Yeah I think the hosts and many of the commenters don't really understand the format. I've watched streams where people will send $500 and the streamer will acknowledge them by name and then read whatever message the person paying sent. That can easily add up. Even on tiktok, if you go to very popular tiktok lives, people will be constantly sending gifts, some of which can be worth up to around $500. Because for those few minutes the streamer and chat recognize the donator... they feel like they actually matter. Most of these people are very lonely inviduals who use this as a tool to get some, well... value of their sad life. The higher donation or amount of gifted subs.. the more hype they get. A few minutes later is all gone and they just keep doing it for the dopamin hit.

@@RippanCSGO Very true. The adulation they get from chat, seeing their username repeated as a solid block of text as the chat bot lists their subscriptions, the hype from the streamer, it's all a very convincing counterfeit for human connection...until the high wears off and you realize the loneliness never went away. It reminds me of alcoholics I knew who would buy friends by paying for the next round in a bar, only it's more distant.
