‪@mammut‬ is releasing a new line of ropes that increase cut resistance by adding an internal sheath made of aramid (aka Kevlar) between the core and the outer sheath. They'll be available in 8.0mm double ropes or 9.5mm single rope.

@WeighMyRack So, between this and the Edelrid protect, which do you recommend for single rope.

Just missing the sweetspot. I am currently looking for a 8.7 - 9.2 triple rated rope. I really prefer to climb with two triple rated ropes when climbing trad multipitch. Just feels better knowing that even if something happens to one of the rope, the other one is still good. But 9.5 is just a tad too bulky. This innovation is really needed. I salute their efforts, even if I wont buy this specific rope.

You could check out the Edelrid Swift Protect 8.9. Also has aramid in the sheath and triple rated: weighmyrack.com/rope/edelrid-89mm-swift-protect-pro-60m-2xdry

Mammut makes a orange(?) one that is 8.9 or 9.1. I've used it as a single and a double before. One of the lighter triple around. It is a very soft rope tore the sheath a lot on a rap in red rocks. But would still buy again.

This is a misunderstanding, tripple rated ropes are not safer used like that, in fact, they may be less safe due to less protective sheet for the same diameter. Tripple rated ropes have more core material (and less sheet) and are safer to use if you are taking lots of falls repeatedly ( like in sportclimbing) they are less safe than a dedicated half-rope in the mountains where main consern is that it may be cut

@@olavgrttveit9560 climbing with two triple rated ropes are less safe than climbing with two twin ropes? I really don't think there should be a difference. Climbing with one triple rated rope after one has been cut, seems safer than climbing with one twin rope after one has been cut. Maybe it doesn't matter, but my feelings are more fuzzy with a single triple rated rope than a single half rope. So now I climb with two of the swift protect 8.9mm ropes.

@@timonix2 the ratings are made for different types of climbing. A tripple rated rope is safer if you are repeatedly taking big falls. But a half rope has more sheet, and will take longer to wear out (when used in the mountains) than the tripple rated one. If you are taking whippers, again and again, in the mountains, then sure, a tripple rated rope is better when pne pf the ropes are cut, but they will also cut more easily, as there is less protective sheet. In the mountains, I am not worried about snapping a rope after some consequtive factor 2 falls. But having the rope cut from rockfall or edges.. so a half rope is safer as it has more sheet Twin rope i not the same as a half rope, altough most half ropes are also twin rated.
