Type-Moon, A well known name within both the Anime and Visual Novel Industries. With their many success with Kara No Kyoukai, Tsukihime, and the countless Fate entries, how did they reach such a renowned status?
It truly is a new era for Type-Moon nowadays, with all four major entries of TM now brought back into the limelight, I'm so excited. I'm praying for a MahoHako and Girls' Work revival, even if chances for both are slim
The sudden announcement of a Mahoyo adaptation and re-release for the VN, gave me much more hope for the future. Shining some light on Girls' Work would be great, the limited plot synopsis on the wiki seems like it could be pretty interesting. I completely forgot about MahoHako, I remember reading the manga for it some time ago, though I have forgotten a majority of what it was about. I might have to give that another look. There is so many possibilities that have opened up. It would be nice to see a new entry to the Nasuverse as well!
I remember back when we were trying to decipher images from a picture of Kiyobee's work from the Type-Moon museum cause we thought they related to Tsukihime Remake, it's insane how much copium that fans of the greater Nasuverse had until that Tsukihime Remake reveal. I remember the announcement and how hype it was experiencing it live.
Nothing will beat watching the 2021 FGO New Year's Livestream and seeing the TsukiRE's trailer as its end. More than a decade's worth of hype and anticipation had culminated up to that moment for an amazing reveal! I remember seeing those posts every now and then, so glad it came to be!
I only got into this a year or two ago so I can't relate to feeling salty about Fate dominance, but I think it's safe to say the rest of the Franchise is revived. Aoko is back in the Mahoyo movie, voiced VN, Melty, and she had a cameo in the new Case Files special all in one day.
Even though I haven't read it yet, I'm glad to see all the attention given to Mahoyo these past few months. Can't wait for the full translation patch coming!
"Starting in 2006, the first notable adaptation" Don't think I didn't see what you see there xD Great video! I hope to see fire girl and girls work before I die
Thanks for making this video. It’s so rare to see type-moon content that’s not fate being made. nowadays. Well this is probably just the English /international community whereas in the East (Japan,China) where I can find lots of video covering underrated under-appreciated works like Kara no Kyoukai. Maybe it’s just that the English fan base that just cares about fate related contents.
My Pleasure! I'm a huge fan of Type-Moon and when I can, want to spread the word about these gems that go under the radar. Out of most of Type-Moon works, I feel that Fate has to be the one with the more interesting and unique premises, drawing in a lot wider audience. The accessibility as well is something that played a huge part of its renown. With visual novels being extremely niche, no translation for them(at the time), a poor(nonexistent) adaptation of Tsukihime, and a movie series that appeals to a very specific audience, Fate started out as something people could flock to. It's sad though, to see such gems go unnoticed.
Wow you must've put a lot of effort researching this video. It's not much but take my like&sub. I know your channel is going to grow as Tsukihime gains popularity.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! It definitely took me a while, digging through certain sites and interviews to make sure I could get as much details as possible.
@@NeNeiSan Its absolutly amazing, one of the best and most complex (in terms of narrative structure, prose, metaphores and Japanese) Nasu writing to date probobly (on par with his KnK, Mahoyo, TnS and F/HA parts) and one of my favorite Nasu works for sure. DDD simingly set in its own universe (in which Nasu uses meta writing & joke references to confuse readers), but with amount of Type-Moon history callbacks & connections from Nasu mind and not explored lore in released 2 LN volumes it easly could join Nasuverse just with new few volumes if Nasu wanted it. The lore left behind the scene has so much potential to bring these new 2 volumes on really high level of interest and enjoyment. The story and main characters is really unique (Arika especially as MC, one of the best Nasu protags for sure), exploring many different themes at the same time, for example more close look into mental health from Nasu perspecrive and of course the nature of Demons of all kinds. So, if you earning for something like KnK but different at the same time now its your work to go period. Its also such crazy re-visit value work for which i come back time and time again finding something new and really interesting while enjoying its characters and atmoshere that like other Nasu works has its own vibe that hard to describe just with words. So yeah, personally i absolutly love it, this is my jam from Nasu lol.
Such a great video! I've been a TM fan only since 2020 so I can't relate to the long wait for more content outside Fate, but it feels so good to be a part of this fandom, we've got great things coming! I'm sure of it
I am only a year behind you, I got into Fate (and shortly after the rest of TM's works) late 2019! With Mahoyo having an English release last December, the upcoming English TL for Tsukihime Remake, and with how far FGO has improved its story, it feels good to be a fan. Thank you!
Interesting to watch this now after the announcement of a remaster for mahoyo coming out with voice acting this later this year. My assumption being this might be the catalyst for the infamous mahoyo 2 someday if it does well. Seems like the perfect time to be a TM fan even with dedication of two teams working to translate tsukire and mahoyo into English which I also believe could release later this year. Makes me glad I sunk hours upon hours last year on nasu's visual novels. Edit : I completely forgot about the movie too, which definitely will help boost intrigue for mahoyo.
