The whole cheating twist is so weird. Cole is a noble officer who has a happy wife. Maybe if he was legitimately interviewing the German chick and Roy had lied or slandered him and because Roy has connections and stuff he gets cole canned, that would make sense. Also the Brenda/stoker line was a true case and inspiration to what happened to cole

As someone who's never played this game it made no sense to me and came completely out of nowhere. Like our Glaswegian friend said, I completely forgot Cole had a family, but I also felt like having an affair was out of character

For me it added depth to coles character. Cole isnt a typical protagonist, he is extremely flawed and the game never pretends he isnt. Same goes for his army flashbacks. His actions end up getting a lot of people killed. Hes a good detective, and tries to be a good person, but often fails.

@AI-Maginations Thank you! So many people don't seem to understand that Cole isn't some perfect noble man. He's a very flawed character & the game is pretty clear about that in many ways. It makes him much more believable.

It's a shame this case derailed the game, Cole cheating had no build up at all, how is anyone supposed to feel anything when Elsa has shown up only briefly once or twice before and his wife has never been seen till after the scandal happens. Wish they found some other reason to demote him.

Roy calls Cole out for spending time at the blue room when he "should be at home in bed with the wife & kids" well before this though. You aren't meant to feel anything but disdain for Cole. Elsa & his wife aren't important enough for more screen time regarding this. It's just meant to drive home how flawed Cole is as a character.

@@nikhilcruz Ever since Elsa was first introduced right after the Mark Bishop traffic case, there are several cutscenes after the rating screens (spread across multiple cases) that show Cole frequenting the Blue Room alone, and it was *always* when Elsa's the one performing. Mooney has never showed them in the YT series so I was surprised when I played the game on my own. I agree that the cheating plot point was overall executed rather poorly, but I guess these cutscenes were meant to add a bit more depth alongside Roy's one line, and act as a sort of build up to Cole's eventual adultery.

@@jackler4020 Ah I see, yeah that helps. Though I think they could have at least built up Cole’s family more, we never see them before or after the cheating is exposed, at least give us a reason to care.

20:14 I like how his cigar is stuck in his hand. Also I never understood why Cole would randomly cheat on his wife like that. This plot point always just sounded like bad writing for a reason to demote Cole tbh. Might as well had a twist that Cole was the one stealing the morphine as well with how much sense it makes for his character.

Yeah it’s a terrible plot twist and derails the games narrative. We see Elsa what, like three times before Cole cheats on his wife with her? We never saw Coles wife until the cutscene at the end of this mission.

It would've been forgive-able, even more interesting if they had a better focus on how much the police work and military service screwed with Cole's head. The only thing close to that we get is in one of the traffic cases, Cole is visibly stressed/upset that he had to shoot a hostage taker, but beyond that he has no reaction to the fact that he has to kill like 10 people a week lmao.

All I can say is.... yes It is also very disappointing and shows how bad RU-vid has gotten when you have to make parts of a video black and white because of video game blood, at least the black and white fits the noir

I remember being confused myself why Cole's cheating was such a big deal, but back then adultery was a felony (and still is in some states, though never enforced) punishable by large fines and years of jail time. The internal investigation process takes time, but Cole is facing serious criminal trouble. Add the post-war racism of the era, with the "golden boy" reputation of the decorated war vet sleeping with the enemy, and you've got yourself a huge scandal that the press really would be all over!

It's been a while for me but I don't think so! It's pretty abrupt. I guess the twist is that Cole is his own character in his offtime and you don't see that side of him as the player. We never even meet his family after all. Up to you whether you like that or not.@@Badifferent1

When I played this on my own I was convinced that Cole just went to her to interview her, maybe try do charm her and make her think he is interested to clear this case at all cost because fellow Marines and war buddies were dying. To think that he actually did sleep with this women out of nowhere.. When he still lived with his wife..! Where did that even come from? Also Mooney why do you wonder why a judge would use Morphine? Any person can become depressed and develop a drug habbit. Maybe sit a couple days in n american courtroom and see how miserable their day to day is. They have good perks and lots of people invite you to stuff.. But also perfectly understandable why someone like that would use. Most lawyers and judges spend a lot of time in bards.. So why be surprised if some prefer opioids over alcohol? Both are equally addictive and dangerous.

Yeah from the interview at the Blue Room there is nothing to suggest that Cole and Elsa are seeing each other so it does feel a bit out of the blue that the tail afterwards leads to them sleeping together. Maybe if Elsa had flirted with Cole throughout it and the player knew that things were a bit rocky between Cole and his wife it would feel a bit more expected.

Especially since seatbelts/lapbelts were basically unheard of in cars still at this time. Car makers didn't start to make them a standard part of vehicles until the late 1950's and they weren't mandatory in the US until Congress passed the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act in 1966.

YAS I’ve been waiting for LA Noire to return. I love this series so much. Mooney is now getting into the final section of the game where in my opinion, and in many peoples opinions, is where the game starts going off a cliff. 52:22 I hate this woman. HE SERVED IN THE FUCKING WAR! You having reporters on the front lawn is fucking nothing compared to what Cole saw in the war and what he’s seen in the LAPD.
