Mangalorean Prawns Curry is popularly known as Yeti Gassi is Mangalore where yeti means prawns and gassi stands for a curry. The spice and the tangy flavors in this Curry draw you in. Serve this Prawn Curry with Steamed rice or dosas for a Delicious meal.
Mangalorean Prawns Curry Recipe Ingredients -
To Make Coconut Paste
1 tbsp Coconut Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
10-15 Black Peppercorns
1 tsp Fennel Seeds
15 Fenugreek Seeds
1 tbsp Coriander Seeds
1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
10 Byadgi Red Chillies
1/2 Fresh Coconut (grated)
5 Garlic Cloves (chopped)
10 Pearl Onion
To make Curry
3 Tbsp Coconut Oil
500 Gms Prawns (shelled & deveined)
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
Ground Coconut Paste
1 ltr Water
Salt
3-4 Kokum Petals
1 tbsp Tamarind Pulp

To add to this. Add curry leave to the tempering. Marinate prawns in ginger garlic paste and turmeric and fry it till GG paste cooks. It enhances the taste of the whole curry!

Beautiful recipe. Have made it a couple of times with the below adjustments 1. Instead of water I use shell stock from the shells and head of the prawns I use in this curry. 2. I skip frying the prawns and add them right at the end of cook a minute before I turn off the flame.

Love mandalorean prawn curry. Good video. The coconut ail and fresh coconut give it a unique flavour. If I may add a bit o advice, never overcook prawns. They turn to rubber. Prawns should be kept aside after cooking for two minutes max in coconut oil and at the very last added to the curry.

It's nice... Being mangalorean my mom's method was slightly different... Yes do add the curry leaves while cooking enhances also enhances the flavour... Curry leaves are the key ingredient... This is traditional tasty recipe!!many recipes use tomatoes in gravy which is never used in traditional coastal curries instead tamarind pulpl or kokam are used as shown in this video.

Love the recipe except for the spiciness. Easy to follow. Suggestion : Add less pepper and chillies if you want to reduce spicy burn. Prawns should be cooked for just two minutes and set aside to be added later to the curry. Thanks Smita.

I do just that. I add the prawns right at the end of the cook. A minute before turning off flame or sometimes even after turning it off if the prawns are smaller

doesn't the prawn get over cooked here, and chewy? isn't bring the gravy to a boil and then just dropping the prawns in a better way. the heat is good enough to cook the prawns and keep it soft and delicious.

Yeah, totally agree. Prawns will continue to cook in the residual heat, so adding them to the gravy in the later stage may be good idea.

@@domesticchef894 , i feel if the prawns are added directly into the gravy, the smell of prawns will remain in there. Cooking them first in coconut oil to ~80%, will ensure the smell has gone and remaining cooking would happen in the gravy. Tried this, and it turned out awesome!!

Madam we Mangloreans do not use small onions its used only in Kerala n TN. This is definitely not Tulunadu recipe. Very sorry

Hi I am from Kerala . We use the same clay pot mostly for fish . It does add something to the dish, especially if you keep it in the dish for a few hours.

Red chilli powder is more spicy whereas Kashmiri is not so spicy but gives a good red color to the food.