A perfect time to be a TM fan indeed! The resurgence of Tsukihime, Melty and Mahoyo are dreams come true. Mahoto especially. It wasn't talked about for almost a decade, then from the ashes, two new projects for it. I'm pretty excited for when the translation for both Tsukire and Mahoyo!
Now us Fate fans will have to wait 10 more years for a better anime adaptation of the Fate route and it will probably come with a rerelease of the VN or something lol.
It would be nice to at least see some sort of announcement for another Ufotable x Fate adaptation. Getting to see the Fate route in all of its glory once again would be amazing. It wouldn't surprise me if they did try to rerelease FSN again. Besides visuals, I wonder, what could be done to make this hypothetical version worth it?
Pretty interesting video! Hopefully the Tsukihime Remake will come to the West soon. I recently watched The Garden of Sinners and played Witch on the Holy Night, they were both amazing!
Thank you! It would be pretty great to get an offical translation, but a fan group, Tsukihimates, is almost done with a full translation for it. Glad to see your enjoying what Type-Moon has to offer, the future looks promising!
@@NeNeiSan yeah of course! Oh the translation sounds good, however I only have a Mac… Hopefully it’ll be on there lol (a lot of visual novels aren’t compatible with Macs). And yes I am definitely looking forward to it! Is the Fate anime worth starting? I’m on the fence about it because I’m watching One Piece right now and don’t have a lot of time. I also heard Fate wasn’t that good
@@monkadude15 That's fine, for Tsukihime Remake, unless you have a hacked switch you can use an emulator on Mac and be able to patch the game! It's a bit confusing when it comes to Fate due to how far it can branch out. It's usually best to start with the Fate/Stay Night adaptations, (Fate 2006, Unlimited Blade Works, then Heaven's Feel), before moving onto Fate/Zero and it's plethora of spin-offs. The quality does vary quite a bit , some being breathtaking, while others are best left alone. In my opinion, the strongest are the Stay Night adaptations and Zero. Nearly every Type-Moon work connects to each other in one way or another; constantly building the universe which can help you understand the entirerty a little better. Sadly, the anime does fall short when it comes to world building and characterization, compared to the orginal VN. Though I think it's best to give it a chance and form your own opinions when you get the time! Just take your time and get around to it once your ready. It's a deep, deep rabbit hole, haha!
Very professional documentary by you, considering how much I appreciate Type-Moon's projects. You missed mentioning one thing. Tsukihime had an anime adaptation in 2003 but wasn't popular. That was Type Moon's first anime adaptation of their projects. Nevertheless, this was a good video topic.
Along with the new mahoyo movies announced it’s reasonable to expect a sequel to the vn, especially since it’s actually getting an official English release (looks like type moon is finally paying attention to overseas fans) and also a tsukihime remake adaptation, it looks really likely seeing as how mahoyo is a prequel to tsukihime and also ufotables stunning opening sequences
Honestly, I don't thing much is off the table given everything TM has done to push their other IPs in the past year. I can't wait to see what else they are going to do!
I like a lot the fate series and tsukihime series so much and I wish that they made another fate fighting game as soon as I heard of unlimited/codes also when will the next fate game be released
The variety that a Fate fighting game can have spanning the entire series is large. I'm surprised we haven't gotten one yet. To my knowledge the only Fate game to be announced is Fate/Extra Record, a remake of the PSP's Fate/Extra with completely rebuilt gameplay mechanics. It's only been announced that it is in development so it may be a year or two. Then, while not Fate, Tsukihime Remake should be finished with an English translation in the next 3-5 months by a group called Tsukihimates.
i really want type moon to lock in. their talent is getting older and they have many projects and potential projects that should get made. i love the og type moon works but i really want a new vn or ip, preferable about the holy church mainly. the church has such a cool aesthetic to it and its just untapped potential.
The fact we have yet to get a series around the Church is insane given how much material we already have dispersed throughout other Nasuverse works. I really wonder what else they have planned besides what we know of. Given that within the next couple years, or maybe even within a year, FGO Part 2 will come to an end and Red Garden should be out, so I'm hoping they have some new announcement of what's to come!
I sincerely hope that with it's new era there will be more endlish dubs and various events will contradict each other less, or at least make it so that story matters. Universe itself considering humans to be the most importants things and even having pruning based around them and then introducing aliens is one of the biggest contradictions in the franchise. And gods in mythologies can die, Japanese gods even go to a hell after death.
People can blame Fate and FGO all they want but without them and the money they made, especially the mobile game, we wouldn't have Tsukihime remake, Mahoyo HD, Mahoyo movie and many other projects to come.
That's true, despite the feeling towards Fate's oversaturation it was a necessary evil (or not) to get the amazing TM content we are getting currently.
Nasu should really stop making new works before finishing old ones Like you can do whatever girls work is after you finish tsukihime 2,the mahoyo trilogy and DDD (and wasn't there going to be a fate/extra remake???)
