Thanks for letting us know about solar panels that might not be able to handle the heat. You are a model of efficiency! Did Charlie type out a txt msg. in your opening scene?

My pleasure! Someone made a comment that it may be that it was my iPhones fault for the decline as they charge slower the higher they get to a full charge. Looks like more testing needs to be done. Charlie - at the time I was going to keep what his paws typed up but then deleted it.

Cool video. I got my GPX data from Adventure Cycling Association. And the paper maps for planning. I can't wait to see how Gaia works out for you. I haven't used it on any of my hiking or bike packing trips. Just on my motorcycle trips. Good luck on your trip.

Happy you enjoyed it! I went there on my trip last year video "Day 10 Best Breakfast..." I didn't use it as an active map "Turn right, turn left.." etc. I used it to zoom in when I was wondering where I was. You sound like you live a life full of adventure! 🤜 🤛

I love your process. I have used GAIA for hiking since they first launched some years ago. And for wilderness inventory work. Their strength if you go premium is access to maps and integrations with Google Earth when dreaming off route and roadless routes. You were spot on GAIA shortcoming on biking. Biking I rather use RWGPS. Had a paid subscription for a year. I use it for trip logging and planning. Even logging grocery runs to keep my conditioning up. Works on my iphone, ipad, old Garmin eTrex 30, and the PC interface is great. Cons still a work in progress. I am replacing a battery in a Apple 10R after 4 years. Weak battery hurts backcountry travel. My number two battery consumer is my satellite messenger. Keep us up now and focus on ride later.

Great minds think alike. I have a 945 and love idea of bright-colored bands to make the watch easier to find when in the woods. I also remember in another video you misplaced/lost the special charge cord for your 945. Have you been able to find a bright-colored charge cord for it? And I too want to change the runner for a cyclist and the inability to do that makes me sad. Oh well, life goes on...🤓
@HumanontheLoose
@HumanontheLoose Год назад
Indeed we do! I eventually found the charger and then guess what? I lost it again in Thailand and just ordered a knockoff delivered tomorrow! It's black so I'll probably lose it again. 😞😂

@@HumanontheLoose Tie a bright ribbon or wrap a portion of the charger cord with brightly colored tape. I ordered a hi-vis yellow band for my 945.

Were you asking Garmin whether you could use your Forerunner 945 for 'Cycling'? Or just for changing the "runner dude" icon to cycling? I ask because I have the Fenix 5 (the 'metallic-build' version of the 945) and other Tri friends/teammates have - or have used - a 945, and we use both of them for cycling (and multisport/tri). So I know the 945 can do it, too. 🤔 Also, the other colored bands you got that have the metal screwed-in parts are for the Quick-Disconnect feature. I.E. you can change the bands without tools. It works great for the Fenix 5. I've had my Fenix for a couple years now and have needed to remove the bands a couple times to remove those little silicone retention loops (because they're f'n fragile 🤬 and broke off after a few months). I have a Road ID plate that I attached to my band - and the Road ID plate I got also came with a separate 'fabric' loop thingy that I use to replace those flimsy silicone ones on the Garmin band.

Been using Garmin watches for years now, and I've never had an issue with them falling off. I did break the band keeper, and there's a place on their website somewhere that they will send you replacements for free. Knock off bands have always been worthless in my experience. None ever seemed to fit the watch body right, or ever fit as good as authentic Garmin bands. Your mileage may vary.
@HumanontheLoose
@HumanontheLoose 2 года назад
Great to hear you've had a wonderful experience with them not falling off. I also wanted a bright band for when I took it off and wanted to make sure I'd find my $650 item! Looks like we've had different experiences with "knock-off" brands unless you work for Garmin. 😉 My band feels and fits exactly like the one it came with and I've had zero issues.

iPhones will "fast charge" until they hit around 50% capacity and then will start to slow down. I think they will slow down charging considerably once they reach 80% and start to trickle charge at that point.
@RandyArellano
@RandyArellano 2 года назад
+1. This is the same for my Samsung Galaxy as well. This is why the charge rate drops as it gets closer to 100%.
@HumanontheLoose
@HumanontheLoose 2 года назад
Ahhhh...great feedback! So I guess a great test would be to plug the iPhone into the solar panel at 80% battery and then see the speed at which it charges from the solar panel. A test for another time!

I want to know what the magic looking magnifying glass being used for on this trip? Solar panels could be affected by heat, but they are also affected by the angle of the sun. that angle diminishes as the day gets later. The hair looks bleached blonde in this video IMO. they have nice headphones that aren't in the ear and sit behind the ear much smaller that those you took with good sound quality remember the pro actors say never work with kids and animals
@HumanontheLoose
@HumanontheLoose 2 года назад
Sun angle - good point although in this test it was high above me with no shadows. Hair - may not have been to the salon yet. Don't remember. Who has nice headphones? Don't send a link because YT will spam it. Just the name is fine. It's good I'm not a pro actor. 😛

You have all the electronics you need. And who wants to wait 5 hours for something to charge? I found a charger on sale for about $5. It takes 2 hours to charge. So I have to charge the charger to make the charger charge the phone.
