Happy Saturday Everyone! **UPDATE** The Alexa functionality has not YET been released to the public, but after a few weeks of it running on a schedule I've never needed to even look at the mower, it just does its thing! If you want one then there's a link below 😊 As a Mammotion affiliate I will earn commission at no charge to you :) GLOBAL LINK: uk.mammotion.com/?ref=8bwbya4h
Glad you confirmed that as I haven't been able to link mine to Alexa. Also can't find the pattern writing in the lawn that is surpose to be available. Hope they release this soon as want to wish my wife a happy birthday in the lawn😊
Thought I'd drop back in here after a few days of using this mower, as I bought a Luba 2 3000 after seeing this review video... What an amazing bit of kit! My lawns have never looked better. As it cuts with what are effectively razor blades, the consistency of the cutting is so much better than any of my previous mowers. I watched lots of other review videos after this one (as any sensible person would for something this pricey). None of the videos really do justice to the end result of the grass, even after just a few days. The accuracy of the RTK positioning is very impressive. It really does mow to exactly where you set it. The main reason I waited before getting a robot mower are all the slopes, bumps & holes in my lawns. This thing does a far better job of them than I ever did with a self-propelled petrol or electric mower. It also handles small hogweed & stinging nettle shoots with no issues. The machine says my moving areas total 651 sq meters, which used to take me 3+ hours every week due to the shape and terrain. Now I can spend 5 minutes hosing the robot down & do something else with my time. I only wish I'd had one 10 years ago when I moved in. So much wasted mowing time!! It's not a perfect machine & I do have some gripes but nothing major. The software is pretty poor & could use some work, despite having lots of useful options. It gets VERY clogged up when the grass is wet, which is a bit of pain but not the end of the world. It's quick to clean the underside with a hose or even just a watering can. Self-driving it around the perimeter is bit of a painful experience; it's quite unresponsive & laggy to control but as you will only rarely need to set or adjust that part, it's just a case of grin & bare it for a while... Overall, echoing what I've seen in comments here and elsewhere; a great machine & I'm very glad I bought it! Obviously it's not cheap, but if you can afford it & have a large lawn I'd say it's a no-brainer. If anyone in the UK is wondering about delivery times, I ordered on Saturday & it arrived Wednesday. (disclaimer for the nay-sayers: I bought the mower myself, I don't know Paul & am not affiliated in any way with Mammotion)
Mine arrived 2 weeks ago. This is one of the best pieces of kit I have ever bought. This is a must if you have a large garden. Easy to set up, though you do need to get power to the RTK and charging station. No problems, though you do have to tweek the no go zones. Don't take it too close to the things you want to avoid. It gives an almost perfect cut. Easy to keep clean, just hose it down but no pressure washing. Though it is a little expensive it is well worth the money if you can afford one. Out of all the gadgets I own, this will save me more time than any of them. I have the Luba 2 5000 AWD. Can't recommend this enough. Go get one.
I’m always really glad to hear from someone who has had one for a while when I do a review like this. I’ve only had it running a few weeks, but I can see it’s gonna be a god send
I was about to spend a similar amount on a ride on mower as it takes 2 hours to do my lawns, but am now considering this as an alternative so it’s good to hear from an actual purchaser, thanks.
@@HiruS22 I was the same, thinking of getting a sit on mower, but after doing my research, I decided on the Luba 5000. This has so far been great. Things to look out for. Make sure the RTK can have good line of sight to the satelites. Don't put near to the house or trees, or if you do, place on the roof. I've read a few people placing in the loft with success, but I was worried about this, as lofts can get very hot in the summer and not sure if this might affect the performance or longevity of it. Just read the instruction, unlike Paul😆 and you will have this cutting a near perfect lawn. Plus with a sit on you still need to do the cutting. Apart from cleaning and instructioning the app, there is almost no work for the user. As I said, it's the best bit of kit I have bought and it has the approval of the wife, so it must be good🤣
I bought the 1000 model initially. The area coverage prediction is the only thing I have an issue with. My lawn is 220sqm and it couldn't quite complete that without a recharge. Although the customer service was helpful it appears that the area claimed is very optimistic. Whilst it doesn't matter that it takes longer to complete by including a recharge, I decided to upgrade to the 3000 model. They accepted a return and refund with a free return using FedEx so no complaints with customer service. If they had been a little more realistic about the coverage capability to each model I would have gone for the 3000 model straightaway. Remember to keep the packaging as it is very necessary should you need to return it. Overall a brilliant product. My lawn has never looked better.
