@@gregtoope Your mistake was actually really good to see, because now I know not to do that, and what happens if I do. I just got mine today, I got the AU-A04 plus, but I think the plus just includes a desk stand with it, no other differences that I can see
@@xaninator I was just thinking the same thing. I'm considering buying one, and I would never have thought about it facing the wrong way if he had edited that mistake out. Pretty cool to leave stuff like that in tbh, because you can never make a mistake without learning something 👍
I really like how many times you showed the difference in the distance when you're up close to the mic and further away. I'm in the process now of buying a mic to release my first original song on youtube, so thank you for your review on this mic. Thanks so much :)
Thanks for clarifying at the end lol, I'm gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on this one! Thanks for the in-depth comparisons! Especially with the shotgun.
Glad the video helped. Hopefully, you enjoy using the mic. The bonus of buying through Amazon is that you can always return if it doesn't do what you want it to do!
@@gregtoope Yes sir. Absolutely, Love Amazon for that reason! I'm sure this mic will do better than my iPhone though lol. Thanks again for the vid, I browsed RU-vid for over an hour trying to find a good mic that offers a deeper sound and finally found the answer in this video.
@@gregtoope Hey! Amazon shipped super fast. I got everything set up, recorded my first video and it sounds AMAZING! Thanks again for the tips! Having great audio is incredibly important for confidence levels when recording videos and I get that from this mic. Super easy to set up and it sounds great even with my ceiling fan running!
11:56 One thing I've noticed is. You have the foam on the mic, as well as the pop filter next to it. To me, I feel like that's double insulating the sound being received by the mic. Have you tried testing the mic at a longer distance without the foam?
That is correct. It is usually advised that for podcasts ,you only use the foam and for vocals, you use only the pop filter . Using both will actually impede the proper input
I'm not an audio guy much too but I know some people who are and this is definitely a good mic itself (when talking into the right side) but the shock mount and arm stand are not really the best so when you can it's best to upgrade to something like the RODE PSA1 and get a good shock mount. When testing if you move the arm or anything while recording or live or whatever it picks it up but definitely I am going to keep the mic.
forsure. for me once the arm is in place it never moves during recording. but yes a better arm would be great. but that arm costs as much as this whole kit. For the price this is a fantastic way to start.
Great unboxing and review video. Like you discovered the new Maono mic is really for AUDIO perfection because it's made for RADIO/PODCAST style broadcasting. I used to be an old school radio anchor and these types of mics were the only ones we used in-studio, and the producers MADE CERTAIN you spoke RIGHT INTO the mic as you discovered. That is really what they are built to do as the name applies it's a PODCAST mic not really for making videos. However, as time went by even us radio jocks wanted to also be on camera on social media so we would just have a camera record us from a side view or angled higher than the person speaking into the Maono style mic so you can actually SEE and HEAR them really well. Again, very awesome review thanks for that. Expecting my Maono A04H in about 24 hours so this review helped me figure out what to expect. Thanks!
It's funny... The first thing I did when I got mine was take it apart to see if it was a directional mic. I'm glad you went back and caught that later :)
so i bought this mic and i have a big issue, im on widows 10 and when i go to sounds and recording mic is set as default but when i speak into the mic barley the first green bar lights up. its almost like the mic doesnt pick up my voice but when im on stream labs or streaming its randomly going off so im forced to go to -11.4 dB so that it doesnt go off, im getting very frustrated and need some help otherwise its going back, much appreciated guys.
Hay Dear i am searching for a voiceover mic from last 3 months please help me i want some changes in my voice i want crispy and clear voice please suggest me a best mic for voiceover i am confuse in blue snowball ice and in this that you are showing
To get the best sound dont use both the wind sock and the pop filter use one or the other. For further away from the mic use just the wind sock. Just bought one. Sounds like a really good mic for the price
Funny you mentioned the shotgun mic. You could definitely tell when your voice wasn't projecting in the proper placement, as your levels would fade some.
One of the best review at the time. Thanks for sharing the review. Was extremely helpful. Like you said the microphone depends on what is the scenario. For Podcast Maono seems like a best choice but shotgun mike is good when doing Vlog. Really found this useful. Thanks a lot.
awesome. glad you found the video useful. I use all kinds of mics depending on the situation. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching. Always appreciated.
@@gregtoope fo sho after I came across your video not only did I sub to your channel but ordered the mic hoping to get back into streaming and making videos on my channel
I have a 16track zoom recorder, I don't use a computer, I just record to an SD card, would this mic be good enough for vocals and direct line recording?
You solved my query dear... I have been for 3 days looking for comparison between a shotgun ..and a maono AU4 ... I AAM INTO MAKING VIDEOS... so I will go shotgun CM10
THANK YOU SO MUCH...!!!! I just bought this mic and I was really confused about the audio, it as goo but very low, turns out I had it the wrong way like you hahaha... now I like it. I feel nice, it looks nice and it does the job. I'm subscribing now.
Hello. Thank you for this video. I just got this mic but the input volume is very low though the logo is on my side when I am recording. I tried peace software which actually helped but the sound was very distorted and not natural. So any help from your side will be highly appreciated.
@@jayantigeda993 cant really show you how to make a podcast. This mic works well, but knowledge of software is going to be needed to make a podcast. Im sure there are training videos on that topic here on youtube.
When you where far back .. i thought the audio was perfectly fine :-s .. in par with Blue Snowball etc ill most likely be getting me one for gaming haha :D ..
