Most dynasties are german, the same counts for the Habsburg, who are originally from swabia and the Babenberg who are from franconia.

The problem is that you can't give them Modern nationalities, because the current ones just didn't exist back then. If you would ask Charlemagne today what Nationality he would be, he would say Frank, not German, French or whatever. The Franks are the predecessor of many Nations, just as they were descendants of an even older one themselves, but as Time has gone on and the world changed, culture exchange, migrations, war... shaped new Countries into existing, having each their own cultural habits but still some similarities trough their common predecessor.

Yeah. Australia is basically a collection of five city states with some dirt that separates them. I have never been to Australia, but I always get the impression that the country is very disconnected since the populated areas are so far apart. Especially if you live in Perth.
