Manpig Visual Novel Review: Tsukihime

Type-Moon, a company now very well-known worldwide for their massive Fate franchise, what started the company's popularity? Well, it was none other than a simple, unassuming visual novel about a boy with the ability to see death.

For me it is Nasu's greatest piece of work, and the best visual novel I have read. 10 years ago I was on a holiday week and went through the whole thing in one marathon. Uniquely implemented vampire theme and addicting way of writing. Each route has you at the back of your seat guessing the villain and upcoming events. The characters are amazing, also Arcueid best girl. I think there are versions of the game on internet that have H-scenes cut (and you can of course skip them normally as well), so this should be no issue for readers who want to avoid them. As Manpig stated, you will miss a few notes on the maids but people absolutely should not be deterred by that from the whole experience. Tsukihime well deserves a remake and/or another sequel. From my fanboy point of view, in addition to the great story and characters, the game still has charming old doujin vibe which makes it very enjoyable even with it's technical limitations. But still, a remake would invigorate the lesser known side of T-M for new and old fans alike.

Tsukihime... I LOVE this VN & its subseries. My first step into the Nasuverse 14 years ago & haven't regretted it since! I started with the manga, got tired of waiting for the new volumes, so I downloaded the VN. For me, Tsukihime was a turning point; I don't think it was my first one, but it's the one that affected me the most & set my standards high when it comes to storytelling & writing. It's one hell of an experience from start to finish & the great moments are those that I will never forget. Great video, Manpig! Subscribed.

Manping, dude, a solid 10/10 for your review. In my opinion, you have covered and introduced all the aspects of the visual novel without spoiling anything too deep, making possible for newcomers to get a general idea of it and for old players like myself to quickly (and WAY TOO GOOD) enjoy the moments of the game again. Tsukihime for me has been the highlight of all media content I've alredy consumed. Thanks for the video man!! Keep up the good work.

If you really love Tsukihime and its characters and just can't get enough of it, then I'd highly recommend reading the Take Moon manga. It's a comedy and SOL manga and boy is it funny (most of the Tsukihime sections of Carnival Phantasm were actually adapted from that manga). If you'd like to see the Tsukihime characters interact with other TM characters, then the All Around Typemoon manga will be right up you're alley. Both manga have solid art and are pretty hilarious, and let's be honest,... you can never get enough of Tsukihime.

Man I remember playing Tsukihime for the first time a year ago and falling in love with every single character on it, not to mention the "sequel" Kagetsu Tohya introducing new characters especially Len although the mechanic of the game can be confusing af unlike the sucessor Hollow Ataraxia that refined those mechanic. As for the review is good enough although the first 6 minutes of the review I thought you were gonna talk about Nasuverse in general instead. Can't wait for another VN review, maybe next time will be Kagetsu Tohya?

I read Tsukihime because I was a fan of the Melty Blood fighting game. I always thought Hisui and Kohaku's personalities in the fighting game were made like that to be some sort of comedic relief for the other, more serious characters. Oh boy was I wrong. There's a new Melty Blood coming out soon and seeing Kohaku as the cheery maid that she is just breaks my heart.

Oh, boy... so much to say that I have no idea where to begin. I had been consuming VNs like water for years before I somehow stumbled upon Tsukihime way back when the last patch versions came out around 2005~2006. Ever since I got a taste of it, I became a TYPE-MOON fan and I have been ever since. As for your review, I liked it, but I would recommend making either a spoiler section or another video talking more in-depth about stuff that the spoiler-free version didn't cover, because it feels a bit shallow otherwise. Yeah, I know the video is almost 30min long as it is, but still, as someone who played it, that is how it makes me feel... but for the people who don't like spoilers or want to play it, I guess it's okay (just not enough for me, I guess). I get what were you trying to do by not spoiling more than the intro, but not talking more in-depth about such a piece of art is doing it a disservice imho. Also, since you showed interest in Key VNs. I vote for Little Busters! Yeah, Kanon, Air, CLANNAD and Planetarian are really good, but Little Busters is really close to my heart and underappreciated in comparison for some reason. I highly recommend it if you haven't played it yet. They are making a Planetarian prequel and OVA set to release this year btw. ...and in case you are curious, a friend introduced me to VNs by giving me a "Watashi ni Kon'ya☆Ai ni Kite" CD way back in the day. You can make the math too see how long I have been playing VNs. lol PS. I am still really hurt by the lack of Sacchin route. She was the first one I was aiming for when I started playing it blind for the first time. ;www; ... and if it wasn't enough for TYPE-MOON to hurt me once, they also cut Illya's route! They hurt me not once, but twice! orz