@@gregtoope Yes I got that just wanted to confirm once so that I am clear on it because I was just about to buy this product. Thanks for your immediate reply and comment. Keep up the good work. Your video was great. Keep Creating!
Margaret Kenny it really all depends on the software if it has the ability to capture audio from an external mic source. I use FCPX and record directly to it all the time.
Google UserX actually the color you see if a bit different then it actually is. I do a lot of color correction to the video. And my lights are white with maybe a hint of blue. Definitely no warming
I have the same need - my voice for recording for ASMR needs to be properly de-essed. even if I spend hours learning to lishp and shlur for my awful phone mike, because the voice has to be so soft for what I am doing. It sounds good to my ears...
what are you talking about? you have no idea how we dispose of our plastic. Every box and plastic that we are done with goes into some form of recycling when it can.
what about the noise? is that noise coming from the mic or is it just background noise? like if you would record in a quiet room with no fans and stuff does it record some type of noise or is it just a quiet recording? great review btw
Do u use Logic Pro x with this mic? I use a MacBook Pro 2020 and it hasn’t worked once doesn’t pop up in input or output I’m not sure this problem is common
I'm bout to buy this kit, but I've two concerns: 1. Does it provide decent quality audio when connected to a Windows laptop. As it doesn't require any phantom power. 2. Can I use it to record vocals and instruments? Thanks.
The mic is USB powered so no Phantom power. Quality of the audio should be good as it is direct from mic through your USB port, so you get good digital sound. And vocals should come through nice, not sure about instruments, but I would think that it should come through great. Just watch your recording levels
my microphone right now is broken and cuts out sometimes while I speak so I bought a new one (the microphone in the video) I'm going to be using it mainly for gaming and discord is that okay or would it get in the way a lot?
I’m on a Mac so the only two pieces of software I’ve used are iMovie and Final Cut Pro X. Both are good depending on what level of editing you require.
@Titus Sliffy You can use Adobe Premiere pro for video and Adobe Audition for audio if you don't want to spend too much money on Final cut pro, as Adobe is very similar to Final cut pro with all of the professional editing tools and you can use it on any laptop or desktop or PC unlike Final cut pro which is only for Mac, and it costs less and you pay monthly so you won't have to pay too much at once, and iMovie is very basic so won't recomend that.
Bananovskyy like a lot of mics you need to have it placed properly and you need to play with the audio later to get it exactly where you want it. A little quiet is better as you won’t have any peeking during your recording. But audio levels can be done in most audio software.
@@gregtoope Yes i know, but apart from recording voiceovers i want to use it for talking over discord/skype and having the mic right up my face covering my entire screen is not the most comfy thing so the mic will be around 8 inches away from my face, which (after some testing) my friend's microphone can handle perfectly because it uses XLR audio interface with phantom +48v, i'm just trying to get some info cause i need yo decide if it's not better for me to pay $30 more and put together the same setup that my friend has - U-Phoria UMC22 + Renkforce AT-100 + Boom arm + pop filter + shock mount because being able to set the gain level seems like a necessary thing for me or at least have the microphone if its USB be a bit too loud at max settings so we can always tune it down. You can't do it when the mic is too quiet right off the bat.
Hello, this mic (Tho the Au3 version) seems to work well for males - but bad for females? It hardly picks up my voice, it's very low sound, even with the correct setup (Facing branding etc). I've seen no video from a female rating this mic set, and I frankly hardly find any females at all rating mics... So I am suspecting it's the audio range is made for the male spectrum of tones rather than female. :( I just can not get a good sound out of it, whatever I do. It's always too low and can hardly even be heard AT ALL unless I base my voice or shout.
I really don’t think that is the case as my wife has used this mic numerous times and it has worked perfectly fine. We will be doing another review of this mic shortly and I will see if I can get her to come use it so that you can see how it works with a female voice.
Agree! Not sure if it has something to do with male/female voice but I have a similar situation. I can only get my voice (when singing) recorded well if I am very very close to the mic so I just have to do that. What I also always do is also to increase the volume of my voice using Garageband.
Could you please tell me what kind of post-processing you had on your mic? I have two of those - but they're the XLR versions, going into a Beringer interface. They are really good sounding, but I have not yet been able to get that nice throaty, bassy, body to them. Any advice is appreciated!
I would think that it would be ok as a starter to intermediate mic. There are definitely better mics out there. But for the price this one works very well.
Chris Salazar I am going to be testing a Samson mic soon. Not sure which one. But it should be up fairly soon. Samson is sending it to me for testing. Pretty excited to try it.
I just receive the mic its sound very good but i have my pc on my desk and it a bit loud with nine fan inside. Because of this we can hear the background noise. Any solution? Nice Video btw!!
My only thought would be to move the PC or you can get a portable sound booth. I use one when I have to record somewhere else. Can be very useful. amzn.to/38Xtwho
just got one and am having latency issues when i plug in headphones. using with macbook pro 2017. Any ideas on how to sync the sound so there isn't a delay?
Are you still using this mic? My concern with the mic kit really is whether the boom arm maintains its form or starts to displace by itself after a bit since the entire kit costs less than half of some boom arms alone
Erik Hiebert it’s definitely not the highest quality boom stand out there. But I’m still using it and have no issues. I don’t use it all the time. But definitely use it when I bring my laptop out. The fans on the laptop are loud so this mic setup definitely helps.
