These are some notes taken while reading James Oliver's book titled "Mansa Musa and the Empire of Mali". There is also the tentative map of the journey described in the book.
For the map and other maps you can have a look at this blog post:

Mansa Musa was a king of the Mali Empire in West Africa, who reigned from 1312 to 1337. He is known for his extraordinary wealth, as well as his commitment to Islam and his role in spreading the religion throughout his empire.
Mansa Musa is considered one of the greatest rulers in West African history, and he is remembered for his military conquests, his wealth, and his support for the arts and sciences. During his reign, the Mali Empire reached its peak of prosperity and cultural achievement, and he is credited with helping to spread Islam throughout West Africa.
Mansa Musa is also known for his famous pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324, during which he is said to have distributed so much gold that it caused a significant deflation in the value of the metal in the Middle East. This event, and his reputation for wealth, have made him famous throughout the world, and he is remembered as one of the wealthiest individuals in history.
The Sahara Desert is a vast, arid region that stretches across northern Africa and covers an area of approximately 9.2 million square kilometers (3.6 million square miles). It is the largest desert in the world and is known for its extreme temperatures and barren landscape.
Mansa Musa's famous pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324 involved traveling across the Sahara Desert. To make this journey, he would have had to cross the desert on foot or by camel, and the journey would have taken several weeks or even months to complete. The Sahara Desert is a challenging environment to travel through, with hot temperatures, limited water sources, and the risk of sandstorms and other hazards. However, it was also an important trade route and had been traveled by many other people before Mansa Musa's pilgrimage.
Mansa Musa's journey to Mecca was a significant event in his life and in the history of the Mali Empire. It helped to spread the influence of Islam in West Africa and contributed to the cultural and economic exchange between West Africa and the rest of the world.
The main aim is to keep these notes for future review. The quotes are from the book and do not necessarily mean endorsement.
