The way this works is that there are two shops on the high street, both owned by one person. So it doesn't matter what shop you go into, the owner wins.

Great Video Jon as usual, It would be nice if Marantz included Dirac Live and Dirac Live Base Management with this model, it would justify the $1,000 price difference over the Denon 6800.

Thanks John for this detailed comparison. I own a Cinema 40 in Silver (as it was significantly cheaper for some reason). I was not sure of the color initially, but it does looks great in a black AV rack... the fascia does reflect what is around, so if you have natural wood or cardboard around, it will look 'golden' BTW, I think there are a few incorrect specs in your tables for the Cinema 40 and possibly the C50.. as all HDMI inputs are 8K compatible (same as C30 in practice), the C40 has 2 composite and one component inputs (again same as C30). For completeness' sake, the EU version of the C40 has 6 analog + 1 phono MM inputs, but no FM/AM antennae... basically you're trading the AM/FM tuner for a extra dedicated analog input.

I appreciate the information you supplied here. Glad you could save by ordering the silver option. Nuts! I see that issue on the HDMI slide. It was a copy/paste error and I missed that row. Yes, all inputs are 8K capable on the new models, but not on the prior generation. So I have several entries not right on that row. I will post a correction. Thanks again. Very helpful to know that the EU version has different I/O counts. Jon

Hey John, Great detailed review as always. I have watched your series since the start of the intergrated comparisons. I ended up getting the cinema 40. Loving it and the sound. You are pretty spot on with your reviews but those little things that add the price higher like the front face window, back lit remote make a really big difference. Anyway for me I got mine 35% off so it was a lot cheaper than the competition "Yamaha" in the same category. Also the looks just make it pop in a dedicated room. In the end it comes down to price. Also got audissey MultiEQ-X free and that made a big difference to dynamics and bass as well compared to built in. It was free as well on black friday last year. I spend several days tweaking it to my preference. Really don't feel like I need to use Dirac as I can tweak so much and the bass managment is great. Using Svs's app give me super quick tweak override from a sub level as well. Super happy and thanking you for upskilling us on our knowledge on these areas! Thanks again!!!

Nah, I want that silver. I bought the Cinema 40 and right after I bought it, they began selling the silver. In any case, silver hasn't been a problem in my experience. My rack is at the side of my theater and my 400 disc changer is silver along with my model 30 and It has not cause any problems on my projection screen.

Hugely helpful Jon for what may come down the pipe from McIntosh. As you know McIntosh uses the HDMI board and similar remote from Marantz and then the rest of the McIntosh MX123 A/V Processor is made in house. We use the LCD backlit remote all the time when needing to know which functions to select and use. That LCD display is invaluable for us on the McIntosh MX123. I do not want to see that go away. Our family is very familiar with each remote as we switch systems going from our family room Marantz receiver to our Basement McIntosh processor. I sure hope Mac does not take that LCD remote away when they eventually produce an MX124. Great vid my friend.

Thanks so much for that feedback on the LCD. What type of information does it display? -Jon
@jb.2986
@jb.2986 5 месяцев назад
The remote displays what source it is currently controlling. For instance I'll switch to Aux to turn on our projector and also to lower our 120" screen...then switch to Blu Ray to play a DVD concert...then switch to AVR to switch between listening modes...back to Blu Ray...etc. LCD helps from making any mistakes (controlling an unwanted source) We also like the colored buttons as we constantly switch among the various immersive; non immersive; and believe it or not 2 channel stereo modes quickly using these buttons near the bottom.@@ripewave

Thanks for this overview! On my Cinema 30 received yesterday, I'm seeing a 5-6 second delay in Atmos initializing and beginning playback (while the video plays silently) in certain apps on the NVIDIA SHIELD Pro (2019). When using Plex (HDMI audio passthrough) or Disney+ on SHIELD, any time you fast forward or rewind, or pause/resume, the receiver seems to take an inordinate amount of time (again, 5-6s) to begin playing sound again while the video continues normally. When the sound returns, it is in sync (this is not a sync issue). Can anyone reproduce this on the Cinema 30 or possibly the X6800H which I assume has much the same innards? The problem is not present on the Apple TV or even on the Apple TV+ app on the SHIELD.

