What equipment do you need to run 250km / 155 miles self-supported through a desert?
At RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts Ultras racers are required to carry everything they need when they run or hike 250km / 155 miles across a desert.
There are 35 items of equipment that each racer must carry including food, sleeping bag, clothes, emergency items and ....... toilet paper.
They all fit into a 25-32L backpack weighing approximately 10kg / 22lbs.
4 Deserts Club member and course director Carlos Garcia shows us each of the 35 mandatory items.

Will we be provided plastic bottles at the end of the day? We can cut them up to cook our freeze dried meals in.

That's good intel you have 🙂. But we do not provide individual one-use plastic bottles anymore. Water is decanted from large containers that you will fill your bottles from. However in this COVID time this will likely change for races in 2021. We will confirm with you.

@@racingtheplanet Good to know! Another good option is to carry a clean peanut butter (Nutella) container with you. During the day it can be used to pack your first aid kit and other things and at night it can be used to cook freeze dried meals.

@@johnbezou1143 great idea. Or juat a lightweight bowl so you can keep your first aid kit together at all times in a zip lock bag. Actually some zip lock bags can handle hot water so you can eat directly from them.

@@racingtheplanet I should have clarified...the first aid kit can be stored in a Ziploc bag inside the peanut butter container. Also Stasher makes a silicon, reusable zip lock bag that can withstand high heat that can be used to cook in. www.stasherbag.com/
