A truly challenging day over Honister Pass into Buttermere in the Lake District. Near freezing conditions, Ice and i dropped the Triumph Tiger 1200. Sorry about the crash, Nick! Great attitude though- back up and on it!💪🏼 The protective gear did it’s job very well. That road looked seriously daunting😳

That’s a shame buddy, we can all look back and think why did I think that was a good idea, upper crash bars help avoid the fairing damage. Glad you’re ok, all part of the learning process that is never over 👍. Don’t mention drones, been there. Not a lucky day…..

Glad you're safe. However, It's got to be said that's a schoolboy error. Ice will always wipe out any 2 wheeled conveyance. You'd have had a better chance riding the thin verge or simply turning back and finding an alternative route.

If I saw that on the road, whilst riding, I'm turning around! I can't believe you tried it!! Water on road, and hard frost on the fields....that should have warned you.

... Mmm. Keswick about 90m above sea level temperature 2 - 3 degrees. Honnister Pass +350m above sea level. Temperature drop per 300m is approx +1 degree. No sun on the road down to Seatoller. I would have thought it was highly likely it might be a wee bit slippy! Despite all the gadgetry & heated grips you cannot defy physics Glad you are ok, impressed with you lifting the bike and giving yourself some recovery time but poor decision making.

well hopefully rider and bike ok :) ..."you can see here,sheer ice"...checks speedo...18mph.....continues onto more ice...then trys braking lol.......1st gear idle would be my go to for this and cover back brake only and head for the grass at the side for more traction until clear but we've all done daft stuff myself included where you look back and see what you could of done different so long as you learn something all good :)

Glad you are OK. But in the Lake District after a wet spell, in December, with temperatures hovering below zero, on narrow roads that you know won't have been gritted! Why take the risk when you know its very likely you will encounter ice. As black adder would say its slipperyer than a slippy thing thats been to night classes to learn how to be slippy🙄Take care on the rest of your travels dude!

Yes if its 2/3 degC along the motorway, those upland passes will almost certainly be icy, especially north facing slopes. I thought 20 years of mtb would've rammed that home but... i still slid off with the motorbike on a shaded roundabout last winter. Always learning. They should put an ice mode on these ECUs. Twist throttle = absolutely zero response ;)

Damn, glad you're ok man! Looks like you were coming down just a little too fast for such treacherously slippery ground, though I imagine even peddling on that would be tricky. Top heavy bike especially doesn't help, though it wouldn't be a real ADV biked without some kind of scuff or battle scar now would it? :) Like a 4WD with no dirt on it. Good thing it wasn't the Bonnie! Safe riding mate.

I doubt that speed had anything to do with it. He was riding very slowly and carefully. It was the lack of friction between tyre and road surface that caused the front wheel to slip out to the side due to the smallest steering input and/or camber in the road. In fact, had he been going more quickly, there is a chance that the gyroscopic effect of the wheels would have helped the bike stay upright - but I wouldn't recommend trying it on a public road!

Well you wanted adventure - you've had one! Before cars became affordable workers would commute on their motorbikes through snow & ice like that. My grandfather once got lost in a blizzard in North Wales. My dad went out on his bike to look for him. Gauntlets and a greatcoat! I think we're getting a bit soft these days but I applaud your honesty in showing the spill - we tend to keep those to ourselves.

2 to 3 degrees.... My van dash would warn of black ice as soon as I put the key in.... But isn't it common knowledge and common sense that Black Ice is guaranteed bad news... Sorry to sound negative but you seem to have covered everything including how warm the seat is... Priorities seem a bit reversed from what's common sensical

Good job it’s all repairable and some hurt pride. And hopefully lessons learned. Personally I don’t go out riding much in winter. But since I live not far from buttermere I need to get out into the park more than I do. It is a stunning place the lake district and I’m probably guilty of taking it for granted. But equally next year I may also tour up the west coast of Scotland. I use to be an all season biker but much prefer it know riding in better weather 🌦️. In winter I plan my next tours and big trips also get any work needed done ready for them. And yes I have become a sessional biker.