Keep in mind that Tsukihime was written by Nasu more than 20 years ago, whe he was in College. His head nowadays evolved, and he professed he heavely changed the remake after writting FGO for so many years to the point it will becloser to a reimagine that is better adapted to the new image of type-moon. While some old guards show derision for this I prefer to think of it as Tsukihime chance to ride the Fate coat tail until it also can become its own main bransh of the Nasuverse, like the DC to Fates Marvel. This is clearly Nasu's ideal so don't resent the retcons that are inbound, F/SN purists had to deal with the same.

Uh...i never liked so much tsukihime. For me the novel is about 7/10. A really overrated work from Nasu ( Kinoko nasu, that lacks really much in licterature and other cultural reference) often Nasu's writing style is heavy (as always) and there are dead moments (like those at school) and he dwells too much on irrelevant details. The main character (Shiki) story is full of cliches and he's basically an asshole. arcueid is overrated at extreme levels. is the stereotype of the vampire harem who attaches himself to a guy who killed her once making her lose part of her power and who could do it again (and already from here we understand that she is an idiot) behaves in a hateful way like a child, constantly torments everyone. in a word: it is unbearable. (and there are characters who behave like children like Rikka, but they are not annoying like her) the rape scene is the most strange thing aside and I still don't understand why Arcueid is with what raped her. I never liked vampire philosophy of nasuverse. Vampires represent 2 things in licterature: the dead who comes back to life, and that can ruin the life of someone who go on. A wife who know that her husband married another woman, a child murdred by his parents... -the istincts: dracula was made in victorian era, one of the most sexual repressing period. Vampires gives pleasure when they bite the victims, that are girls most of the times, and a vampire's bite is much compared with sex or rape. In tsukihime, vampires are only zombies most of the times, and the few vampires who actually speech says bullshit like "If cows and fish will talk do you still eat them?" having removed the fucking vampire, we move on to really interesting characters such as the maids, Ciel and Akiha. despite the route of Ciel is recycled and contains moments a lot of cringe I liked a lot, and they finally deepened the church. akiha, in addition to being the best girl in the game and having the best route, poses interesting philosophical ideas on the family and much more. the route of the Maid (both) are interesting until the final twist. The drawings are ugly. And when i means ugly i mean that are really ugly. Failed proportions and anatomy, flat colors, backgrounds that are basically monochrome. it is a novel that should be read as a study on nasuverse, not for anything else the story is really interesting from the route of heaven onwards, and probably, if the true ancestors created such a powerful and uncontrollable weapon, they deserved to be killed, natural selection. if the remake corrects these things well ... otherwise we will have the same thing but in better graphics.
@pollypow2576
@pollypow2576 4 года назад

The only thing I've seen of Tsukihine is the (non-existant) anime, and I remember being quite invested into it. I could hardly understand it though, not sure because of dubbing or subbing, or the fact that I was a child who didn't understand a lot of things, but either way, I watched it to the end and I liked it. On another hand, I can understand the un appeal of it. It's fine that you dont like it, an opinion is an opinion and while I may hope to buy and go through the Tsukihime with better understanding, I can see your points - except for the vampire argument. I don't think it's fair to say what a vampire should be. Granted, I do agree that vampires ought to be as they are originally interpreted, scary, sensual yet clearly dangerous, as I think that makes them the best vampire, being monsters - but I'm also biased. I think anyone is free to interpret any monster and creatures, give them new shape or rules and so on, creative reign. Of course, you dont have to enjoy them, it's fine to not be impressed or intrigued. I think its more so to accept them as a different world, different rules kind of deal, but otherwise, I too also would see something and think that they could be better, but I think they should inspire us in our own ideas and interpretations. I think it's cool to see how differently vampires are in this world, to some extent anyhow.