These devices look fantastic. I have been trying to decide how to tell my wife I bought one (well, not yet...going through various scenarios). Seriously, these look awesome. If you pay for someone to cut your lawn where I live, prices are between $50-$75. My lawn needs to be cut about 35 times a year - so it would not take more than a year or two to cover costs. See - a scenario to explain why it was ok to buy this!
The real benefit is that the lawn will never 'need' cutting as it will be maintained at the perfect length. It will always look perfect - like your wife (feel free to use this rationale when explaining the outlay to your wife).
I've had a Luba 1 - 5000 for two years. LOVE IT! There is a learning curve, however, and the manual, to put it politely, sucks! Lots of information available online, though! BTW, if you set it up right, it mulches the clippings and, as you said, that's good for lawn health. It mows several acres for me out in the country. Rough terrain. Succeeds where other brands failed! I cannot, however, see the point of upgrading to a Luba 2.
Mine’s only about 1/2 acre combined, how long does it take to do yours? Do you have it do different sections on different days or set it going and let it keep recharging til it’s finished?
I presently have four sections that I mow, and am going to add one, possibly two more. I mow mine as the muse moves me and let it recharge as it sees fit. We live rurally, so there is no pressure to keep up with neighbors. I've got some very rough and occasionally muddy terrain as well. Each section is a different size so they take varying amounts of time. I have my speed set to 1. Longest takes over four hours. I mow a few acres total and use a WiFi repeater. Wish LUBA would send me a "Two" to evaluate on this rough terrain and with this tree cover but that isn't going to happen! I and our son, who lives in suburbia, were among the first to purchase commercially so we've been through all of the teething, instruction and customer service problems. In the end, it has been worth it. Have had other robot mowers and this beats them all!
What, you didn't throw a few pounds of rocks into your yard to see if it can handle it? You have truly come a long way from feeding sugar to a vaccum. Thanks for the review Paul!
@@paulhibbert Hmmm, now I'm wondering how it does on exposed tree roots and pine cones ... Dull blades I don't mind. I can sharpen those or replace them. I'd hate to get something this expensive and have it immolate itself on the first day of mowing. One nice thing about using a tractor finish mower deck and a 25 HP ZTR is I don't pick up pine cones or branches smaller than my thumb. I just mulch 'em when I mow over 'em. I have a big yard and lots of trees.
I was wondering (worrying about) the same. It seems the only difference between the 1000, 3000, 5000, and 10000 models is the battery size -- but with a WHOPPING (insane!) additional cost as they go up in capacity. So I'm worried that, when battery replacement time comes around, the battery cost may be half of the original purchase price. Replacement batteries aren't currently listed on the Mammotion website.
I've been waiting for a robot mower without guideline requirements, that can cover multiple separate lawn sections & navigate to them on its own, as well as being able to handle my slopey, moss-ridden, lumpy lawns... If the reviews and info I've seen are to be believed, this is the one. Ordered! Thanks for the great review, hope the referral link worked.
Had the mk1 version of the Luba 5000 for almost a year. Great product. Work well in our complex garden. One thing Paul, the 5000 can have more zones (10) than the 3000/1000 which is an advantage to me. New model adds the camera sensor
My garden has lawn areas separated by a paved area that is higher than the lawn. Can it handle going up much of a step to get up over paving for example?
