Oh my God! I'm Colombian and here in the country we remember this series with great affection. It was very successful here. A while ago I was shocked when I found out there were only 8 episodes. It's something I still can't believe. I was born in 1980 and I have memories of watching many episodes of manimal during the 80s when I was a child.... I can't believe that I spent so many years of my childhood watching only the only 8 episodes that existed. 😢😭
I actually liked this show when it was on. Some critics thought it was silly, a man/person changing into animal. Yet here we are today with mystique, a shape shifter on screen and everyone loves her character.
There was a bunch of short lived TV shows that were memorable like ManimaI. Automan was another show that didn't last, but made a lasting impression. Phoenix & The Powers of Matthew Star were others that would fit this bill as well. I would ❤ a Misfits of Science Complete Series DVD set.
Like Automan and Street Hawk, I remember watching this as a kid and being convinced it was on telly for years. And they all only manage a few episodes between 'em! Also. Go Flash Go!

@@geekmin-old Believe it or not, yes. :D Not the transformation effects, which were invariably recycled from episode to episode, but in terms of location shooting, stunts and the like, it was more costly than the low ratings could justify.
The show just never got sampled at all. Unlike "We Got It Made" and "The Yellow Rose" -- which were sampled and then spat out by NBC's viewers that fall (or "Bay City Blues," which famously bled viewers every single 15 minute increment) -- the viewers who showed up liked it enough to come back each week. It did a very consistent 10 rating through its entire run. That was, of course, terrible by 1983 standards. Let's just say nobody at the network thought it was the next "Hill Street Blues" or "Cheers," so it wasn't given the remotest of chances to grow.
Guys I noticed that the intro sequence on each episode of your dvd set has slightly skipped panther roar just as credits roll, whereas the fabulous films release doesn't, how come? Still, amazing work releasing this in NA, you guys are the best! ^^
There was The Aquarian which starred that one long haired blonde guy that was in everything back then. I think he player Khan’s son in Star Trek Wrath of Khan. There were two side by side robot cop shows at the same time. Supercop and Holmes and Yo-yo. The Logan’s Run spin-off show. And my personal favorite for possibly the worst SciFi show ever made, at least until we got H9meboys in Space… Qwark.
They apparently only really had a panther and an eagle on-hand for Manimal to change into, so pretty much every episode he'd panther/bird-up and go about his crime-fighting business. I doubt whether he ever became a hippo or a wallaby or a sloth, for instance. And of course he couldn't change into a bigfoot because that would be well out of (the natural) order.
I guess he was like Jayna from the Wonder Twins from the 80's Superfriends. She always transformed into an animal when she and her brother activated their Wonder Twin Powers.
----- @Remy Azhary Yosef ----- - Be very careful about what you wish for. There's a reason why we have the saying... "They just don't make 'em like they used to." Modern CGI and other types of modern special effects don't guarantee a success or even a great Movie/(TV-)Series, critics notwithstanding. -----
Ben Masters it’s possible. What I wonder is why are there differences in colour tones for transformations. For example, extended panther transformation from 1st ep is different in colour on broadcast version as opposed to dvd.
It's out on DVD?? WOW! Simon was born to play this role! Today's TV show actors? Meh! Anyone can replace anybody. They're all dull actors, boring and interchangeable for the most part.
one of the most popular tv show in indonesia on the late 80's. best regards from jakarta. indonesian culture very familiar about man turn to animal. in sumatera, we know about 'tujuh manusia harimau' (seven human tiger), a warrior. they turn to tiger when get mad. in java, we knows about 'babi ngepet' (babi: pig). man turn to pig for money and being rich. pig will shake the tail to the wall of people's house and the money will gone. for people in western country, this is nonsense, but not in indonesia.
