MAME San Francisco Rush: The Rock (60fps hack) Track 4 - Logitech G27 wheel

This was played on a custom version of MAME 0.199 that was hacked to allow San Francisco Rush and San Francisco Rush The Rock to run above 30fps. The main CPU (r5000) was also overclocked (from 200mhz to 600mhz in this video) to help increase frame rates.
The average frame rate is somewhere between 40-60, but often times its running at a solid 60fps. In the default MAME, the frame rates top out at 30fps and often go as low as 15fps for extended periods. The frame rate increase should be obvious here.
Played on an i7 8086k with a Logitech G27 wheel. Recorded with fraps.

If this can be done with San Francisco Rush in general, I have a good feeling it can be done with all MAME Seattle C and other 3D titles / drivers.

I tried playing Rush on MAME and the only problems I have trying to get this game to start is C31boot.bin isn’t found even though I created a separate file for Rush The Rock with the CHD but still wouldn’t work.

Theres a small .zip file and then the CHD file, you need them both. Make sure they are up to date also.

Even though this is cool, I prefer to use the standard MAME as I like the original arcade framerate better.

Hi i have used your hacked mame version and its fantastic. I was wondering can it be done on Virtua Racing and Outrunners ? These games do not run on 60 fps in Mame esoecially on 60 hz lcds. They were designed to run on Medium resolution Arcade monitors such as Nanao 26. It would be challenge to get these games running at Solid 60 fps if we can tamper with refresh screen rate source code. However, i ve triee your version on Virtua racing but unfortunatly this would cause the video to get broken and messed up.

Maybe I could take a look at them when I have time, I've been working on another project and haven't even played Rush since making this video lol. There's a couple other tweaks I want to make, if Rush or Rush the Rock are loaded I want the screen refresh rate to automatically be 60hz (or 120hz in the config menu). Also there's some performance issues in attract mode (due to the overclocking) that I think can be fixed, but yeah maybe I can take a look at those other games too.

@@Bigtymer781 Yup it would be a challenge and an accomplishment tweaking the Refresh values of both Vracing and outrunners to render 60 fps solid. The Vr has been released on Nintendo switch today same as Mame but with 60fps gameplay.

@@TheSonic497 The closest Atari came to a Rush 2 was Rush 2049 in 1999. Both games regardless are legends!

@@TBONE_2004 Not really, considering the only track from Rush 2 to be in 2049 was the Alcatraz track, which wasn't even in the console versions of the game.

Can you share your controller config? I cant manage to make my G27 work with Rush. Cant map Brake and Throttle. And now I really want to play it with FFB. Thanks for sharing!

@@Bigtymer781Yes. I figured out that I need to press the pedal two times. On the first it shows as "combined pedal" , on the consecutive presses it shows at pedal negative and pedal positive. I love this game. Some years ago I released the patched pc version on the internet. But playing in mame is so much better.

Which one do you want to try first? I have a few different versions, with the main CPU running @400mhz, @600mhz, and @1000mhz. The higher the overclock the more demanding it is on your PC, but the higher the frame rates are on average. The 600mhz version might be a good place to start (it's what I used in the video), since youre on an i7. There might be a small hiccup when it first goes into attract mode, but during an actual race the emulation speed is locked on 100% (for me). Even @1000mhz it's locked on 100% during the actual race (for me).

The 1000mhz would be even more jittery, want to try 400mhz? You should press f11 so you could see the emulation speed when playing.
