Tohno Shiki, a boy who acquires the ability to see the death in all things. Such a power leads him to become involved with a vampire wrecking havoc on the town. What follows is a thrill of an urban mystery, broaching the flaws hidden in all creation. A story of how fragile our existence is, but does that equate to meaninglessness?

Tsukihime is one of the most special stories out there IMO because it really changed my perspective on the power of stories and a grand vision. Nasu gave such an immersing world told through intricate writing, but stuff like the charming character and powerful atmosphere. This really is a one of a kind story. Your video has done an amazing job highlighting all of this, seriously I am amazed at how high effort your video is, which makes sense knowing just how much time you sunk into it. Amazing work my man!

It truly is! the characters are all so lovable in both personality and philosophy while all tied into the narrative's central theme. It's such a powerful story and has elevated my own outlook on life and people in general. The remake really boosted my love for the Near Side which makes me excited to see how the Far Side is going to go. Hisui's route is going to be insane! Thank you so much! My love for it helped push me to the end and seeing your comment makes it all worthwhile. it means a lot!

Godlike edit. Tsukihime is really just an unbelievable experience. Can't hype it up enough to do it justice. Support it when it globally releases in 2024 people.

I think it would be neat to have a story in the tsukihime world where a normal guy tries not to be normal and trys to get super powers.

I recall one story from Kagetsu Tohya where one girl became a ghoul and somehow her sanity remained intact and hated committing atrocities and was ultimately killed by Shiki.

Excellent work on detailing the Arcueid and Ciel routes for the remake. It's making me excited to play this and Red Garden once it comes out. It's definitely making me hoping for a lot more Tsukihime stories once they get released. As you were wrapping up your review, I was listening to Space Lion from the Cowboy Bebop OST and a lot of emotions were coming through that reminded me of how powerfully emotional a story like Tsukihime is. Keep it up!

The Tsukihime side of things has a lot of potential for stories with the DAAs or Shiki after the events of Tsukihime, I'm right there with you hoping for more after Red Garden. How the story tackles its themes of life and death are beautiful, while being a amazing thrill ride. Good taste btw, Space Lion is such a good track. Thank you, I'll keep at it!

Honestly its hard to choose the most special between KnK, TsukiRe, Mahoyo, TnS and FHA for me. This is what Mushroom man is best at. Always was... With 'the power of stories'. But what he truly did is forced me to remember how much love i have for Tsukihime with what it represents, so that it once again stands on top not only with best Type-Moon, or specifically Nasu works, but as whole is a contender for one of the best story telling media pieces ever made. I too now come to believe that everyone can find something that can affect their perspectives on some things, even if just a bit, with Tsukihime narrative design and themes. And it truly is unique experience of a story in its path with how it is lairs to what is on the surface, timeless, just like the moon, like all amazing fiction is.

I really understand how you feel there! All them are heartfelt tales about humanity from the whole to the individual. What is so fascinating about them is how they make full use of the VN medium to explain these ideas and show its main theme from different perspectives. I know through these stories I've certainly looked at life differently, and for the better. Like Tsukihime plays with the theme of how life itself is fragile and everything living, will one day die, but instead of that knowledge holding you back, as long as you can enjoy the moments of your life moment by moment, you shouldn't fear death, instead appreciate the life you have. Seeing Shiki embrace this philosophy in spite of his condition just makes him such a lovable character and drives home the heart of Tsukihime! All of these stories are written to remain vivid in our hearts!

@@NeNeiSan And we talking about it that's just in time for Persona 3 Reload, huh. Its all connected in the world of fiction by how the writers are essentially. Love it. Atlus's Director Hashino team Studio 0(being the original team behind original P3 and p3FES) is amazing, im really looking forward to their Metaphor ReFantazio too, as it got the same premises about the stories (in addition to how it plays on "facing your fears" like Hashino said) in the meta sense it seems.