Good question, my garden doesn’t really have anything like that, but, it does clamber into its base station pretty well considering the epic fail of an installation I gave it 😂 Have a look on their website, I would hope they have listed a maximum height that it can get over before its bumper catches
I have the same setup with four lawns separated by borders and a paving slab pathway of different heights. Love the robot idea with good battery operational use with auto charging in-between. However, it's a bit too high a price to pay. I'll stay with my petrol mower for now.
Great review. Can it cross a path( it probably needs to turn off the blades to not damage them), and mow both sides of a lawn with a path going down the middle if it, or is it limited to just one zone? If you have two lawns both sides of your house..can it use the paths to go around the house and do both, or do I need three of them? I can pay a bloke to do this in an hour, 200 odd times, (so 10 times a year for 20 years)for the price of just one of those things, and I would be keeping him in work.
Lawn mowing is just the tiniest part of lawn maintenance. To have a decent lawn, I have to scarify twice a year, power rake twice a year, top seed, fertilise, kill and remove moss, aeriate, add compost, roller. I have to somehow get rid of all this mountain of garden waste as not to create a strangling thatch layer (eveyone needs to be on top of their thatch) when done.. mowing the lawn is the enjoyable easy part. You get to see what's what with yiur lawn for a start. Just think this machine is utterly pointless.
Oh right, you’re wrong. 🤣 I don’t have time for all that, it just runs once a week for me and the tiny amount of clippings from a weeks growth just feed the lawn.
My parents got me the luba 2 5000 awd and i love it. My neighbors hate me. I see them working on their lawns through my windows and can see the jealousy with my perfectly mowed lawn
Really hoping that Mammotion will provide a REST API for this ASAP. I have a fenced-in back yard and would like to be able to be control an automatic gate opener so that the Luba 2 can pass through to the front yard. I could perhaps implement it with proximity sensors for the Luba, but ideally, I'd be able to get a signal from the Luba as it's starting a scheduled job. Even better would be the capability to query its current position. Alternatively, I'd like to be able to start it myself from my home automation (and also open the gate). I'd also want a trigger for when it was completed so that I could automatically close the gate again.
Where’s the dog poo test and how does it deal with a pile of sugar?…. Obviously would need to do a clear check before allowing it to run (so a bit less set and forget there).
@@paulhibbert Being a two dog homeowner and 1-year Luba owner... I can tell you, Luba doesn't slash the turds to bits. Luba is heavy... it squashes those turds flat on the grass!
Does the gps style navigation depend on aerial photos? The Google maps satellite image of my house shows a garden (and crucially lawn) layout that I changed substantially in 2011, so obviously hasn’t been updated for at least 13 years!
No, you set the boundary (or boundaries if you have more than one zone) by manually driving around the perimeter using a phone app. The GPS is then used to keep it within the boundary when in operation. If you change the layout of your garden you would need to remap with the phone although I have seen minor alterations to the boundary of existing maps within the app.
How often will the battery need to be replaced, how much do the consumables cost per mowing season, how long will it last before it needs to be discarded?
A nice machine, however I'd say prohibitively expensive, and I'll buy anything! Chose the Segway iseries instead and it's excellent, and at the price I could buy 3
"Quick! Bring in the bifocals! Coming soon to eye wear near you!" This was brought to you by Mysto. Yes, he is directly watching your future. "Don't hop upstairs tonight. Bad things will happen. So says Mysto!" Mower needs Cylon eye. Yes, but can you program it to cut words into the lawn? Dueling mowers? Quick call Denis Weaver! Stephen King is acceptable as a substitute. Thank you Paul.
Looks better than most robotic mowers I've seen so far. I bought one that uses a boundary wire like those invisible fences that work with dog collars, and I'm constantly repairing the wire when rodents chew through it.
Lovely mower. Like the idea that you can set it to more at whatever time of the day. Just a shame that the price is so expensive. Good piece of tech though.
