We where making 8 little leaf springs and thought I'd show you a casual glimpse into our shop.
Just a short little video on how we make the leaf springs in our shop. I figure an unedited version will give you a better idea of how it all works.

It’s cool to see the timing and rhythm that you work with when smithing steel. I guess you’ve done this so many times that it just becomes routine. Your assistants do a good job in keeping time with you

I got a 15kw induction forge/heater a year ago and its been really nice, heats steel to a forging temp in seconds, my machine and its cooler run off one 50A 220-240V single phase outlet. I have heated sections of leaf spring with mine, I'm sure with the right coil an induction machine would be fantastic for production runs or one off spring eyes, you likely wouldn't need to run dual torches or run the propane forge if you get one (unless the springs are very large), I use mine more then my propane or coal forges most the time.

Just got a note from the natural gas company. Expect natural gas prices to triple. This is probably because the public and school busses have converted their fleets to CNG and trucks are converting to LNG . Back to the torch guys.

Do you do coil springs? I don't recall any video where you were replacing coil springs or suspension parts related to them. The spring itself is very simple but, the suspension that goes with it is more complicated.

we sell coil springs. we normally stick with pickup and van chassis coil springs, and we specialize in heavy duty coil springs for those vehicles. However we will do whatever is necessary. We DO NOT manufacturer them tho. Everyone thinks we have a coil making machine out back which I find both funny any annoying some days. I do have a few dodge ram 1500 coil springs installation videos and I'm making another one currently.

So you don't have to quench it you just let it air cool

if you anneal it, then you have to re-quench and heat treat. So if I was turning this into a knife and forging it, then I would anneal it, quench and heat treat.