For me it's easy: Mahouyo >>> KnK/Tsuki No Sango >>> Old school Fate (FSN/FHA) >>> Fate/Zero (despite the inconsistencies with FSN) >>>>>>>>> Everything Else from TM. Plus Persona 3 Reload is a great Remake because IT IS a proper Remake. It gives you everything OG Persona 3 gave you and more. It even fixes flaws of the OG. And the Answer will release this year as DLC. The only arguable flaws are that the presentation is too P5-esque and some songs don't hit as hard as the OGs. Plus FemC not being included is a bummer. But that is trivial compared to how Tsukihime Remake is different from the OG VN. Tsukihime Remake is more like Rebuild of Evangelion or FF7 Remake. I wouldn't even call these things Remakes but rather official fanfiction. Anno really ruined the Anime industry with his Rebuild experiment. At least as far as Remakes and Reboots are concerned.

One thing that I find interesting about the world of tsukihime is the how unfair the power system is some people are born with the aptitude to use supernatural powers and some are not and are forbidden from even knowing supernatural Powers exists. I think it would be interesting to have a story set in the same world as tsukihime that focuses more on how unfair the power system is like for example a story where someone discovers the supernatural and the tries as hard as they can to get super powers despite finding out early on it's probably impossible for them to actually get any superpowers yet trying to anyway. I think a story like that could be really interesting and would probably work well as a visual novel as well as highlighting the unfairness of the power system.

The world of Type-Moon really has so much potential for stories of that nature, and to a certain degree some stories do kind of flirt with it (like Soujyuurou in Mahoyo), but never with the protag being completely powerless. There is so much more that can be explored in this universe and hope we get some more variety down the line. I would be interested in a story like that!

The regard and praise you have for it is well deserved! Tsukihime set a really good example of how a remake of a classic should be. You can tell how Nasu not only wanted to improve upon his old story writing wise, but mold it into something more expansive while carrying the essence of what Tsukihime is at its core. All of the characters I could write on and on about because there is so much depth, relatability, and meaning to them! There is a clear improvement in Nasu's writing quality that makes it exciting to see what else he will write in the future. For me, I can't quite decide what my favorite Type-Moon work is. Almost all of them have touched my heart in some way and depending on the day any of them may qualify for that "top spot" lol. The editing is all thanks to just how many assets TsukiRE's has! I wanted to test myself with all these and I could not be more happier that it was enjoyed! Thank you! It's amazing to think that this is only a half of what Nasu has in store for the remake. With all the small bits of foreshadowing for the far side routes, I could not be more excited to see what he has planned. Let's hope we get an announcement in the coming year!

The length is one thing that I'm very curious about for Red Garden. The original far side routes were a bit shorter in comparison, but with Satsuki's route, and the fact we don't know how much Nasu is going to shake up the Tohnos' story with the addition of the Gotous and Arach, it could be a bit longer. Also because there are some theories that there is going to be some sort of extended ending to Arc's route alongside the epilogue. It's going to be interesting to see when it comes out! Thank you so much again! Knowing that this could be a source of enjoyment to people, and that you can take something from it makes all the work worth it in the end!

