Apart from Tabu, Urmila Matondkar was the one who was taking up the most challenging and unconventional roles during 90s and early 2000s. She is a brilliant actress.
lol. really?! tabu was mostly busy playing the pretty girl next door in the 90s and Urmila was all over the place, she even did movies in Malayalam. but everywhere her lack of talent stood tall over her sexy exterior.
@@theprovocateur24 When you only love watching crappy commercial movies that's what you will feel. heard of movies like Machos, Astitva, Chandni Bar or movies like Satya, Kaun or Shoot.
@TheJellyBrainJuice Maybe you haven't seen all of their movies and it's not your fault. Just that you must not have been interested but judging these two talented ladies without watching all of their works is just as unfortunate as not watching it. And yeah, you really must have an unreachable standards to not see Urmila's talent. Exuding sexiness is a talent on its own, not many can look sexy and classy at the same time and in all her songs, she has delivered more than must have been required.
Ah FINALLY you guys have watched this!!! I personally feel there's no better song that showcases the MAD and completely ORIGINAL GENIUS THAT IS A.R.RAHMAN, and the way he GOBSMACKED us time again during those golden 90s!! Somehow this is one of the less talked about songs in Rangeela!
Just listen to Rangeela and Taal tracks - videos not even needed. There are so many intricate arrangements he used and was in an experimental phase in Hindi movie industry. Great tracks.
Finally!!!! This is one of the best songs ever of Hindi cinema. The female singer is Shweta Shetty, a 90s popstar. Now I guess you have two more, one is the mellow soft song and another is the instrumental 'Spirit of Rangeela' one of A.R. Rahman's favourite compositions which he performs in almost every concert. And yes, you two will never be able to get hold of Urmila Matondkar as you keep forgetting her in movies, which means you have to watch her movies. Bhoot, Ek Hasina Thi, Tehzeeb, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, Pinjar, Rangeela are some of the best films of her. Please do!
Commenting for the idk how many times, ARR albums to go for next: 1. Boys (Shankar film) 2. Ayitha Ezhuthu (Mani Ratnam film) (One song was in Thaikkudam Bridge tribute which is Jana Gana Mana) 3. Kandukondain Kandukondain album 4. Thiruda Thiruda (Mani Ratnam film) (you reacted to some stage and cover performance of the songs) 5. Indian (Shankar film) (you already reacted to Pachai Kiligal song starring Kamal Haasan from this film) Note this down Rick and Korbin, and I will tell you more
Is Thiruda Thiruda necessary? Isnt Kannathil Mutham Itaal faar better? Also isnt Anniyan better than Indian? EDIT: I thought you were talking about the movie and not the song albums. Great selection.
@@thereisnospoon123 Didn't see the edit you wrote, sorry.. I was just talking about songs, not the movies, also I love Anniyan and Indian equally imo 😀
This was A R s first Hindi album so it felt he was so adamant on proving a point to the north indian audience, who were only used to the 90s cheese that time
@@cricketer5053 wht do u mean by the world???? West or bollywood? Where r u from? Wht do u know abt 80s 90s south indian music? South always had world class musicians bollywood was the one churning out cheese and even still today it is
@@mayurakshidey7787 no its not every artists in the world do care about making a mark in the world with their talent moreover your opinion is actually a thought process of your inferiority complex
There are many songs made in the same rhythm before. Like "tere baap ko maine dekha bandra station pe", even the ending of the lines in this and mangta hai kya are same. Mhk is better because of ar rehman print, but it's not something utterly revolutionary
this is potentially my favourite ever song created by ar rahman....it's been so many years and it's still so fresh and original. absolutely nobody has created something like this!
You both watched this song!! Made my day. The entire 'Rangeela' soundtrack is so versatile and it really has some phenomenal songs but for some reason this one is never the first one people refer to. So yay yay to you!
I still remember when this song was released in Indian televisions many people were not able to absorb this song as most of the Indians were easy listeners during 90s..It was the first Hindi Slow Poisonous Hit of ARR..
Hi Guys, this song, like most (not all) Hindi film songs will only make proper sense in the flow of the actual film. So, if you had seen the film you would immediately understand the visuals including flying over NYC... She takes Munna (Aamir Khan) to a movie studio.... And shows him look what is possible here in this place... And so the lyrics goes 'Mangta hai kya... " in Mumbai slang... What do you wish for..."jo mangta hai woh milega tumko"... You can have whatever you wish for here.. Both in terms of what is possible in the celluloid virtual world.. And also to imply if he is not scared to dream big (which Munna was... quite locked in his comfort zone).... Thanks for sharing your reactions.
You should react to "Daud" movie songs. Urmila and Sanjay Dutt are the central casts.Urmila's expression, body language, dances are always worth watching. And she is a great actress too.
