I’ve owned quite a few receivers but this is my first Marantz, that actually made it into my system. So far, I’m really liking it. The problem is that I think this generation of Audyssey is getting a little long in the tooth. I have a feeling that my next receiver will be an Anthem. Enjoy your Marantz, my friend, they are definitely excellent quality and sound great!

Nice choice! If you don’t have to be the first kid on the block, with processors/receivers, you can save some serious money. I’m really liking that new Cinema series Marantz. I’m waiting patiently for the reviews to hit and the Dirac update. But I’m currently leaning towards Anthem at the moment.

@@blazermdx either one would be great. I hear that Dirac live was kinda spendy. Couple of levels available, and two bass management styles to by. It was something like 500 bucks for the whole software. Audioholics, I believe, is where I saw that info, but don't quote me. Then if you spring for that, can you transfer the license? Or is it only for that one receiver?

I was super pleased with my time with the X3300W. It was affordable and it checked all the boxes for me at the time. To be honest, there wasn’t a night or day difference going from the Denon to the Marantz, which I wasn’t expecting. The Denon X3XXX series of receivers is one of the best overall options, in my humble opinion. Enjoy it, my friend!

How are you enjoying the 7013? I just pulled the trigger on a refurb from A4L. Was looking at the SR-6015, but was hesitant because of having to deal with the HDMI 2.1 fiasco. Then realized, I don't need 2.1, as long as I'm getting eARC! And, then I can bump up my power, get the 2-line display, and some other goodies. My only hesitation on Marantz was Amir's ASR reviews. But, I'm skeptical those details are even audible. In any event, I'm upgrading from an Onkyo TX-NR646, so it should be a def improvement. Been a 20+ year Onk customer, and have some older models still blaring away, but the 646 seemed too rushed to market and has had it's quirks; not to mention all the HDMI issues over the years with their faulty boards. Anyway, here's hoping Marantz (and, A4L) was a good decision! Is there anything in the 2020 lineup (7015, 6015) that makes you wish you would have went more current in model year?
@blazermdx
@blazermdx 3 года назад
Congratulations on the new addition! When I was researching, I came to the same conclusions you did about eARC and the HDMI 2.1 issues so I saved the $800+ it would have cost me to step up to the SR7015. Unfortunately, my SR7013 has started shutting off randomly. Just started happening and it is pretty infrequent so I am just monitoring at this point. I’m not worried though as it came with a 3 year warranty. I’m planning on unhooking it cleaning yo the wiring before I return it. I’m sure it’s just a fluke as I’ve always had great luck with Marantz and their quality. I hope you enjoy your new receiver!

I just purchased a 7013 used and got a great price! We audiophiles like to own expensive equipment but there are ways in which we don't always have to pay sticker price. This is still indeed a modern rcvr and to tell you the truth I like rockin old equipment sometimes. I just had a friend get rid of his rcvr to get one that supports 8k video even though he doesn't have an 8k tv yet. Stuff like that makes no sense to me. I have a buyer already for my old Pioneer Elite receiver. It's a great receiver with tons of features. But sound-wise the Marantz wins out when it comes to music. They are about a tie for home theater sound. But I am mostly a music guy. That 5 channel amp makes it harder to do Atmos. I am sure there is a way though ..

@umat6991
@umat6991 3 года назад
@@blazermdx Yeah, I got lucky on OfferUp and laid claim to that deal moments after it was posted. I also use a combination of AC INFINITY fans. The T8 exhausts the AVR heat to the rear. I then use two S2 Cloudplates to pull that hot exhaust up and out at the top of my AV console. At rest, the T8 shows a probe temp of 88 degrees. Under normal, day-to-day duty, the 7013 sits at 89-90 and heavy listening sessions get the heat up to about 93 degrees, ECO mode off. I had been using an older BK Components pre/pro and 5-ch amp. I replaced both with the 7013 and the out-of-the box sound quality was an impressive leap. The WAF only allows me a 5.1 setup at present. Once my listening room is no longer my family room, I can set up a true 7.2.4 Atmos system. I also have two daughters to evict/ send to college before their playroom can be my home theater room. 😄

Do you or anyone knows if these receivers have a Tape Loop? Until 1999 -2001 they still had tape loops to connect cassette decks and equalizers. Imagine having a Mini DSP, right now the only way is from the preamp section into another amps. So there is no effective way to event get line out in today's gear. We get Component Video in which no one uses but no line out without volume control/tape loop. Nice gear btw enjoy.Crutchfield still has it for $1599.