I would recommend to you the vn white album 2, probably my favourite romance of all time and one that competes for my fave vn in general with Fata Morgana, muv luv and umineko. My actual favourite story of all time though is a book series called “malazan book of the fallen”, it’s probably far longer than any series you have ever read considering it takes about 400 hours to read all the books but it is a love letter to humanity, the good and the bad. No series has made me think or feel more and due to the author never really bothering to explain things properly to you unless absolutely necessary so it’s got a great mystery aspect to it. The first book is by far the weakest though and throughout the whole series there are about 3000 characters with 450 of them being Pov (point of view) characters which isn’t to everyone’s taste but I would have around 75-85 of my top 100 characters from malazan.
@danielgwynne7266
@danielgwynne7266 7 месяцев назад
Every chapter of malazan has an epigraph at the start which will be a poem or excerpt from a quote in world book and this is one you can read without spoilers. “There is something profoundly cynical, my friends, in the notion of paradise after death. The lure is evasion. The promise is excusative. One need not accept responsibility for the world as it is, and by extension, one need do nothing about it. To strive for change, for true goodness in this mortal world, one must acknowledge and accept, within one's own soul, that this mortal reality has purpose in itself, that its greatest value is not for us, but for our children and their children. To view life as but a quick passage alone a foul, tortured path - made foul and tortured by our own indifference - is to excuse all manner of misery and depravity, and to exact cruel punishment upon the innocent lives to come. I defy this notion of paradise beyond the gates of bone. If the soul truly survives the passage, then it behooves us - each of us, my friends - to nurture a faith in similitude: what awaits us is a reflection of what we leave behind, and in the squandering of our mortal existence, we surrender the opportunity to learn the ways of goodness, the practice of sympathy, empathy, compassion and healing - all passed by in our rush to arrive at a place of glory and beauty, a place we did not earn, and most certainly do not deserve.”

This is series completely changed me as a person for the better and ind the conveyed its themes to me so well and with soo many of them that in that aspects it truly is in a league of its own for me. There is a big gap between by no1 and no2 favourite story. The series is also divided into multiple subsection and the story which everyone should read first is about half of it. Books also switch continents too and as such you are introduced to a brand new cast of characters 3x times in books 1, 2 and 5 with only like 2 characters that carry over to them. The other series in the universe also visit 3 other continents too.

Both White Album VNs look very interesting and are on my plan to read! Wow. Honestly, from how you described Malazan I am very interested in checking it out just to see how a narrative of that scale is done is written. 400 hours?! That is 4 times longer than the longest series I have read (being Umineko at around 100-120 hours). Though for the scale of the story, it sounds entirely justified for it to be as long as it is. Having something span years and sea, tying it all with deeply human themes I can imagine how emotionally gripping it can get. Your passion it clear! I would love to get the chance to at least get a feel for it!