Have thought about robot mowers before but they’re too expensive and you have to add the cost of an electrician installing a waterproof plug socket in the garden. Maybe if they create one with a solar panel and wind turbine in the house for it I’d reconsider but even before you mentioned the price I knew it was “No”. How did you get power to that bit of the garden and was it legal?
I need one that can negotiate the steps in my split level rear lawn and also guide itself down the side of the house to the front lawn opening and closing the side gate and hopping over the front lawn border wall 😂
I would assume the 1000, 3000 and 5000 have different size batteries. But they say they all weigh 29Kg, which is a bit odd. I assume that you can just use the smaller one and cut the grass on different days even if you have a large garden. But it's well over a grand more expensive than a really good Japanese petrol lawnmower that gives you a reasonable workout whilst enjoying the outdoors.
You’re right, that is a bit weird! I hadn’t thought of that, the larger battery capacity ought to make it heavier 🤔 As for whether it’s worth it, it really depends on your priorities and your lawn size. I’ve seen another commenter saying they have to spend 2 hours a week on a ride on mower every week during the spring and summer, In guessing it’s worth it to him 😂 Personally I was worried when I moved here that I wouldn’t find time to keep the lovely lawn looking lovely. I no longer have that worry. 😊
@@paulhibbert I was thinking about it more. I'd get it if I was incapacitated. But while I can walk, I'll keep to the petrol mower. Think of that first few mows of the year too, when the grass is not only a bit long, but there is some debris on the grass. For my lawn, it takes a week or two to get it looking good in the spring, then I'd be happy letting the mulching mower out on it's own.
Does anyone happen to know if the satellite jobby on top of the pole has to have visibility of the mower at all times. My grass goes around the house and it would be impossible have line of site between the mower and the base station. Thanks.
I believe not. I think it goes in and out of range quite happily as long as it primarily has sight of the sky. Worth double checking on the website before you buy 👍🏻
My grass also goes all around my my house. I have the older Luba (Model 5000) and the RTK does not have to have line of sight with the Luba. I keep the RTK at the back of my house and not very high... and Luba had no issues mowing the front yard grass of my house.
@@paulhibbert i like, that you run it at night. But its important the viewers keep that in mind to. So sorry to be a bit rude, but it's about the message.
Leave your back door open and let them come inside for a biscuit to be safe from the mower. By far, the funiest and most charming thing that happened while I was stationed at Mildenhall RAF, was having these little guys walking in and snuffing around the kitchen and living room looking for a cookie.
Great review Paul! I can vouch for Luba having had one since last year, they're awesome!! I think there's a few other differences between the versions, like the number of zones you can have, so one thing to watch out for. I also just did a video with a few maintenance tips also - excuse my heavily modded David Mowie design!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NY21pgvmgF8.html
Love your videos. This is a smart good product. I feel sooner than we can imagine .. A Teslabot will be doing these jobs with ordinary mowers and tools .. Imagine Teslabots doing the DIY for installing these smart devices ..as C3PO said how perverse ! I'm betting within ten years.
Wait, are there people out there that don't just mulch the grass into the lawn? What kind of ignorant monster removes the grass clippings from the lawn?
Your little helper is going to have a lonely life hiding in his house most days because of rain, I think you should pack him back up and send him to me in Australia, where he can get a workout 🤣🤣
@@paulhibbert I can hear your little helper shaking in his little house, scared someone is going to pull his butt plug out, abduct him and send him on a one way trip to that far away land full of convicts 😂😂
I’m sorry mate, but that is the most ridiculous nonsense I’ve ever heard. A sofa is just some material and foam over a metal frame, they should cost £10 by your logic. This is a robot, filled with complicated METAL components not plastic, it’s filled with sensors, computers, motors, gyroscopes, radios, gps, cameras. It’s not a remote control car for crying out loud
@@paulhibbert I bet if you crack it open there is a lump of cast concrete inside it to give it HEFT for all that money. 😁 Flight board out of a drone could handle the proximity and GPS for £20.