I agree with that. It must be a lot of stress and work to write 3 or more series , while supervising many other projects simultaneously. Yeah, the Fate/ Extra Remake is still in early development. There has been no word on it since it's initial announcement.
www.readtsukihi.me/home This site here has most of what you're looking for with downloads for the OG Tsuki, Kagetsu Tohya, and Melty Blood Re-Act downloads. There is also a web version of Tsukihime that came out recently: tsukiweb.holofield.fr/title Because of the added quality of life changes like getting to choose between multiple versions of the OST, the auto feature, aspect ratio options, with a bit more it's considered the best way to read it! Melty Blood Act Candenza you will have to find a download online, but Actress Again Current Code and Type Lumina is on steam. The TsukiRE will be coming out this summer in English, but there is a fan patch translation for the Japanese version on switch.
@@NeNeiSan I agree! Like with witch on the holy night, the first Nasu work I fully finished, I platinumed that game. I plan to fully finish fate stay night which I’m currently in the process of. And when Tsukihime comes in 2024 I plan to finish that too.
Fate stay night is TM's work that I like the most, but even I was disgusted by its milking. I hope they don't ever come back for Fate and actually do new stories.
I agree an extent. A big problem is the oversaturation to the point where the concept isn't fun or appealing. It either tries to replicate the Holy Grail War (while forgetting what made the original so loved in the first place) or goes so far out with its ideas that it doesn't feel like Fate and just borrowing names. The thing is, there are so many interesting Fate stories that have come out recently: FGO's lostbelt's, Prisma Illya has been in a good spot for a while now, and Strange Fake takes the classic Holy Grail War and turns it into a "proper battle royale" which executes on that premise really well. But how it overshadows/delays other faucets of this world and the sheer amount of Fate content makes it easy to get burnt out on it. I still like a lot of the current Fate stuff, but I would much prefer to see more Tsukihime, Mahoyo, Knk, or even something entirely new. With Tsukihime Remake and Mahoyo movie, lets hope TM is finding a balance!
The only Fates that Type-Moon did were stay night and Hollow Ataraxia. Everything else was licensed to others. This means in the last 18 years, TM only created Mahoyo and a few other things! They are living off licensing Fate and nothing else! Very disappointing for a group so talented.
Kinda crummy how fans like you bemoan Fate's popularity, even though we wouldn't have modern TM adaptations like TsukiRe and Mahoyo. The so-called "plague" for the fandom should be thanked for the more niche series from before Fate got popular to get new entries. Deal with it.
Personally, I've never had any problem with Fate and hold the franchise dearly, I even talked about it positively at the end and acknowledged what it has done. I don't hate Fate's popularaity whatsoever, I was just expressing the wider TM community sentiments whilst being neglected for almost a decade. With hindsight, Fate has done a lot for their current projects, but at the time wiped out any hope as DDD, TsukiRE, Melty Blood, Mahoyo's sequels, Girls' Work, etc. were hardly mentioned by TM as all they did was pump out Fate. Its only natural for fans who liked other Type-Moon properties, were promised there would be more of those properties, but then see none of them talked about until 2020 be disappointed. This wasn't a diss at all, Type-Moon has so much potential in every series it has put out, so seeing them for so long stick to one in particular is dissapointing. Even still, not everything has been seen through, hell Girls' Work hasn't been talked about (although its existence acknowledged) since 2013, however, since Type-Moon has at least started to talk about and promote their other works with TsukiRE and Mahoyo, there is hope where there could hardly be seen before.
@NeNeiSan That is a much more nuanced opinion than literally calling it a plague like you did multiple times in your video. It's a great way to dissuade fans like me who love Fate and also those other series from liking and subscribing. Know your audience, especially when the vast majority of modern and Western TM fans come from the franchise you call a "plague".
The "disease" isn't about Fate itself or its quality, but TM's actions of only producing spin off after spin off to the point of overtaking everything else around it. I wouldn't have talked about Fate in a positive light by the end if my intention was to bash it and discourage its fans. It wouldn't make sense; I am a Fate fan. I'm sorry if it came off that way, I spoke through the lense of community discourse when all TM did was release Fate. There was a lot of that and it was necessary to voice it.
Both of these are anticipated announcements. I would love to see the Tsukihime characters get a proper adaptation and would be interested to see the direction a Hollow Ataraxia anime would go in. Hopefully we can get one of these after the Mahoyo movie!
@@NeNeiSan This is the first time I hear about the adaptation of Mahoyo, it's pretty fresh. Can't wait to see top quality content from ufotable. I'm not sure how long Mahoyo is in source material, but I really liked Kara no Kyoukai's parts which were between OVA and full movies in length.
Nice video. Though I can't agree with FGO ever growing on me. It's basically turned Fate into a lost belt where truly innovative stories being born are increasingly doubtful. Time to cull it. I hope Nasu sticks to his guns and puts his involvement to rest. Lets all hope he'll lead us into a renaissance of Church, Vampires and the other side of the setting.
I can see where you're coming from. I've have grown to like it and am excited to see where it goes, but the series has started to become stale and drifted from what made Stay Night special.