And yet all the new lore, inconsistent writing and cringe try hard attempts of comedy drag it all down for me. Imo the original did a better job in communicating its themes. The Remake blows every minor event (french incident, Roa's current incarnation of Souya) into an epic tale, it's ridiculous. The tone is completely inconsistent. The original was somber through and through. Even comedy was sparse and subdued. In Remake the tone jumps from dark to funny so often it's jarring. Best example is the Shiki protects Ciel from Arcueid scene. The antagonists are laughable: Roa isn't a DAA tier threat anymore despite seeking out Arcueid to become the strongest DA was his original goal. Remake says he originally wanted to record/witness human history yet partakes in rituals that endanger the human species. Arcueid is a dumb yandere wench that wants to torture the only person (Shiki) she genuinely liked over a petty love drama. Noel is just a split off from OG Ciel that is as unlikable as Shinji Matou. And her only purpose is character development for the vanilla-af Remake Ciel. The only decent antagonist was Vlov. Unfortunately he gets squandered because Nasu uses him as a throwaway midboss like Nrvnqsr in the OG. And don't get me started on Far Side. Thanks to the Saikis, Arach and the supposed ritual teased in Remake we can safely assume Remake Far Side will be VERY different than OG Far Side. Great Idea! Let's muddle the best three routes of OG completely and throw in the Vampire chuuni nonsense from Near Side. OG Tsukihime was about showcasing the meaning of our fragile existence via the conflict between immortal vampires, a practically immortal vampire huntress, a dysfunctional yokai family with a protagonist constantly knocking in the door to death or insanity. As far as I can see Remake is about some weird vampires trying to destroy the world and Shiki+girl needs to stop them. Honestly Remake isn't Tsukihime, but FGO with a Tsukihime skin.
@NeNeiSan
@NeNeiSan 4 месяца назад
That's very fair, it certainly takes on a whole new style that I've seen quite some criticism towards. It's two different takes that clearly shows the difference in Nasu who has changed over the years. Ultimately coming down to expectation and preference in the story design. I actually like this makes it so the Remake doesn't invalidate the old experience and actually gives reason to read both. The evevated stakes certainly take away the claustrophobic and personal appeal, but I feel did a good job at keeping the core of things in tact. It's two different styles and completely makes sense why it would be off putting if that somber atmosphere was a main draw. The characters for instance I thought were handled way better, with an additional human layer added to each. In Roa's case, his disinterest in the individual, but cherishment for humanity as a whole drove his his desire for immortality. From his view, the suffering of a minority his actions caused doesn't matter if it means he can prolong being humanity's overseer. This also further ties his love, hate, and jealosy towards Arcueid later on through emotions twisting and wishing to be that "ultimate being." For Arcueid, Shiki was the first one in all her life that gave feeling to her numbness of being no more than a weapon to those around her. To then have that everything snatched away, by one of the people she hated most no less, is sure to set her off. With this onset of feelings being so sudden, she never had the oppurtunity to mature and control those emotions in a way that seems fitting. Her mental maturity can kind of be seen similar to a child. A child that has wayyy to much power and is driven to take back what she wants. Noel is a thematic pillar to the route's theme of salvation, how following a path of indulgent dark desires in a mistaken attempt to be saved will only cause you to go further off that path. She was actually one of my favorite additions due to how well her unlikable, yet human characteristics were played up, while the ever-twisting complex emotions that plague her as a result of her past and current circumstances make her hatred and viciousness understandable. Vlov I really wish we get more of in some form or fashion. In the short amount of screentime he had, was pretty well built up and characterized. There just needs to be some decent tie into the main themes that can make him special. The changes here I feel places a greater emphasis on the "humanity" in this supernatrual phenomenon , which is something Nasu has shifted towards since the OG Tsukihime days. Although I personally felt the themes of the OG were much more nuanced and pronounced here with its deeper character exploration. That's one thing about the Far Side I'm sceptical about. By expanding the narrative beyond just the immediate Tohno family/manor with Arach and the Gotous, it might again take away that enclosed, personal feeling that makes the Red Side so special- not just in theme, but style as well. It could be the case that the vampire Arach stuff only bleeds into Satsuki's route and the Gotos are the only addition to the far side, which would probably only serve to deepen the Tohno families ties. I'm hoping the Goto stuff stays to just Akiha's route if they do play a major part, but with the added foreshadowing with Kohaku and Mio I want to see how its handled before making judgements. That said, your critisms understandable. A lot of this seems like a fundamental shift in how Nasu wants to write and convey his ideas, which are far different from his early 2000's writing.
@justasoulsfan9805
@justasoulsfan9805 4 месяца назад