Just discovered your channel. Love it! I hope you can steer me in the right direction because I know just about enough to figure out I don't know anything. Up until last week, I HAD an 11 year old Samsung TV hooked up to a 2008 Pioneer VSX1018 receiver. I have a first generation Emotiva XPA-3 amp powering my two fronts ( 4ohm Vienna Acoustic Mozart Grands 2010) and an 8ohm JBL Center (2008). I also have an OPPO 83 hooked up by hdmi to the Pioneer receiver so I'm using the dac in the Pioneer. Also have a Martin Logan Dynamo 700 sub vintage 2010. None of this setup is optimal for my Viennas, I know. My main concern is music. I only have a center so better hear the TV (DISH network and movies). BUT I just purchased a SONY 4k TV and can't get 4k until I purchase a receiver that has that capability, so out goes the Pioneer 2008 model. My DISH receiver is 4k compatible. I'm thinking of getting the Marantz SR7013 model. I have zero need for all the extra home theater channels but I'm hoping that the DAC found in the 7013 will be good for the Viennas. And hoping as you go up the line, the build is better than maybe a SR5015...like copper plated chassis, gold RCA inputs, clock jitter, etc. I don't know if all that even matters as far as sound quality. That's what I'm after. But I need that 4k video capability. If the Marantz doesn't cut it on music playback, then I'm planning on getting a separate DAC for 2.1 channel music only. I just hope I can figure out how to set it all up if I go the separate DAC route cuz I'm keeping the OPPO 83 as a transport and for SACD and Blu-Ray capability. It just seems to costly to do this. But the sound on the tv by itself is horrible. Sorry for the long wind-edness. I hope you can enlighten me as to what I'm missing here. Maybe I should've stuck with my 11 year old TV...except I know these Viennas can sound way better than what they're putting out now with the Pioneer. Thanks so much.

Also considering the SR 7015. I have the CX. I do expect AVRs to take a big leap soon, and I need another $600. The x4700h is what I really want but its sold out. I have credit with best buy that I'd like to use. Debating every day.
@blazermdx
@blazermdx 3 года назад
The X4700 is probably a wonderful receiver, going off everything that I’ve read. I too am expecting some type of change with the future receivers. I think Denon and Marantz need to update Audyssey, so it better competes with Dirac and ARC. Audyssey is getting long in the tooth. Have you tried calling all your local Best Buy stores, to check and see if they have any open box 4700’s?

