My wife and I are going to pushing for a baby soon, so I am really appreciating the videos which show you, being a parent, and still managing to get work done. I thought it was possible, but it is nice to see it reflected in online media. Thanks, man. And yeah: always train untamed!
@@Farquad76.547 it's not overpopulated. People use too much energy on stupid things. If you really think depopulation is the answer, then you can help the world with killing yourself.
I keep my son on a steady diet of McD's and Baskin Robbins. He's 300 pounds and I load him onto a 48" platform. If he done pissed me off, I put him over a 48" bar. I don't have a landing pad for him yet. He's pretty resilient though. When he was little, we had a buggy similar to yours. My favorite thing was to let it coast downhill and race him. He never really got the hang of steering it on his own and I STILL don't let him win ANYTHING...
Good man for literally going out of his way to buy equipment for his members during the pandemic, that and the dedicated rack pull bars for the people who want to use them. I know that Being a gym owner is hard enough and going above and beyond really sets you apart
x2 on the expensive stroller. As a father of 6 kids I can tell you all of them loved riding in it (even when they were way too big) and it was not only a great way to get exercise but also far more convenient when going out to the park etc. Bring it along when the kids are still little and learning to ride. When they get too tired just throw the bike in the back behind the seats and ride the kid home. Ours is about 15yrs old and we got every penny out of it.
Always enjoy the content, congrats on the growing family. It was super cool to see that you checked out equipment to members when Gyms were shut down. What an awesome idea.

My gym is a 3 year old yoga mat and a kettlebell I bought 12 years ago =D This is a solid setup anyone could get ripped in and looks like you can shift it around for space when needed.
Love having all my shit at the house. So much easier, plus going to a gym is a pain in the ass. I mainly do calisthenic stuff, but it is nice to have a designated space.
when my son was really little i always had a blast doing heavy sets while he was in the swing and saying 'next sets yours bro', now i'm jealous of his shoulder caps and he's only a year and a half
Long time listener, first time caller. 2nd time mom with kids about the same age gap, about to move with major square footage downsizing. Thanks for the baby motivation and appreciation of what we have at home.
When you know how to train with first principals thinking you don’t need all that much equipment at all, it’s always nice to have the amenities of a big commercial gym, but I like the creative constraints of limited equipment, makes me think more about programming
just had my first kid and i built me up a decent home gym as well. havent lifted in about 4 years and im working on getting in shape to set the example for my boy, i been watching a few of your vids for form tips and all the other stuff i know nothing about. thank you so much man, your vids help me out alot im super grateful for it. god bless and congrats on your growing family.
Right on Alan, same here. I have a set of Iron Grip dumbbells with Hammer strength adjustable bench for days when I cannot visit a gym. So glad to found your most awesome gym Untamed Strength so close by me. I am saving up for a nice USA made squat rack but not able to get until next year.
That’s my current setup. Bent barbell, bench, rack, 310lbs total(including bar), loadable dumbbells with 1in plates and a pulley I got off Amazon. Nothing fancy and certainly not breaking records but it works for all my current goals. Plus it’s convenient and helps me stay consistent
This is almost identical to my home setup. I don't have a gym and find the ability to be able to make my workouts work around me brilliant time wise. I'd really like to see you figure out a full long term workout with what you have there. There are one or two areas I think I could really use machines to make easier, but you work with what you have.
I know it's not the point of the video but it's really cool you rented some equipment out. A lot of gyms in my area just closed their doors so people were forced to buy their own equipment. I happen to have a Marcy bench and it really doesn't feel safe.
"People would just lose their ... stuff, if they saw a 33-pound plate in with the 35's." LOL! I have a pair of 1-inch 44's that I have paired with a 12-pound bar in my basement. I use standard weights for my dead lift, without moving the bar once I am set up. I've since added some 50-pound plates because I ran out of room on the bar just using 25's. However, the other kilo plates never get used. Thank you for the tour, and the home videos. Stay safe.
Great insight into your old and beaten up gym equipment and how that can translate into a home gym. It's still better than my home gym, but it gives great ideas to improve it 💪
For storage on the concept rower you should store the handle closest to the machine and only place it on the rest/holder when in use.... It ensures you put the least amount of tension on the shock cord when not in use... Is about a 1' of tension not a big deal but ads up
Great video - I actually bought almost exactly that bench off of Amazon - it was a bit more new, but still really cheap. Very light bench - wood and aluminum - but plenty for me and the wife.
Awesome video brother! Simple, super effective, a few repurposed pieces from years of acquisition, all conveniently located at home for when you’re in a pinch. Love it.
Love these videos on home gym setups. I'm currently, taking heavy notes from your garage strongman vid, scrapping together some items for the basics. Snagged a cheap pair of powerblocks which have been huge for my home setup. Cant recommend them enough. Stay sexy big dog.