@@NeNeiSan So what you want to convey is that the Remake cast has their flaws and negative characters traits more on display. And this strengthens how Nasu conveys it's themes? Plus the Remakes approach is simply how Nasu developed over the years? While the latter one is VERY agreeable for me, I must say that I am not a fan of Nasu's development retarding the high stakes and epic fights. Because it doesn't feel earned most of the time and more like Nasu & Takeuchi just want to flex their muscles to make it as close to the Ufotable Adaptations as possible. I also didn't like this in FGO. The reason why I like Mahouyo so much is because it struck the perfect balance between chuuni action and mundane slice of life. As for the first thing. The added "humanity" as you called it. I see where you come from. But I can't share the same sentiment as you on a personal level. While you may be right about the added flaws bringing more nuance to the situation and deepen the meaning the story wants to convey, it doesn't work for me at all. Or it would be more accurate to say that the cast of Remake won depth but sacrificed likability in my book. Remake Shiki is miles better than his original counterpart. I don't know if it's because of the seiyuu but he feels much more of a person than in OG, although he's way too horny for my taste. But the characters he interacts with are very unlikable to me. Arihiko, Satsuki, Akiha and the maids are fine. But that is mainly because we haven't gotten to their routes yet. But the other characters... Arcueid is mostly intact in her Route but Ciel's Route turns her into an unlikable wench for me. I get the reason for it yet it makes it so jarring after reading the Arcueid route, the manga and OG Near Side first. Arcueid feels like a different character in Remake Ciel's Route. I already wrote that Noel is unlikable as Shinji Matou. And Ciel is plain boring now. Not to mention that she doesn't feel like she's the heroine of the Route because a lot of focus is given to Arcueid and Noel. I don't have much to say about the Saikis outside of being mysterious. Mario and his entourage kind of feels superfluous for me and Mario being so foul-mouthed feels over the top. As if Nasu wanted to redo Hans Christian Anderson. And Dr. Arach is just...hell no... Vlov was cool but he also feels kind of generic as a white hair anime vampire. I would put it like this: Nasu replaced the knock-off of Hellsing Alucard (Nrvnqsr was voiced by Jouji Nakata and his Soil of Genesis/Chaos was similar to Alucard's zero release and soul absorbtion) with a knock-off of Castlevania Alucard (stoic white haired anime vampire with a sword). So if most characters our MC interacts with are bland or unlikable it makes it frustrating to follow them on their adventure. Because you don't like them you don't care about their survival. And both OG Arcueid and OG Ciel might not be as fleshed out as their Remake counterparts or the FSN cast...but they were compelling enough that I wanted them to get a happy ending. Whereas in Remake... I literally don't care if Shiki, Arcueid, Ciel etc. die in the bad ends. Except Arcueid's "death" in her own Route (final confrontation with Roa). But that was due to how hard the Remake Arcueid route clinged to the old script anyways. If I compare this with Mahouyo for example...it's the opposite. Aoko is a total b*tch a lot of the time and Alice is cold and distant. You really can empathize with poor Soujuurou who is "forced" to live with these witches under one roof for months. But then they start to come closer and form bonds. They become more considerate to each other. And all of this leads to a wonderful climax where Aoko finally faces her fear and activate the fifth sorcery to save Soujuurou and stop Touko. And that after Soujuurou comes to their aid twice. It's a very good climax in all aspects. Thematically, emotionally and with good action on top of that. Tsukihime Remake might hit the note thematically. But emotionally and in terms of action? Idk. I already wrote that the cast is either bland or unlikable to me. As for action...the Remake has epic moments. But the pacing is awful for me. It reminds me of Mahouyo chapter 5a and 5b (basically the fight against the Aoko puppet and Flat Snark). My least favorite chapters of Mahouyo. The ideas behind these fights are clear. But it DRAGS on for hours. No matter how epic the climax is (f.e. Aoko kame-hame-has the moon and "Show time kyuuketsuki!") if I have to wait for hours on end for it to happen and it being executed it makes me wish to move on and getting annoyed.
@NeNeiSan
@NeNeiSan 4 месяца назад
Its mostly what part of them was fleshed out and how that further plays into the theme and cast dynamic. A lot of this, I feel, is just a fundamental difference in what we get out it. A lot of the stuff you mention, while I can see where your dislike comes from, I found to actually cause me to become more attached to the cast as a whole. Roa was not one I cared much for prior, with the Remake being the reason I now hold some interest in his character and wonder for his potential role in Red Garden. I'm most likely in the minority on this, but even when it is objectively dragged out, I don't mind slow or stagnate plot progression. As long it has variety in the scenarios and character interactions, it's welcome- of course this depends on the execution. If its done right, I hardly even notice the time fly by; only realizing when I end my reading session and get shocked at the time. For example: The Vlov fight. Progress was certainly slow, however Shiki's mental process whilst dancing with Vlov on the verge of death was very engaging. It could not be more different than the Nero fight, which I prefer much more, however itself was able to show more of Arcueid and Shiki in a teamwork dynamic. Further showing the inhuman side to Arcueid and, as a result, the contrast in her everyday attitude when not killing vampires. The more subdued "action" sequences fit much more in line with Tsukihime as a whole, but by adjusting expectations and looking at it as its own thing, I had a great time!