The female singer is Shweta Shetty (one of the finds of the IndiPop era of the 90s). Her voice and appearance were unusual for Indian showbiz back then so she did not become as big a name as she could have today. Also, she married a German and settled in Germany away from the limelight. This song is one of my favourites not just for the crazy composition but also for the contrasting vocals of Shweta and A R Rahman. Indians are generally used to female vocals being high pitched and male vocals being bass. This duo flipped that notion on its head. Back in the day, most Indians were echoing your sentiment of "I have never heard anything like that before".
AR Rehman is as well the singer of this song. Ramgopal Verma, director of Satya has directed this movie. He is very creative. Urmila Matondkar has acted in Masoom as child actor. You had reviewed Masoom.
This is ONE of AR Rehman's BEST tracks EVER! Listen to the composition when you are a little high. Put on your headphone and this track is a MASTERPIECE!!
Welcome again to the RANGEELA world This song is a masterpiece way ahead of it's time. Gorgeous in every aspect . Urmila is an absolute delight the screen loves her. the lighting on the set is astounding and also the choreography. this is one of the best compositions from A R Rahman
It was ahead of time? Lol there was nothing in the ahead time so I guess the song was better in its better times. 90s music was a great time in either filmi or pop or internationally
The singer is Shweta Shetty. I had actually forgotten about her. She has a powerful voice as is evident in this song. Amazing singer. BTW, ARR has also sung in this track
Rahman Sir Composed this in 95...man the originality, arrangements, creativity at its peak.....Rick and Corbin today saying that "Never heard like this"....just imagine about people in 1995😅 A R Rahman Sir is absolute Genius 😍
Again like few other songs from this movie, this is also a dream sequence from the perspective of Amir's character. That's why there is sense of surrealism in it.
This was not a dream sequence. If I recall it right, Munna questioned what's so great about the movies and Urmila was showing him what all can be created in a studio.

1996 Filmfare for best music-Rangeela - A. R. Rahman Other Noms. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge - Jatin-Lalit Karan Arjun - Rajesh Roshan Akele Hum Akele Tum - Anu Malik Raja - Nadeem-Shravan
I daresay that in most of the movies where Urmila starred as a lead actor, she has absolutely magnetic screen presence. There may have been some actors who were better dancers technically, but one cant imagine these songs with any other actors than Urmila. And a lot of credit for the techno-wizardry of ARR must also go to the director Ram Gopal Varma, whose scenic conceptualization was key to the overall soundscape in the film.
AR's music stands neutral because it neither belongs to the tradition sounds of Kollywood nor Bollywood. The first look of his music was from tamil cinema (Roja). A new pattern of music introduced in 90's and that made him so familiar around India, even world.
U forgot to mention how colorful the whole song was, which I remember watching it in theatre. All the songs in the movie are brillant, Colorful, sensual, erotic, what not...
In today's current generation, if Urmila Matondkar is a acting, she would have been so fabulous to watch taking new challenging roles each and every time.
There's a RU-vid video on 25 years of Rangeela with RJ Rohini where Aamir , Ram Gopal Varma and ARR talk about the movie and the music. Very interesting take on how ARR composes. You should check it out if copyright allows.
I don't know if Aamir has any dance training (he was an athlete) but he has a natural grace in his movements. Of the three original Khans (Aamir, Salman and Shahrukh) he is the only one that can dance well. You have to check out his drag number from the 90s. He makes a pretty woman too! 😄
Obviously this is one of AR Rahman's best compositions Chaiyya Chaiyya (brought AR Rahman on the world stage) Jai Ho (which won him an Oscarl) Tanha Tanha from Rangeela (his use of pan flutes unheard in Bollywood music at that time) in fact the entire soundtrack of Rangeela is what every non Indian should listen to (the Rangeela soundtrack won AR Rahman his first Filmfare award as a mainstream Indian music composer, he had already won awards for Roja as a music composer earlier) Next: obviously Dil Se. This is probably AR Rahman's best composition. The entire soundtrack is superlative, only matched by what he composed for "slum dog millionaire " Credit goes to Urmi (Urmila) + Aamir + Ram Gopal Verma for creating this number when it was way ahead of its time (this was 1995). So you can obviously imagine.
Yes, it IS fantasy Korbin ... :-) Urmila the budding actress and teen-age love of Amir takes him to her film-shooting studio to show how it all goes on... He initially makes a sarcastic comment but when the scene transitions in to this song, Amir is left totally mesmerized.
Watch out thiruda thiruda songs.. movie directed by Manirathnam.. especially "thee thee" and " virapandi kotayilae" songs.. great composition as usual. Also shankar movies..
Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please react to the song HUMMA HUMMA old version from the movie BOMBAY. It's another master composition from legendry A R REHMAN
Enduring hallmark of our genius Dost-bouts of linearity, lots of tangents and genre hopping tie ups… pretty routine really 😆 Best way to watch his music videos-eyes closed! C’mon c’mon, Join the joyride …
one of the best soundtracks and so timeless and nostalgic... urmila is basically playing an actress in the film hence stage/dress/dance and props like in a theatre production and some random outside 'film set' shots like the sofa with city in the background...