Finally a use for a 35lb plate! You can toss it in one of those burley carts and go for a stroll! Gonna start seeing them all around California now. You heard it here first
I just got mine set up over memorial day weekend. Body Solid SPR500 + ok bench + 290lbs in plates for now and also my random assortment of dumbbells and strength bands. Stuff isn't cheap but it can last a lifetime.
Some of my best sessions running and biking were pushing or pulling my son when he was younger in a Burley bike trailer just like yours and another jogging stroller. Fun times!!!
For a quick home setup, it's pretty sick! Me and my partner only train from home now. We've got a relatively substantial home setup. Power Rack, Platform, Bumpers, Oly crash pads, Kettlebells, Landmine, Olympic Rings and a load of other accessory things. I can't imagine training in a gym now, apart from maybe the odd week here and there. The convenience is unbelievable and not having to work in with people!
Unrelated to this video, but I recently used your stretching routine to successfully rehab a strained quad- during an ATG low bar squat. I have also used your pointers from what you’ve learned about squats in general from other coaches. So, thank you very much👍🏼
Much respect. When I had a newborn and a 2-year-old I did less working out at home than you. Though, I'm back to doing a lot more now that they are older.
Right near the end. 17:02 Gotta be a little careful with rings. No shortage of people getting shoulder injuries by jumping into fully off the ground dips too soon. Also the stabiliser muscles and stuff fatigue faster than the primary muscles being worked, so it's not recommended to ever go to failure on rings, to prevent injury. Something like that! Unless it's just pulling exercises, like pull-ups or rows, then one could go to failure if they wanted to (then there's the topic of whether going to failure in general makes sense, but anyway). Olympic Rings are awesome. I wish more companies made free-standing, adjustable, foldable, indoor contraptions to suspend rings from. Pretty basic stuff, but a kind of rare product to be built well.
I started with the Adidas branded version of that bench, got it on sale for $40 from Amazon. It was sturdy and well built but moved on as I got stronger as it was a little narrow and short. Most of my plates are those junky old Weider plates that I got second hand too!
One of my pal's reckons that if he owned a gym, he'd have so many people banned within 12 months, he'd have to close down! People doing rack pulls in the squat rack, dropping metal places on the deadlifting platform, and slamming the cable weights. I never really thought about it, but those barbells in particular come in for a lot of damage.
The bike stroller is the Burley Honey Bee. My wife and I have the model below that that can't convert to a stroller. We have a separate Thule Urban Glide (which unfortunately only can hold one child) for runs with kids.
Bruh that's all you need. I have a squat stand, barbell, and plates. I also having a rowing machine and inversion table (just helps with my back getting tight). It's all I need and it was great during lockdowns. My squat and ohp got much stronger.
Unlatch your rower. The handle doesn’t need to rest in that catch while you’re not using it. It can actually strain the chain if it sits like that for a long time
I hope this video is sarcasm. I've invited a lot of money in my home gym, and learned the hard way that there's a difference between having and using equipment. Use all that stuff with pride while you work every muscle group. Look into varies ways to use the equipment you have, and how to modify equipment you have thats 'off' to use it, and you have an awesome setup. Consider having some stuff ready to use outside. Working out in the sun on a hot clear day has rewards😎 You may want to consider cutting some of the bent bars to make new equipment for stuff like broom twists, or tricep presses. How you have your hands and hold the equipment can be changed up for different purposes and rewards.
Hey Alan thrall, love the vids. Currently a Sgt in the USMC, getting back in the gym after a couple of years and an injury to my shoulder. I was doing starting strength at the time and was wondering if you recommended that program again or the barbell medicine beginner’s program?
The more stuff I have for the house the less I use any of it. My favorite and most simple piece that gets by far the most use has been my Olympic rings and pushup handles where I do weighted pullups/pushups and a million other things you can discover on your own with the rings. I lift on an scrap of siding. It kind of looks like a hardwood floor but it's way tougher. I have a spin bike but I typically just go for a walk/yog for my cardio.
It was about $0.50 per lb but those days are gone. Used deals seem to be pretty bad now as well. I feel for those of you are just getting into lifting now.
@@NONO-hz4vo yeah, around 2019 they were around $0.25-$0.50/lb... Now it is insane. Craigslist/Facebook NO ONE replies back. I even tried asking gyms for broken weight plates and they say send them back and get new ones, so I can't even buy from them
The core here is similar to mine, except it has grown to cover a full double garage now. Most of the equipment is second hand from friends/online or abandoned. I built it because I live hours into the countryside and my prior gym near my work in London was caught refolding towels.
Gets the job done! This definitely doesn't entice me to want to hit the weights, which is a downside for many people, but if that isn't a concern, then hell yea. I want to see my set-up and be like fuck yea, that's where I wanna be.
Almost impossible to find a used Concept2 rower around here... and if you do it's at least $1000. The good news is almost every part is available for, and replaceable by, the home user.
I have a squat rack and a bar that is not to dissimilar to your Axel bar (only that its normal barbell thickness). My plates are square and I have no idea what they weigh, their heavy though. Point being, it doesn't take a lot to lift and be good at it.
