Moonbyuls voice made me cry. The melody was simple but I agree with you. "Nothing but their voices" and they are more than amazing, especially MoonSTARs. I read somewhere that she was not really happy with her role as "the girl who has only rap parts". I don't know if it's true but she should do what she likes, not what other people force her to do. Their management is sometimes not the best (think about some scandals and you will know what I mean) but they have the freedom for almost everything and this is the reason why I like RBW, no matter what scandals their CEO created in the past. And so it's easy to forgive them to decide standing on the piano. It's not ok for e specific type of people and I accept that people are mourning about but it's a very very small case in my honest opinion and it's not important for this song. Paint Me is a masterpiece. Bless you Mamamoo (oh this could be a rally cry (is this the right term? My english is so-so))
Opinion: Think this single would work well with a Vocalists React video. (BTW I love your videos. The beautiful setting blends well with the beautiful song.) I think it's Chorse, V1, Chorus, Post-Chorus, V3, Chorus, Post-Chorus, Bridge/Outro I love the song's beauty, simplicity, and elegance. Also BYULIEEE. The vocal trainers once said that there wasn't anything that really stood out when she sang, but her rapping was really flavorful. I think "Paint Me" proves that wrong. Her vocals are really calm and sincere, which is what I love about her. And though she only gets about 20 secs of singing, I love that (like always) she made those seconds count. I have to agree that I love the sound of the voices in the lower register (those I'm biased as an alto/contralto singer) and really appreciate their vocal quality as a group.
The first thing I thought when I saw Moon standing on the piano this at 0-dark thirty this morning was "Umu and the gang are going to be flinching in horror!"
This is more of an equivalent to "I miss you", similar ballad feels, but the lyrics are not as sad and the dynamics of the instrument is also less in this song(which give this song a more calm vibe). Also because "I miss you" is from their last full album, I really hope they will be bring us a full length album. And if my predictions are correct, there should be one more hype song release being the official comeback (like 1cm) which will be "Sleep in the car", the hip hop / trap song they performed on moosical and picnic!
Umu -> LYRICS, LYRICS, LYRICS! I was lukewarm on first listen, but then a subtitled version appeared and I listened and read immediately. SHOOK. Most beautiful poetic love song.
Yes 1theK had subtitles but the original notification minutes after first publication was from the official MAMAMOO channel and that had no subtitles that I could see.
Correct but... "[Notice] 1theK RU-vid is also an official channel for the MV, and music shows will count the views from this channel too." ...is the important part for me ;-)
It's a pre-release, so I think this is more of a showcase of where they want to take their future music. Can't wait to see what the full package of this Mamamoo is going to be!
Oh my gosh yeees slay me. I got emotional while I was reading the lyrics and listening to the song and then I heard it was a pre release......i can't right now I'm speechless idk how to react😭. They're so great I luv them😭
It feels like a pre-chorus then a refrain rather than a main chorus and a bridge. At the end of the song (galaxy bg), it was more of an outro than a bridge. It's weird, I had a hard time figuring it out too. The chords are powerful and simple beats were used. Notice how the harmonies were kept to a minimum and focused on the individual voices of the vocalists. I love it because it gives much dimension to the simple background music. Overall, the song is highly emotional (I cried after listening to it twice then again after looking up the translation), a powerful ballad from MAMAMOO and a sign of things to come. I appreciate your technical review and Im glad to have stumbled upon it! Keep doing more of these!
Good job for the reaction/review during your vacation. This song is really adding some colors in Mamamoo's style. They have lots of songs that can be played with some adlibs. This total ballad song is something new for me. This song amplifies their strength in vocal skill. Oh, I love Mamamoo and this song starts my new year! Happy new year, y'all Mamamoo 4 with the sun!!!
Guys, check out more of Moonbyul's stuff on their channel! She has a beautiful singing voice and we should let their company know how much we appreciate it!
This is a nice song. Quiet different from what Mamamoo has done before so far. It is a very simple but decent chorus develop into full length song with each of them express it in their prefer vocal range except moonbyul of course. I wish there are more of Moonbyul in this simple song since Mamamoo has been a bit wasted their good rapper as they have 3 wonderful vocal. To be honest, i kind of feel that moonbyul kind of stand out among the other 3 vocal repeat in the song in similar approach. That make moonbyul kind of a highlight of the song when other 3 doing similar thing. The chorus and verse keep repeat throughout the song that almost make it a bit dull for us non korean speaker not realising that they are describing each of their representive color in the lyric. In deed the entry start from nowhere and whole exit into thin air after the chorus make the melody hook up in the mind for awhile. However i found the song is not much emotionally related anyhow. But i wouldn't mind the this song is repeated in a nonstop cycle as i couldn't tell the head and tail of the song when chorus is everywhere. May be this song can be use in a cafe playing in a nonstop cycle would be great. Otherwise, i can't find any occassion this song can fit in. How you guys think?
