Manor Lords is finally upon us, and this beginner's guide to the medieval city-builder should give you all the information you need to get off to a smooth start. Essential tips, tricks, and starting suggestions will give you a walkthrough of how you should start a game, giving tips on first steps, but then opening up with a broader beginner's guide to various key features and mechanics in the game. By the end of this video, you'll know the essentials of how to play Manor Lords. The game has more depth than first meets the eye with a variety of unique gameplay mechanics that we'll cover in this guide video as we showcase the gameplay features in great detail.

Thanks for the video! I couldnt find the info of how much the zone (Burgage?) of the House should be? does it affect anything? Should i make them as small as possible then, or do they scale somehow?

@@abadonael around 16:35 is where that gets explained for each of the different aspects - note in particular about the vegetable gardens and orchards, where bigger backyards means more yield, but also more time spent working in the backyard rather than regular job. Otherwise the backyard can be as small as you'd like, though if the plot is too small, you won't be able to build a backyard extension. Sometimes that's fine - it's really a matter of what you want and need from a specific house

Thank you for the video i bought the game yesterday in the late morning and before i knew it it was midnight. I dont know what i was doing wrong but i never seemed to have many eggs even though i invested a few houses to keep chickens in their back yard. Vegetables however i had in abundance.

This was really helpful! I always have issues producing enough food after I have around 70 population... Berries and Hunting won't suffice and Wheat-Flour-Bread production won't help much. Any advice on that?

My take: Time for Import game time via the Trading post. You should have good stock piles of resources, sell off excess for regional wealth and export it passively and import food to meet demands. 🤙

@@LarzBoss I second this. You should be able to determine what resources are very stockpiled to trade so you can buy your deficits, and even have enough resources to build farmlands in time for the upcoming seasonal harvest with items and families at the ready.

The extra house option you call rare, but it's up to you; if you hit the minus button to decrease total number of plots in the area, it usually means they all get a bonus house

From watching your play, ive fallen in love with the way this game looks. Had to buy it, lol, wondering if you have a "thats too far" point on resouces when you start. Like animals and berrys on opposite ends of the region and low land fertility. Even though the resources are "large"

Food ends up being easy to maintain during the winter , it's fuel that burns fast. It's detrimental to start those crops in June and harvest in September because if not your forced to live off of berries and deer which at first is manageable with a low pop but after the first winter bread and other goods are a must

Great guide! I surprised myself, I was able to figure-out most of this myself, but I still learned a few good tidbits. One thing I’m a bit disappointed in is how ‘easy’ it is to re-assign families. The longer a family is assigned to a particular job, the better they should get at it. T1 jobs are ‘simple’ enough that anyone should be able to do it, yes. So, there shouldn’t be a *penalty* for assigning a random person to a task. But there should be a *bonus* for refraining from re-assignment. Whom are going to be the better farmers? The family doing so for multiple seasons, or the family in their first season? Really hope that this gets added. If it isn’t already in-game (as some sort of ‘hidden’ mechanic) then it needs to be more quantifiable. Could even work surnames into it! ‘Smith,’ ‘Baker,’ etc. Anyways, apologies for the rant, cheers man, you got yourself a new subscriber. Really enjoyed your clear yet calm narration!

I'm quite new to strategy games and city builders, but decided to go in blind anyway and just test for an hour. I think I did quite well, occasionally reaching 100% approval. But when I looked at the clock, that hour had turned into 5 😅 Seems like an amazing game and I can't wait to continue tonight! And quite a few of the tips given here will definitely be helpful!

Thanks for the video! I’m having issues regarding wheat harvests. Even if I enable field rotation and establishing fields in fertile areas, harvests are really low, and actually at some points they just go to 0. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

does the hitching post need a family? i have one assigned but its only the son who does anything (guides the ox), the husband does nothing all day. the wife fetches water and things

When you need to use it for dedicated specific work you are focusing on, yes. Else, it's a floater for whatever transport needed for constructing or transport is needed for said wood. As noted, get more than one oxen and one is for Timber, and that should resolve most thjings in your beginning game growth. AS you need more and more things transported, then you upgrade to said stable, etc.

Be sure to always have at least two oxen, especially when you don't have any passive income yet. I just had to reset a game because my initial ox died under mysterious circumstances.

Do you need an extra hitching point if you asign an ox to a specifick industrie? If you cant grow barley, yeah you can buy some. But if you don't buy, can your house go to lvl 3? I've noticed that you need to put mines exact on top of the icon, or is it just me thinking so? Great game, can't wait till next updates.

For me Manor Lords is a kind of better "Foundation" since there you have to assign community members aswell but there is no real combat. It really reminds me of that game. I'm still doing not very well in ML but im getting there and i kind of love the trail and error learning experience. Everey new playthrough starts a bit smoother and my people last longer.

How does the size of the plot extension effect the output of the good it produces later? It is optimal to make plots with a housing extension (potential for extra home, higher density than typical plots), and as small as a plot extension (used for goods, excluding veggy garden) as possible?

I did ok with the economy in my first run-through but got crushed by the baron over my second claim (he had about 4). I had 5 units but he had bought up all the mercs which doubled his army. So some tips on that would be helpful.

Will industrial workers only get raw mats from storage houses and granaries? Or can they also get from nearby local storages of gathering houses like logger's camps or hunters camps
