Manny Machado is the most hated player in all of MLB.
In summer of 2022, sports betting website BetOnline.ag conducted a poll to find out the most hated players in baseball. Unsurprisingly, San Diego Padres superstar Manny Machado took first place. Over the course of his career, Machado has developed a reputation as a lazy, selfish, overrated, dirty player who puts his own interests over the success of his team. But is it deserved?

Machado has been nothing but an absolute saint since coming to San Diego. He’s the leader of our team and he leads by example. Admittedly he was a bit immature in his early years but I’m not sure why people are still holding that against him? How is he more hated than everyone on the Astros or Garrett Cole or Trevor Bauer or even our other golden child Tatis? I don’t get it

Same kinda of hate as Harper got, both started playing in their early 20’s and we basically watch them grow up while playing the game, a majority of their immature mistakes coming in their early year, now both are the respective leaders of their ball clubs. I hated Many for a while but looking at it from this perspective changed things up.

But the the Astros win because they have professional players who play the right way, give full effort, and respect the game. Old news. Machado now a leader in SD. Harper had the reputation and has also outgrown it. Machado is consistent and is the only current player (besides Cabrera who already reached it) with a chance to reach 3k hits and 500 HRs. Think he’ll age better than Arenado, Trout and Betts over next 5 years. And, most importantly, he can be the guy to bring SD their first title.

While it's true that Machado has been a leader for the Padres since his arrival, let's not forget the impact that Harper has had on the league as a whole. That being said, Machado's consistency and potential milestones make him an exciting player to watch. And with his talent and work ethic, it's not hard to imagine him aging gracefully and maintaining his status as a top player in the next few years. As for bringing a championship to San Diego, Machado could definitely play a crucial role in making that happen. He's a fierce competitor who knows what it takes to win, and his leadership could inspire his teammates to give it their all. Overall, it's clear that Machado has a bright future ahead of him, both individually and as a member of the Padres.

I chalk up a lot of the early incidents to immaturity. I think he’s matured and grown as a person so I’m inclined to see him in a more positive light.

I hate when people don't say his full quote after he didn't run the play out to first. He said after “Should I have run on that pitch? Yeah … but I didn’t and I gotta pay the consequences for it. It does look bad. It looks terrible. I look back at the video and I’m like, ‘Woah, what was I doing?’ You know, just the emotions of the game … I’m the type of player that has stayed in the zone, I’m playing and I’m just in the zone." He was more mad at himself for grounding out on a 3-0 pitch.

3:50 so if Machado is a "dirty selfish player" for this...a player insisting on playing SS with below average defensive stats despite his team picking up a far superior defensive SS and forcing him over to 3B should be called the same.

@@foulball I still love watching him play. The Os needed to trade him because we already said that we weren’t going to sign him. It sucks that we needed to do that and it’s terrible that only one of the prospects from that trade did anything of note for us.