@@blazermdx I'm trying! There's one on display at a magnolia about 25 minutes away. I've set the phone down and waited on hold for an hour yesterday, but I guess I will take a ride over there tomorrow. Then, if we make a deal, I will go home and disconnect (thank God for banana plugs), then come back. I have the x2700h. It would be an upgrade. Using all the channels on this receiver...its doing its job, but my bass management could be significantly improved by stepping up to the next tier of audyssey. I have until jan 16 to do something with the x2700h. So there is plenty of time for me to save the extra 600 for the marantz. It just feels like a ton of money, having already bought a CX, klipsch reference (2017-18 reference speakers...some amazing deals right now on adorama and Amazon on the r26-fa, the r41m, r12swi, and brought together with the r52c. Huge upgrade for me, but I will eventually want 11.2 channels) Part of me is also considering using the x2700h as a stepping stone to a receiver that would last me a long time...maybe in around 20ish months. I feel like I'm paying for 8k support and not getting it. Even with the 40gbps port, after it works..id like it to be 48, even though my tv is not. What if I decide to buy a 12 bit tv in 4 years. I am really not happy with the receivers being 40gbps..its a half hearted approach. I don't blame LG for doing it, because their tv doesn't have the capacity to output more than 10 bit in 4k at 120hz..but when you start talking about 12 bit, or 8k...don't skimp on me! I know, im all over the place man, which is why I might keep saving. I have about 6-700 put aside for it now. So if I roll with the x2700h until a product comes out that makes me happy, I could afford it more comfortable. Thatd be the smart play...something I'm not good at doing!
@blazermdx
@blazermdx 3 года назад
Honestly, I’d probably just save up and get the next generation receivers, when they come out next year, if I were in your shoes. 8K means nothing to me and the 2700 is a fine receiver. I would just save up and get something that you really want. I’m really enjoying this Marantz but it definitely isn’t leaps and bounds better than the trusty X3300 I used to own. My next receiver will likely be an Anthem.
@Cblan1224
@Cblan1224 3 года назад
@@blazermdx 8k means nothing to me also. I would MUCH rather companies go after improving 4k as much as they can, but companies like Samsung are ditching great tech in order to pursue their 8k mission. And most of their 8k tvs aren't even as good as their flagship 4k. Regardless, I do agree. Its a great receiver, and the ps5 is working on it currently. Anyway...I would much rather have R&D from every display manufacturer focusing on the best possible display for 4k60 12 bit RGB, for the immediate future. Thats why I appreciate companies like TCL going after a tech like Joled, know full and well that its barely possible to get enough pixels to display 4k with that tech. I truly believe in 4-5 years, if I don't get burn in first, ill be getting another 4k tv. Likely 12 bit. So I'd like my AVR to have the full spec hdmi 2.1, just for the option of 12 bit 4k120 in the future, if I ever decide to care about 120fps. If they're only going to do one port I mean...they can make it worth it! I'm not aware of some of the less popular brands, but I've been seeing emotiva pop up a lot more. Ill keep and eye on the 2021 landscape, and likely make a purchase in 2022, because this hdmi 2.1 thing is a flat out mess...displays still have no idea what they're doing with VRR, and I'd like to see more than one input, with 11 channels available to be processed, even if its 9 that are amped. They are definitely leaping over great tech just to put sexy things on the box, which I hate. Some avrs and displays could be much better if they didn't try to do all this nonsense. I'd love it if they made a gaming tv with no smart features that would accept commands and not try to give them, because cec can be a nightmare. (I'm going to have to get a harmony, LG's CEC will ruin your day) Any other brand you think i should keep an eye on, besides the one you mentioned? I appreciate you. Thanks man

@blazermdx 3 года назад
Congratulations on the new Receiver! The SR6015 is a nice unit and the smart choice for many. If I were in your shoes, I would buy a 3 or 5 channel amp, if you feel you are lacking something. I will warn you, adding an amplifier to efficient speakers in easily energized rooms, doesn’t always have the impact that many say online. What speakers are you using? How large is your room and what are your listening habits? With that said, the more you divide the receiver’s amps, the more power you lose. Adding an 3 or 5 channel will definitely make an improvement with some speakers, especially if you have a large room and you like it loud. Check out 3 channel and 5 channel amps from Emotiva & Monoprice, if you have a decent budget. I have a few Emotiva amps and they are great. Monoprice sounds like they are highly regarded and are made by ATI. I even love my Marantz MM7055!

The Denon and the Marantz will be closer than most will admit. Going from the X3300 to the SR7013 was an improvement but it wasn’t a huge performance leap or anything. If you go Yamaha, just make you step up to the AVENTAGE line. Yamaha makes some very good, entry to mid level receivers but their AVENTAGE receivers are noticeably better. Do you have access to the Denon X6700? That might vibe the way I would go, if I were to do it over again. That SR7015 is supposed to be pretty awesome and I love my 7013. Those HDMI issues that I’m sitting here reading about, really set my mind at ease with my SR7013 purchase. I’m sure the X3700 is a fantastic receiver, like my X3300 was but I’d likely be waiting until there was a solution to the 2.1 issues. You will be a little behind though, if they get the 2.1 bugs ironed out soon. The question would be, do you really need 8K? I still think I made the right choice, for my needs, though. Sound difference, if any, is pretty minor. There wasn’t a big difference between my Denon and my new Marantz. I’m sure others might argue but I’m just being honest. With all of that said, Anthem is launching their new models this week.. It never ends, haha With all of tha

