Absolutely sublime. I'm in my 50's and have loved this since the day it came out. He was an exceptional musician in that he had two very successful bands with completely different styles. And both were brilliant.
I saw Manfred Mann in '74 the night Nixon resigned (Harrisburg Farm Show Arena). They played the intro to Father of Day for a long time. I swore there were angels playing. They played before Blue Oyster Cult and Uriah Heep. I went to see Blue Oyster and Uriah Heep. I have to agree with the other comments, Manfred Mann put on a better show than the others. I was amazed since I was expecting to only hear Mighty Quinn. I hate to think about how long ago that was.
So happy i came across this tune , blinded by the light got me here. gonna buy all their albums , seriously good stuff ahead i can bet . love the backward stuff in this track , great vocals . peace .
'Solar Fire' was an album I played a lot when I was a nipper back in the mid 1970's. Great to hear this track- thanks for uploading it. BTW think that Bob Dylan wrote the original.
One of the most underrated prog bands of all time. I even like the way the singer nearly loses his voice in the end It's shameful most people only identity them with Blinded by the Light.
Father of night, Father of day, Father, who taketh the darkness away, Father, who teacheth the bird to fly, Builder of rainbows up in the sky, Father of loneliness and pain, Father of love and Father of rain. Father of day, Father of night, Father of black, Father of white, Father, who build the mountain so high, Who shapeth the cloud up in the sky, Father of time, Father of dreams, Father, who turneth the rivers and streams. Father of grain, Father of wheat, Father of cold and Father of heat, Father of air and Father of trees, Who dwells in our hearts and our memories, Father of minutes, Father of days, Father of whom we most solemnly praise.
I loved this album back it came out and am now hereing this song for first time in decades totally for got it...will have to get the cd and refresh my memries..thanks
Just picked this up at Pop's Resale in Lexington KY. I thought $9 was a little steep for a 37 year old vinyl.. Until I listened to it. Album is in mint condition and much more enjoyable than listening to the crap bought off Itunes. My dad got me into 70's rock in the early 90's (when i was about 4-5 ha) and have never turned back. It's albums like this, Jethro Tull's Heavy Horses that make me keep listenin'. Kinda sad that no music is anywhere near this today.
@missyourita i am really sorry for your loss, and i share your sad feelings. A dear friend of mine offered me this record on 1979 when we were at university. He died 5 months ago . paul
