Thanks for watching Mamamoo, they are from a super small agency that in the beginning couldn't even pay them for a choreographer so from the beginning the girls had to promote themselves in the streets with mini presentations and do their own choreographies.
Sounds like you're going to check out the video called Why Mamamoo is the Most Underrated Kpop Group, which is actually a terrific intro guide to the group and how they stand out from the crowd rather than an answer to the question posed by the title. Most people wouldn't say they're really underrated since they're considered to be the top female vocal group and they're very successful in their own way but they certainly don't have the global fame of the girl groups you mentioned and their album sales are a small fraction of the most popular groups or even rookie groups under the big agencies (who often have a small fraction of MMM's talent imo). MMM albums typically sell around 100K whereas other groups' albums sell in the milliions. Mamamoo seems to be taken for granted by kpop fans. I'd call them underappreciated rather than underrated. Karla was correct about the Motown vibe. Mr Ambiguous was written by RBW's co-CEO Kim Dohoon for Quincy Jones and the girls performed it for Quincy when he was in Seoul for a concert while they were still trainees and didn't even have a name for their group yet. The original title of the song was Mamamoo. QJ decided not to use the song so it was partially re-written, re-titled Mr Ememoho (sounds like Mamamoo), given to them as their debut track, and the group's name became Mamamoo. The credits in the MV are all fake and the people who appear are singers and celebs making cameos as a favor to Kim Dohoon (a legendary kpop songwriter) to bring attention to Mamamoo as the first group to debut under RBW, which was a tiny startup agency that lacked the staff, financial resources and clout to promote them in the way new groups under the big 3 agencies would be. The "making of" concept for the MV was a perfect setup for the prank pulled by "producer" Baek Ji Young, a famous ballad singer who is highly respected in the industry. Obviously the girls had been told that Baek Ji Young was there to help them with tips and feedback so her harsh criticism landed like a ton of bricks and the fact that the fate of RBW and their dreams of making it as singers were at stake made it even more devastating. On one hand the prank was cruel and unusual punishment but on the other hand who does that, esp in their debut MV? It was the first of about a zillion Only Mamamoo moments. My favorite MMM song is Paint Me, which is one of their main vocal masterpieces. Paint Me is the theme song for their epic four album series 4 Season 4 Color, the most complex and ambitious project ever done by a girl group.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS : • "INTRODUCING MAMAMOO! (Part 1: Solar & Moonbyul)" AND "INTRODUCING MAMAMOO! (Part 2: Wheein & Hwasa)" by Purple Hawke • Guides by MOO YT : "a quick introduction guide to mamamoo" "The MAMAMOO Introduction Guide of 2022 (Part 1: Members)" "The MAMAMOO Introduction Guide of 2022 (Part 2: Group)"
Sadly, as amazing as this song is, when it first came out, it didn't make any waves at all other than negative ones about how different they were. They were the first idol group in the newly created RBW so their company couldn't help much with promotion. The girls really worked hard, even busking on the streets to promote themselves. However, they remained mostly unknown for the first several months after debut and even considered disbanding if their next song wouldn't click. Fortunately, their next song was a hit and they were able to continue on as Mamamoo. I think the main reason they're so underrated is because they're from a small company. There was no big gimmicky promotion or meteoric rise in fame. And they didn't even touch on international waters until much later in their career. Their growth was slow but steady. But I personally think this was a blessing in disguise as it gave them a more organic and well-rounded growth as artists and very loyal fans. Another reason is maybe because Mamamoo doesn't quite fall under the genre of kpop. They're artists rather than idols and some people just prefer the latter.
Mamamoo are the best kpop girl group and they are under appreciated. Unfortunately as a Moomoo each member has focused on their solo careers over the last two years and I feel like they will announce their disbandment on their 10 year anniversary coming up in June. 😥 I hope I'm wrong. 🙏
Why are you saying such negative things? Mamamoo are building a legend of their own, and it’s stupid to say they they will announce their disbandment on their 10 year anniversary! Frankly, you pissed me off! Did you forget the message at the end of the last concerts? 2025 will be the year of Mamamoo globally, its a certainty!
¡Sobre todo al único y original Mamamoo, cuando exploraban y fusionaban su música con gran diversidad de estilos de alta calidad: desde ragtime, jazz , algo de blues, hasta funk y soul, pasando por todos lo que hubo en medio de todo eso.
Love Mamamoo! Four superstars collectively as Mamamoo and individually as each member has their own very successful solo career. For a real treat please react to their 2 Pre-Debut videos DON'T BE HAPPY and PEPPERMINT CHOCOLATE. Looking forward to many more of your reactions, especially to Mamamoo.
Actually, it was a prank when they were stopped during the MV. Here is a link to the full prank w/subs ENG SUB MAMAMOO StarPlayerSecretCamera with Baek Ji Young (Mr. Ambiguious MV) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C8_zzYRCS2Q.htmlsi=B-UTOXizR9Wgn90T Oh, and Baek Ji Young (the woman who did the prank) wasn't one of their managers, she is a senior in the industry (she debuted in 99) and well respected. Which is why what she was saying upset them so much. The video I linked shows not only what you see in the MV, but what happened after and she compliments them so much, to the point she even asks how long their contracts are? (hinting that she would want to take them under her wing)
i think yall should check out nmixx its live performances and stage practices they are part of the few groups recently that can do fully live performances with no back track
