I believe the major concern with Militia was you can only have 6 units of your own units. So if you get Retinue before you setup Militia you're capped by the Retinue. So in your case you could create only 4 Militia units since you have 2 Retinue. But if you setup all 6 before you make any Manors, then you're set to get the 6 + Retinue. You can hire Mercenaries above that amount anytime.

I am glad it helped you out! I am working on a video for the pack stations right now. They allow you to trade/barter between regions you control. Very helpful if used correctly.
the problem with me is, i cant do anything because im in a constant debt from the royal tax, additionally, if i tax my populous too much they will get mad so theres nothing i can do

a retinue of 12 men can defeat the brigand camps. 10 probably can, but it may take casualties. but 12, even without the armor upgrade can take them out without any casualties.
Its is possible to reform a all dead army of retinues? In my save, a troop of retinue is always grey on the armys interface and I cant click on it to hire.
click on your manor and click 'open castle planer' and build the tower that says it extends retinue by 12. re-watch the vid if you're confused he mentioned it.
only sort of. If they come to you equipped with a polearm, you can switch their weapon between a verity of polearms. If they come to you equipped with a sidearm, you can switch their weapon between a verity of sidearms. But what you can't do is switch from a sidearm to a polearm and vise versa.
@@spamfilter32 That's right. Retinue will always be equipped with an assortment of polearms, as well as shields and sidearms. And it will always be mixed.
@geminiblue6677 From what I have gleaned, polearms are stronger against plate armor. But it is possible side arms are similarly strong against plate armor? The War Hammer came into popular use at this time because of plate armor, and sword designs changed to sharper points to exploit the chinks in plate armor. Polearm militia gut a charge bonus as well as doing more damage to plate armored enemies. I don't know if that applies to the retinue, though.