Thanks John. I'm looking forward to the sonic comparison. Especially in comparison to the Denon 4800h as it is available for 1750€ in Germany. About the delivery situation in Europe - Important note - 01.02.2024 - As we have just learned from Masimo Consumer, deliveries of various Denon and Marantz items will be delayed over the next few months. One of the reasons for the delivery delays is the situation that many container ships are currently not traveling through the Suez Canal but are taking the much longer route around South Africa. In addition, the allocation quantity of the 4800 for the European market has been drastically reduced. In the truest sense of the word, only tiny quantities will be coming to Germany in the next 6 to 8 weeks. A larger delivery, where we can deliver the backlogs as of today, is unfortunately not expected until March 2024. Therefore, all orders from today onwards are given with this provisional delivery date. We ask for your understanding.

Wow that was a very professional 1st part review of comparing Marantz VS Denon. I loved it! One question though...but you probably may not be able to answer... When I do my maths, there is a Marantz Cinema 50, Cinema 40, now the Cinema 30 and the Cinema 10. So what about a Cinema 20? Is this still to come? I do look forward watching part 2 of your Marantz Cinema 30 Review and I am really interested to see if the 1.000 USD cheaper Denon can cope with the Marantz Cinema 30 or whether it is even equally good.....?

Could you please check out the eARC capabilities of the Marantz Cinema 30. I had a situation where the Denon AVR-x6800h had significant and repeatable audio drop outs when using eARC. Specifically using an Xbox Series X and a PC. I have videos uploaded on my channel that I shared with Denon.

Looking forward to this one for sure, but also really want to see the conclusion of the Denon 6800H to see how you rate the sound quality against all of the other receivers. I doubt the C30 will sound much better than the 6800 and, even if it does, can it justify the additional $1K?

Hi John. Great video with indepth details. I have a question though. I bought 8015 as its going on sale right now. Do you have any idea if it works for dual voltage or is there a switch u der the hood to convert to 220volts. Pls suggest. I am.planning to take this to India where it is 220 volts. I was planning to use voltage convertors but if something already is inbuilt, its pretty easy without effecting the sound quality.

I absolutely love these reviews! Odd kinda off topic question. When someone says pull your speaker or suggests like 16" off a boundary wall do they mean measuring from the rear (where my port is) or the mid or front of the speaker? My speaker is 10" deep so just kind of testing and hopeful you could share your experience on that.

Great video, Jon. Any chance of sharing these great slides you put together for these videos? It's a geek thing...:) I just picked up an SR8015. I do not need, or have any intention, of utilizing four subs. And I do not need all the 8K inputs. And Dirac is not a factor in my decision-making process. And, for the same price, or less, than a Cinema 40 or Denon X4800H, it seemed like a no brainer. Plus, I get the added benefit of more processing channels, two additional channels of amplification, and a larger power supply. My current build is 7.1.4. with a plan to expand to a 7.1.6. The LCD on the Marantz remote seems useless. It is always shows, "AVR", and nothing more. Seems like a wasted feature. I do, however, really like the look of the new Cinema remote. Any idea if the new remote is compatible with the SR8015? The aesthetics of the new Cinema line fantastic. The little porthole is nice but mostly useless.

Great feedback the SR8015. I think you got lucky and Marantz just listed as OUT OF STOCK and then shortly afterwards marked as “ARCHIVED” you likely got one of the last units. The slides are available to Patreon members. Jon

Thanks for catching the Auro error with the SR8015 - I was able to confirm that Auro 13.1 is support with that model. For Sony 360 Reality Audio (MPEG-H), I see details that claim it is supported: The list of Denon and Marantz AVR models with MPEG-H support includes the Denon AVC-A110, AVC-X8500H, AVC-X6700H, and AVC-X4700H, and Marantz AV8805, AV7706, SR8015, and SR7015 Jon

I concur. For context, in 2011 I bought a SR7005 for $1500. Now, in 2023, the same tier of Marantz’s AVRs, the Cinema 40, is $3500. That’s quite a jump and should make anyone who is thinking of buying a modern AVR, to do so with the idea of keeping it for 7-10 years.
