Manga Chat! | “Cutie Honey”/“Suki”/“The Flower of Life"

As someone who loves most of Go Nagai's work I will be the first to tell you that his work is an acquired taste and no he doesn't promote the stuff that's inappropriate but he will take both a goofy concept and cringeworthy concept and slam them together full force head on and then he will take it and run with it as long as he can and he will just have fun with it. In all honesty however there is more than one manga series of Cutie Honey and to be specific their is one that is more mild and tame than the original classic you have so please try to give Cutie Honey another shot but only if you want too. You should look more in to his work as we because he has done more friendly and wholesome things like his Mecha manga story's. The manga of Go Nagai's I have personally read is Cutie Honey, Magziner Z, Kekko Kamen, Iron Lady, Violence Jack, Devilman, Devilman Lady, Enma Kun, and one where a little homeless boy gets adopted in to a rich family it's a shame that I can't remember what it's called. The ones I'd like to read is Cinderella Knight and Iron Virgin Jun because I've heard about them and seen reviews of them but never gotten to read them. Do be warned a lot of them can get real weird and shocking plus cringeworthy so like you said so read at your own risk and watch the OVAs at your own risk too. In fact here's a list of what not to read and watch when it comes to Go Nagai in my honest and personal opinion. 1: Any of the Devilman manga or anime. 2: Devilman Lady manga and anime because even though it has a better story, like Devilman it has a lot more negative moral and religious implications to it and the scenes and dialogue is just as intense. 3: Any of the Enma Kun manga and definitely avoid the anime. 4: Violence Jack because even though he's a hero, he's a dark gritty antihero in a post apocalyptic world and there is a lot in both the manga and OVAs that are hard to swallow. 5 and Final: Delinquent in Drag because even though it's funny in some parts the main character is a jerk and incest is not okay even though it was a joke and nothing actually happened, I stress this is just my opinion. Others I think you should try to read is Iron Virgin Jun because it in a way calls out the abuse that happens in rich families but be warned it has it's cringeworthy moments like Cutie Honey in fact watch the OVA because it's more mild and tame. Also try if you feel up for it Kekko Kamen because even though she's a weird half naked superhero because she's a parody on superheroes the manga does call out child abuse that happens inside of Japan's schools, that's also one of the reasons why I like Cutie Honey because it calls out abuse within Catholic schools. P.s sorry this comment is so long but I feel you should know all this because most people aren't brave enough to check out Go Nagai's work and a lot of people don't realize how versatile he can be but if you want his more wholesome work check out his Mecha manga story's.

I'm all for this, even though I watch you on IGTV because I'm a true fan. I definitely want to read Flowers of Life. Just wish volume 4 weren't impossible to find.

I just read Flower of Life a few weeks ago because I’m trying to read all of Yoshinaga’s manga. I did enjoy it, but it didn’t stick with me the way some of her standalone volumes have (I love Garden Dreams and All My Darling Daughters). I am reading Ooku now, though, and it’s quite a heavy read at times, very dense where I cannot always finish a volume as quickly as I can with other series. But regardless Fumi Yoshinaga is a gem who is far too underrated. Also, I was curious: if you end up buying the new Magic Knight Rayearth set coming out, will you do a video review of it? I love CLAMP, but MKR is not one of their top series for me. Even so, you’re a reviewer whose opinion I really trust, and I was interested in seeing how you like Kodansha’s release once it’s available. I really love your manga talks - so great to have a place to turn to find my next read! However - do you maybe think that it would be a good idea to make like one in depth video about your problems with age gaps, and then not spend so much time on the issue in every video? I really love your videos, but long talks about age gaps in close to every video feels a bit excessive. Thanks for the great manga tips!