I'm really glad the structure you heard was pretty much the same as the one I heard. I really really wish they didn't end on the bridge and I would've liked some kind of pre-chorus as well. The song is only 3:40, they could've easily added something after the bridge; if you think of other songs of this type they are virtually all over 4 minutes long if not 4 and a half minutes because the tempo is so slow.
thanks for the review umu. i always enjoy your more technical analysis of a song. i'm always learning from it, and a song becomes all the more enjoyable because of it it. this is no different. see you again for the comeback (and other things in between)
Yes...finally MAMA UMU the MOOMOO reaction...loved it like always, and wow thanks for the very in deep analysis...I learn something new every time thanks to you
I saw a similar comment to this but there is another channel named "Reactto Kent" and they are uploading all your videos and reactions. Just wanted to let you know too.
YOUR DOG IS SO CUTE!! I love MM so much. Their vocals are no joke. The whole color thing was super cool. I'm always looking forward to your reactions. Also, could you check out The Rose? Not sure if you've heard of them or not but their song "Sorry" has been stuck in my head for the past month. And I think you'd enjoy it!
Well... This is the first time I hear this group. And this may be the first time I honestly love a girl K-pop group. I also hate people stepping on pianos or damaging instruments for no reason, and I'm not a musician. It's just bad. As always, I really appreciate your commentary.
i felt that the acoustic strings in the background were to tie the piano and their voices together, and there was also a bit of electric guitar to make the song progressively emotional and spike it up a bit i feel!
Give it to Mamamoo for doing a non conventional song layout. I also really dig the change from 3 vocalists and a rapper to 4 vocalists. In essence all of them can both sing and rap so I'm really curious to what the future will bring from them.
I looked up the lyrics to the song, and I can sense that the song the is telling a story. (Does that make sense?) Like the Chorus is so vibrant and loud(?) while the verses are soft and, sometimes, start with a color. (ie White, Yellow, Blue, & Red) And each color is telling a story about the stages of love. But the chorus tells us, even through the stages, how their feeling of love is constant?? Okay that was random theory I put out there. But the song was beautiful to listen to. Especially love Hwasa and WheeIn's harmonization.
I really wait for your reaction since the MV came out Umu, I think you should check the 1thek version with the subtitle of lyrics. It would be awesome, your reaction will be completed. P.S. I want other classical musicians react to this
AND HOW ABOUT MOONBYUL'S VOICE THE MOST AWAITED DEBUT/COMEBACK OF THE CENTURY WHAT DO YOU THINK OF HER VOICE WHY DIDN'T YOU TALK ABOUT HER SINGING HUHUHUHUHU
>>>> Hey Umu, I don't know if you know this but a channel called "Reactto Kent" has been reuploading all of your videos as their own, and have your channel listed as a related channel on their home page.
Lol you can't rly like Aze Gag if you're not Korean bc there are sooo many puns in it you wouldn't understand if you are not basically fluent in Korean xD
I disagree, because I really like it and I'm not fluent in Korean. I do agree that you can't fully appreciate it unless you are fluent in Korean though. Also, you have to really like those kinds of puns, which I also do :)
I liked the song when it first came out, and then loved it when I learned Korean. (Still noob but I understand enough to appreciate that song more) For non Korean speakers it's worth checking out Talk to Me in Korean's video on Aze Gag
I wonder if Umu will just go back to this song after the 4S project and think it's more of an leading song than a standalone (even if it passes for one)
I guess it depends on whether or not Solar or Hwasa was the one lying on my piano... Also, I feel like the "chorus" is almost like two "pre-chorus" sections together, acting as the chorus. Still great, though.
it's not like they damage the piano though. And probably it's the management's idea. 🙂 P.s. Umu your awesome.👍 and you should probably watch their vids with subtitle so that your reaction can be a full package one😍
I really wish I liked the part you were referring to as the prechorus or part 1 of the chorus, it just hits me my ears too hard and doesn’t flow as much as I’d hope, so instead of appreciating their crazy awesome vocals in that spot I find myself turning down the volume there 😭 very happy that mamamoo is trying out a more serious theme, since they really wanted to but I’m not getting into this song as much as I had hoped
I think how they designed the song fits perfectly with the lyrics and its meaning, it hits you hard and suddenly then leave you hanging (as the story still goes on) turn on the cc in the 1thek channel if you haven't already.
this is a super late comment, but i play the piano and im strangely not bothered by it.. i also race cars, and whenever we win a race.. its pretty common for the driver too stand on the car and the guys who build or work on it aren't bothered as well. i guess thats just me. ;)
Umu I know you're upset about the piano but there is a good reason why... The song is actually about love not for a lover but for music so in a way they are singing about/for the piano therefore being the object of their love and the song they're interacting with it: touching it, standing on it...
I love the song but I am a little upset that Moonbyul only had like two lines I kinda felt like she would have gotten more lines if she rapped but I love her singing voice it is so pleasant. No hate just my opinion hope to see her sing more in their future songs.
