I don't know what it is about Mapex, but I just love their kits.

There's something about Mapex's bass drums...they all sound great, I love them!

Another honest unbiased and balanced review. On the strength of the playing I would buy a set of pots and pans if you told me they were good. It's just as well that your reviews are not sales driven and sponsored, unlike some of the review sites. Keep the reviews coming you couple of gems!

I do love the sound of these floor toms. The kit sounds huge! I would change a couple of drumheads there but not much. What a great pack! Once the buyer is available to pick the shell pack, I wonder how much the prices will rise. But I’d loved to hear a 20” Bass Drum from this model, as it would be my choice with 10, 12 & 14 Toms. Thanks for your hard work!

I have a 2003 Mapex Pro M kit that I got when I was 15. Been through many bands, house shows, grimy bars, recorded with them, toured with them. They still tune right up with a set of aquarian 2 ply heads. I get compliments all the time on my bass drum tone (it's literally just the flattest pillow i could find at my parents house taped in place against the batter head.) Mapex drums are the shit and have always been super underrated in my opinion. Their hardware is heavy duty and just as good as anything from DW or Tama or Pearl.

Now these are good stock heads that can show the kits sound . Really nice and vintage

I get the reluctance to swap heads on budget kits, but anyone with the funds to buy this kit would certainly experiment, so I think it would enhance the (already excellent) review if you were to do this. As for the kit, at £2k it would be expensive for a mapex when the excellent Saturn is such good value and defines them as a brand. At well over £3k, they are flirting with disaster as they are more expensive than the Tama Star Walnut \ Yamaha Hybrids etc. Lose a floor tom and even the Sonor SQ2 is in range. Thank goodness they've included a super sexy, sleek and stylish tom mount to save the day!

Ok now those really sound a lot bigger than they are!

I would love to hear what the rack tom shell sounds like, with their standard rack tom mount, instead of the giant magnetic mount. Just an absolutely beautiful sounding kit from soup to nuts.

How does this compare to DW Collector's Series?

I would have loved for you to experiment with different settings of their new floor tom legs, since you mentioned and showed them in the beginning of the video.

Those Mapex sound great! I'm sure it would add more time & effort but wanted to throw this out there: Have y'all considered showcasing the head swap result that you guy's recommend during these reviews? Hopefully that made sense.

in this particular demonstration i feel that the toms .all of them sustain for too long . I wonder if the floor tom legs need to be adjusted to shorten the sudtainand maybe the cymbal arm back on to the Racktom "M" system ?!

The rack tom mount is way over engineered and although works perfectly well, I can’t see it fairing well in a gigging drummer’s hardware case. Lovely sounding kit 👍

what mics are those you use for the toms?

These tom mounts are getting ridiculous. My live setup has girls in Princess Leia metal bikinis holding up the toms.

Dw levels of overpriced for what you are getting sound/feature wise.

I’m not sure I am liking the direction Mapex is taking their products. It seems to me they are trying a little too hard. I’ve owned a Pro-M set and then a SATURN set and I’m not sure I would continue upgrading. I’m a huge fan of their sets from the 2000-2010 era. So I will probably consider a used set but I don’t know about this new direction. The Tom mount... I mean really?? With modern recording technology is that really necessary? It wouldn’t be for me. I’ve heard low end drum sets sound amazing with great heads and amazing tuning (which is one of the most important skills for having good sounding drums). I’m not trying to hate on these... I just would go for a high end Tama or Pearl over Mapex from what I’m seeing lately. Sorry Mapex.

The drummer is not hitting the bass drum hard enough. The beater is lightly tapping the bass drum.

Great review, but I've got to say, that tom mount thingamabob is ridiculous. People have been gigging and recording for decades without this bulky, complicated apparatus. Totally unnecessary.