@Swarbrick129 10 месяцев назад
Wow you where still doing 14 miles hour onto that ice why didn’t you slow to walking speed or stop and turn round ???replayed the crash a few times you grabbed the front brake witch pulled your steering off centre but you survived to tell another story just a we note why didn’t you get the bike recovered after the fall and hip injury can be the worst even at low speed I personally think all crashes with a bike should disable it until reset by the dealer after it has been checked out and made fit for the road you put yourself and others at risk by carry on

I appreciate you sharing this. Vulnerability is a super power that most will never tap into. It makes us all better. That being said, all falls are scary. Sheesh. Glad you had on all the gear! I remember some time ago when you got the bike I asked you whether you were getting uppers and bark buster hand guards. I believe that you didn’t care for the aesthetics of them. Do you think this changes your mind about those additions? Great that people came to check on you. Also your attitude about your fall (and the drone loss is A+.) Keep creating. Be well my friend.

Sorry to see this, nothing you could've done by that stage obviously and why at my age I've downsized to something more manageable. Well recovered. But for me it questions the wisdom of buying ever more heavy/expensive bikes which are promoted as "adventure" machines, but actually they are ridiculously unwieldy in the very conditions they are meant to be appropriate for. Then you have to add a ton of luggage. Frankly a light scooter with plenty of underseat storage would cope better in those conditions, or a the very least a bike of half the power and weight, on which you could arguably have a better time.

As a trauma dr absolutely support airbags companies need to buck up their designs: mesh as airbag vest too hot in summer , cover arms. Follow Honda gold wing example of pelvic tank bags design airbag for legs armours is useless compared to airbag otherwise we would have armour in cars instead . Need easy reuse of airbag when deployed but suggest caution when weather is so poor why ride ? U only have to break a bone and that stops u riding for 3-6 months

This goes to show that you need the right gear and its so important to wear it . The young guys these days wear cheap gear and then pay the price for small crashes like this .Thank god not all of them do that Like Freddie said great attitude and hope that your all good . Fingers crossed but i havent dumped a bike for long time and i can only say that you must bea strong guy to be able to pick the bike up and carry on . Take care and good luck. Nice stream beutifull country side . 👍👍👍

Hi there I’m not sure if anyone as mentioned this but maybe you should carry a spare canister for the air bag vest because you could of needed it again on the ride home Just a thought I really don’t know how much the canister costs but must be worth it. Don’t worry we all have days like this 😃 please keep doing what you’re doing Regards Andy

Thanks 🙏 Andy. Yes a mate does this in Australia so Ive ordered a couple canisters 👍 they are £89 each 😱 thanks buddy 🙏

I’ve got a vid similar to this which I have never put out due to my stress levels. 😂 And I didn’t even fall off. You should be congratulated for your prowess during this little mishap. Tigers are meant to fight so I would be inclined to leave its battle scars as proof of its experience and adventures.

from one Nick to another, from one minnow on the YT vlogging scene to a seasoned vet and from one lover of drones to another - what an eventful day you had, you have my sympathies. Those engine crash bars saved a fortune and I was amazed at how well the bike came out of it given the impact looked pretty damn heavy. Well done for keeping calm, rallying and pressing ahead. That drone though, talked about being kicked while down 😧.

Glad your ok …do you think your under pressure for content that you are making content that you wouldn’t normally ? I do check the weather during winter and do take my bike out but under very few circumstances ..ie settled and dry …maybe make content home based like mods or your thoughts on bikes etc ?

Ouch, the 12 is a big bike to pickup. I have upper bars on the 9 just to try and save some of the plastic bits. The vest seemed to do the business is it just an easy replacement of a cartridge?

Yes thanks all ok 👍 the cartridge for the airbag ordered a new one online £89 but well worth it and screws in connect wire done 👍

There are bad days and then there are these kind of BAD days... We have a saying over here... when it rains, it pours. I wish YT had a sad emoji for videos. This one would have met the standard. Sorry for your loss of the drone and get off. Any reason as to why the drone decided to take the drink?
@MOTOUK1
@MOTOUK1 10 месяцев назад
Thank you 🙏 one of those days pick myself up and carry on 👍 yes the drone was my mistake also as it has no sensors and was at an altitude and for some strange reason was showing different height on the phone app. So I flew it straight in 🥲 it’s gone now

Looks like you had a bad day Nick. Main thing is your okay and only superficial damage to the bike. Sorry about the Drone just about put the tin hat on it! Perhaps better staying lower level in the winter months and if really bad then best to give it a miss. Get some rest and get yourself right before anymore vlogs. 👍🥶
