a distinct sound to them. Without exaggerating, I think this was the best reaction video I have seen of K-pop group. Just the way you could grasp so well mamamoo and their chemistry. I think what appeals me to mamamoo the most is how different they are from most kpop girl groups. Moonbyul’s solo career revolved around concepts and music most often performed by men, and it was incredible. Their production company takes care of them other than the fact that they are incredibly underrated in Western countries

It's funny that you said that some stars collided to give us Mamamoo because so many people didn't think that Mamamoo would work as a kpop group because they just didn't have the visuals (WHICH IS CRAZY COZ THEY ARE ALL GORGEOUS LET ALONE TALENTED) and didn't fit into the kpop mold, and their company was told to give up on them. But then they gathered a lot of recognition of the seniors in the Korean music industry, and they became known as the industry's girl group (usually favourite kpop girl groups are known as the "nation's" girl group). So yes, we're very lucky that they held on.

The "I said Mama mama moo" they sang is their introduction, they do it every single time they have to introduce themselves. A lot recommended their solo, I'm recommending it too and this is my list of recommendations: 1. Mamamoo - Destiny (Queendom version) 2. Hwasa - LMM (got goosebumps every time I listen to it) 3. Wheein - Goodbye (if you wanna hear what paradise sounds like) 4. Moonbyul - Absence (we never have enough of Moonbyul deep voice) 5. Solar - Speechless (It's a cover. Who's from Disney please, you need to hire her!) 6. Solar - It's been a long time (A punch of Solar's personality? Here you go!) I’d like to recommend their “I Love Too” music video which is actually their performance of it at their Moosical concert. Use this video (the one from the MAMAMOO channel) as it has English subtitles: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AGjvMOqxeR4.html It’s my favorite performance from them. Be ready with tissues as it’s pretty emotional, but you can hear their live vocals because you can hear Solar crying while trying to sing. After that one, I’d recommend their performance of “in my faded memories” on the Immortal Songs show. So much stage presence, it’s got dancing and vocals.

I personally recommend you to react to one of the videos of "Mamamoo randomly harmonizing with each other" (them slaying us with talent while playing around) "Mamamoo acappella queens" (the most serious one) "Mamamoo in sync, harmonies and impromptus" (I'd say this one is a bit of a balance between goofiness and professionality compared to the other two, and it's my personal favorite, but it's up to you which one you choose) for harmonies. All of these videos show their gorgeous harmonies plus a bit of group dynamics that may help you see why they're so in sync. If you think this can sound interesting, you can just pick wathever video seems most appropriate or interesting and react to it when you have time, I promise you won't regret it. They're basically a choir ^^