Its nice but not worth the price if you have a regular garden. Maybe if you have a very large one, but even there I doubt it. 5000 Canadian roupies is crazy ! Thats about 10 years of paying a guy to mow your lawn !
There’s nothing wrong with the review. I’d argue there is nothing wrong with the product either, not everything is going to be personally of value to you dude, as hard as I might try to make everything relevant to everyone 🤷🏻♂️
Lawns were created as a way to show your wealth. Not only could you afford to have non productive land, but you could afford staff to cut the grass. This is the latest evolution of this display.
Never buy a lawnmower that looks like an RC car. My neighbour did this, spent a fortune and it never goes a week without going wrong and forgetting the job it was literally made to do. Me and my Husqvarna laugh at him through the hedge. He has spent 3 times what my Husqvarna cost, half of it on having to bringing an engineer to his garden to perform firmware upgrades. They even made him pay to have the boundary wire replaced, because they said it was not providing a strong enough signal. He is balls deep in pride because she showed off about it being better than mine, yet my lawn has looked perfect in the 3 years I’ve had it for, and his looks like he let a heard of cows chew it for 20 mins a day.
I think your channel is useless for someone who is looking for legitimate review as most of the products featured in your Channel are sent by the manufacturer hence your review is not honest
What a complete load of bollocks. There’s an entire “what’s wrong with it” section at the end of EVERY video. Only a month or so ago I reviewed a robovac and showed it eating dog turds, bumping into things, and mopping carpets, and I set that section to clown music. I’m sorry, but your comment REALLY annoys me, I’ve lost out on sponsorship because I’m so honest.
Sorry to annoy you, but thats just what I think and the fact that you went back to à video posted over a month ago were you have criticised a product meanwhile you have a lot of videos in between of (what I think are shitty products) and you are praising them. I think us as viewer and smart home hobbyists deserve more honest reviews, don't get me wrong I love your videos but I get disappointed whenever I see you recommending something that's not worth it
Im 5 years now into iwning and using a robot mower. 150sqm, so not massive by intrernational standards. This video, Linis's one etc..ues RTK is great but a perimeter wire isnt such a hassle to be honest. So what do all these videos get wrong? Weight. Mines around 8kg. It can mow in the rain, it mows all through winter (not kidding...i just set it to twice a week instead of everyday). Less weight= less muddy tracks! I javent mowed since sep2019 myself. Lawn always looks fantastic. Every one of these videos shows some long grass that gets half chomped/cut. It looks rubbish like that. It doesnt mow..it just trims the tops...thats how it works. Cut that days growth back to your setting, repeat tomorrow. If youre going to send itnout once a week, then rather just return it for a refund. If yiure going to send it out everyday, in e.g. London, then youre going to make mud if its heavy.
Mr Hibbert, I must complain....Is there EVER a chance that you will make a boring NOT funny video? You need to tone it down on the laughter inducing segments! My Doctor is getting tired of constantly repairing my funny bone... Thank you
Good video, but i would suspect a vey huge majority of your viewers, could afford to purchase one of these , so i question who you are preaching to on this one. I know you earn you living do these videos, to grow you channel you need to identify your audience and do videos accordingly
Ah, yes, from the maker Arkwrights Electronics Inc; introducing the m-m-mama-motion m-mam-mer-mer-mer-mower, available from all good corner sh-sh-sher-sher-shops!
I was at a hotel in Berlin this summer for a night, and the next morning when I came down to my car at the parking lot, one of these mowers was jammed under my car. It was actually quite difficult to remove as it was jammed pretty tight! I told it firmly to behave and drove of, but still have a small memory from it on my car bumper...
This looks pretty cool, it reminds me of the smart mapping feature in smart vacuums and mops. I unfortunately don't meet the requirement's of ''having a garden'' so I'll probably never end up using this product.. Alexa support is crazy though! Happy Saturday Paul!
