My Valencia Pride mango tree located in Santa Ana, So Cal. Tree has been in the ground for about a year starting in November 2020. Bought this tree from Wong Farms near the Salton Sea. Had 8 mangoes its 1st year but most fell due to the weight of the mangoes breaking the branches. Had to tie the branches and remaining mangoes with strings for additional support. Recommend planting a mango tree if you are in So Cal.

Thank you Huot. Recommend to add pavers to your yard to minimize the presence of rodents and other pests.

Hi Vocal Review!, this is my second comment. How many varieties of mango in your back yard?, plus other fruits trees. I have Glenn, Valencia Pride, Manila, and little Miyazaki, plus longan, guava. I very curious to see fruit trees like your, thanks. I am not far from you, just in LA county.

@Lakewood Montessori, sorry, misread your message. Thought you said you have "seen" mang trees. Wow, seven mango trees? What kinds, how old, and are they planted in Lakewood, So Cal? Would love to see them if you have pics or videos to share. Thanks.

@@vocalreview Hello there! We are neighbors. One of my Manila had over 500 fruits last year, unfortunately it was small. I have 4 Manila, 1 Malika, 1 Doug Mai, 1 Keith. I'm sorry, I am not sure how to share pictures here.

Very nice. I am jealous of your mango success. I am in the SF Bay Area, zone 9, and have tried mango trees twice without success. It is either our heavy clay soil here, or the colder winter temperatures. I haven't completely given up though. Glad to know that they will grow and thrive in the warmer parts of our state.

Where in the bay area? There are people who have Manila Mangos doing well,fruiting. Mine is about 12-14' in 12 years tall. Manila might not be very best cultivar but when home grown and picked off the tree ripe- beats the supermarket versions.

How are you going to mulch it and fertilize it if the roots are under the pavement?

I have a 3 year old Mango tree. It starts with a lot of flowers and baby mangos. I don’t know why the flowers start dying and so do the tiny baby mangos. I usually end up with no more than 10 mangos. Any suggestions that can help me out.

Very nice tree. I just bought a Alphonso and Manila + many citrus trees. I’m trying to get a Sweet Tart mango. I’m also in Santa Ana off Edinger. Cheers 🤙🏽

My aunt in Fountain Valley has a Manila that has been in the ground for about 5 years or so and it's doing very well. Fruit is sweet and delicious. Only drawbacks are that the tree appears to be an alternate bearer with small fruit. You may need to go online to try to find a sweet tart mango. If you have space, I recommend getting a Keitt mango from Wong Farms (wongfood.com). Do you have a video of your mango trees? I think a lot of the mango lovers out there would be interested to see.

Do you happen to know what is the seasonal month for the Valencia pride, when it starts to flower and the months??

Hi Dan, I've only had my Valencia Pride in Santa Ana, So Cal for 2 years but can tell you my experience thus far. Blooming starts in April but most of that blooms die out. A 2nd bloom occurs in June / July and a lot of fruit is formed from this 2nd bloom. Problem with my location is that it's close to the ocean so does not get enough heat to ripe. As a result, a lot of my mangos stay on the tree into November / December. Problem is we get a lot of rain and wind in November / December and these weather events cause the not-fully-riped mangos to split and fall off the tree. A few do ripe on the tree but the majority split and/or fall off before becoming fully ripe.

Looks delish. I just planted a Valencia, how does it taste? Keitt is a very sweet, not much fiber mango.

Sweet with a hint of coconut and pineapple. I just did 2 VocalReviews recently of my Valencia Pride mangos describing the taste. Go to my VocalReview channel to view. Thanks.

What size did you purchase it as and how much was it 🤔
@vocalreview

I bought it in a container that was both wider and shorter than a 15 gallon for $160 from Wong Farms near the Salton Sea. I'm starting to think the graft location which is at the top of the trunk may be to blame for the drooping. What do you think?

@vocalreview I agree , unfortunately. If you would like I can give you two socal keitt trees in exchange.

Hi ,can I have the name and the address of the farm you bought the mango from ? And how much did you pay for this lovely mango? Thanks
@vocalreview

Jenny Phan, you can get contact info for Wong Farms by going to their website at wongfood.com. Suggest you call them first before going there. They have mango plants for sale as well as about a thousand mango trees planted in the ground.

Hi, you have a beautiful Mango tree. Can you share how you cared for it especially in winter? Thank you in advance.
@vocalreview
@vocalreview 2 года назад
Hi Pushpinder, thank you for the compliment. I don't water my mango tree in the winter for fear it might develop root rot. For the most part, I let nature takes its course meaning I rely on our southern California winter rain to water my plants. I pretty much shut down the watering of my mango tree in early December and don't resume watering again until early March. This is to minimize the chance of root rot developing. I also never fertilize my trees because I believe the southern California soil is the best soil out there. What kind of mango tree do you have and where are you growing it?

To young to be letting fruit grow on it! Let all the energy go into making thick branches.
