James is one of those rare vocalists who I'm fairly convinced that his tech could turn his mic off mid song and nobody would notice anything other than an improvement in tone.
This is the sound track like no other. What a vocal. James never disappoints. Ready for drowning is amazing. This is my truth tell me yours is one of the greatest albums ever. Urban hymns has the same beauty to it. 2 bands with 2 genius songwriting front men. I was 18 when these where released. The glory days
History. Since the the dawn of man one group of people will try to dominate and control another. We call them fascists. Unlike Wikipedia's version of Fascism, fascists have no allegiance to any particular party. Their allegiance is to authoritarian control. First they take your means of self-defense, then they take your freedom, lastly they take your life. Rinse and repeat.
Watching from Queensland Australia . This song gives me goosebumps , back when it came out and still now all these years later . Very prophetic indeed 🎶
@@adetrythall Nothing to do with Spanish Civil War. Everything to do with the infringement of personal rights, freedom, and children's well-being and safety.
They are so bloody good live, as I found out at a concert of theirs in 2002 in Plymouth, with my good friend Jaki, who died in 2018. I miss you Jak, God bless you always x
@@simonwilliams1238 Blimey I had completely forgotten about that. He was pretty awful. One of the gigs (I think it was Cardiff) someone threw a banana at him and he came down to the audience to shout at the thrower!!! I followed them round for that tour quite a bit. Amazing times.
Music would not be the same without this band. The way Richie, Sean, James and Nicky write/wrote cannot be replicated ... they're geniuses within the music industry. I hope they carry on writing and producing for years to come. I hope to see them live soon...
Great band. To be fair it was Dylan who did this 60 years earlier and said it before. So not quite right to say then pop song couldn’t have been political without the Manics.
This group just lives a few miles from me and stereophonic lives in the other valley from me just over the mountain and I used to bump into late Stewart Cable and he always said hi when we passed by 🏴
Well from what side were tolerating our governements in Europe deciding to cut our oil and gas supplies sending many families into poverty that's the bit we shouldn't be tolerating
This song holds a lot of sad memories for me, evrytime I listen it makes me want to cry. One of my favourite songs regardless of the memories it brings up - I fell in love with this song when I was about 8
I remember staying up late especially to tape this. I can't actually believe this was over 13 years and I still get that same sense of childlike excitement I got when I was 12. JDB has one of, if not, the best voices in music I have ever heard :)
Love how James and Nicky are positioned on that stage, to the right of James, respectfully keeping that space open for Richey.... such a strong silent respectful statement..hope he’s alright wherever he may be..
We are all tolerating this and leaving our children to be exploited, lied to and financially screwed. When will the working classes show some guts and say "We've had enough of this? RISE.
Saw them first 92 in a small club in Germany and a couple of times later. Really mindblowing. One of the most underrated fantastic bands. Looking forward to see the next concert. 🤘
Years have passed and now I realized that this song is about the same war where the Adagio from Concierto de Aranjuez was based. Such sorrow. So much sorrow.
It's sooo dawned on me why I loved this song. Coz of the sound setups on the bass and the Hammond, it really sounds like this song crossed with "The Only One I Know" by The Charlatans. Just a brilliant 4 minutes :)

"During the first two months of the war it was the Anarchists more than anyone else who had saved the situation, and much later than this the Anarchist militia, in spite of their indiscipline, were notoriously the best fighters among the purely Spanish forces." George Orwell - Homage to Catalonia page 62. Let's not forget that there was a Spanish Revolution within the Spanish Civil War. Viva Durruti!
