Manchester United have made a second bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite thought to be in the region of £45m plus £5m in add-ons.
The bid is expected to be rejected by Everton.
United will then have to decide if they will go back in with an improved offer.

💯 Utd have only just hired key personnel in their recruiting and scouting departments. The same money will go *much* further once Utd adopt a modern, professional method of finding and making transfers. I'm hoping for budget options this summer - more of the likes of Eriksen, Evans and Amrabat. It'll be a tough season, but letting the new team bed in will be the right thing to do in the long run.

That’s what happens when you and other rich clubs pay highly inflated prices for the likes of Maguire, Fofana and plenty others. We sold John Stones for £50 million 8 years ago, and personally I think Branthwaite for us has been even better that Stones was. That’s why I’d want no less than £70 million up front, but I’m happy to keep hold of him for as long as we can.

Manchester United made this second bid public for a reason. They went in with the first bid knowing it wouldn't be accepted and they are putting a slightly improved final offer publicly so that if it is accepted or rejected and they walk away it shows the rest of the world they will walk away from stupid money deals so don't even try it thus creating a reputation for being stronger in transfer market. It's a good outcome for Manchester United either way.

I think Everton either don’t want to sell the player or have misjudged the current economic climate in football. We won’t see loads of players going for 60/70/80 mil+ this year because everyone is caught up in FFP issues. 70 mil for Branthwaite is completely unrealistic in the current climate for a player with 1 season as a regular in the first team, no international and no European football experience.

Another mistake from the recruitment team to continue pursuing the guy at that price. I thought they learnt lessons from highly hyped and priced players who will come and deliver below average football yet earn a lot on five year contract. Branthwaite FBREF complete scouting report is actually awful. Branthwaite is just a Chris Smalling regen. But we didn't pay £50m+ for Smalling. We are getting fleeced paying over the odds on a defender that can *ONLY* defend. Its a huge risk to spend that much on a player that has only played Brexit low-block football. I would be very disappointed if we get him. So many better options tbh.

With TenHag as the manager, it won’t help much. No system, no style just endless excuses and mediocrity. Only national cup trophies and not a Champion’s League challenge in sight. And please, give up the injuries excuse. If TenHag had a system, new players would know where to play and how to play. All the season we saw ping-pong football and no style.