I just ordered the Marantz 7013 Wednesday. It will be here tomorrow. Got it for a really great price. Is the infinity fan a must for this receiver? My Denon 4310 I’m replacing never got that hot at all. I almost went with the Yamaha 3080 which was running cool in the Magnolia store compared to the 7013.

You plan on adding height channels to your setup?
@blazermdx
@blazermdx 4 года назад
I’m just renting so probably not until I buy a place. I did just pick up some Pioneer Elite Atmos speakers so I will be booking them up to review them. These are the “bouncy” style speakers though, not true overhead speakers. Should still be fun though:)

@@blazermdx They work pretty imo. Sometimes to me it's more convincing. Btw you can put holes in your walls just spackle over it when you move :\ I don't think 4 wall mounts for heights would mean you wouldn't get your deposit back. Just make sure you go into a stud so the wall mounds won't rip out that would be bad :)

Hey Dustin got a question for you . as you know i acquired some Monitor Audio Silver S1's and since getting them my brother has been trying to tade me his klipsch F20's. Would that be a worthy trade?
@blazermdx
@blazermdx 4 года назад
Hmm, that’s a tough one and it would really come down to what I would be using them for. The MA’s are going to be more refined for music and the F20’s will dominate the S1’s when it comes to loudness and bass response. Those Klipsch will also be brighter than the Monitor Audio speakers. If I was you, I’d load them up and do a little A/B testing with your brother and let your ears decide. Sounds like a fun way to spend some time to me:) I wish my brother isn’t into speakers and audio equipment like I am but I give him my hand me downs, so he’s starting to appreciate it more.

Let me ask you. Have you ever compared these Denon and Marantz to an Anthem or Arcam?
@blazermdx
@blazermdx 4 года назад
You ask the hard question! Haha I have no experience with Anthem or Arcam but those are the other two brands that were in the running. If the new lineup of Anthem receivers would have been available, that’s likely the direction I would have gone. In fact, I still might. I really want to try out ARC or Dirac Live. To be honest, I’ve never been all that impressed with Audyssey. Sorry I’m not more help!

Average Guy Hi-Fi maybe in the future. But I agree with you. Audyssey in my opinion is only useful for getting proper distance and maybe levels but from what I remember I didn’t like how it colored my speakers. ARC in the other hand does an amazing job. I’ve yet to try Dirac. But was wondering if I should give a higher end Marantz a try again. It’s been a while.

@blazermdx

Unfortunately, I really don’t buy too many receivers. This will probably be the last receiver I’ll buy for a couple years. With that said, you should check out accessories4less.com They usually have killer deals on refurbished Denon, Yamaha and Marantz receivers. I’ve bought 3 nice refurbished receivers from them and have nothing but nice things to say about all 3 experiences. Thank you for stopping by and for the question, I really appreciate it!

I’ve really been enjoying this receiver, ever since shooting this video. It seems to do everything I need and since I was used to Audyssey and Denon already, there wasn’t much learning curve required. Since the launch of the SR7015, the SR7015 can be had pretty cheap at places like accessories 4 less. I’m waiting to see how the new Anthem lineup looks. I’m starting to get a little bored with Audyssey, these days. It never ends. Haha

I am sorry - but I still don't understand the logic in buying a $1000.00 AVR and then buying separate amps to plug into them and not use your AVR's amps! Just buy separates!!! Amp and pre-amp!! God I must be old (or smart)!! Buying external amps seems to be the trend now! My opinion? Best marketing scam ever!!!

@rumporridge1
@rumporridge1 3 года назад
That’s the ideal set up Les, but pre amps and processors are more money and some are ridiculous money, talking to you McIntosh. So the value in $1000 AVR is still there. Especially sales and open boxes.
