Absolutely great review Aaron. I came across your video while preparing my own review of my 'Grey Maple' special edition GSAR, and I agree totally with all the perspectives you shared. Function first, fantastic build quality define this watch, which is ready for anything from casual to extreme adventures, or that can be dressed up for the office with the SS bracelet. Keep it up buddy!
This is a Canadian brand that makes the best military watches particularly for SAR techs, no other company that tries to make mil spec watches compares to them. Good video, very informative.
Wow, great review sir! I've learnt so much just by listening to you. Was thinking which watchI should get this for my brother and you've just confirm that choice for me, thank you! ;)
Best watch I own and it's quite cheap for what it is. The size is perfect and it's super comfortable. It's tough, not just reliable but really tough and the lume is amazing. I wake up late at night and it's always there ready to read. Even my best seikos lume can't come close. I did expect to wear this watch as much as I do when I purchased it. I got it because it's a Canadian brand and was curious to try a watch with tritium vials. If you get one, get it new or recent since the tubes have a limited lifespan. Worst case marathon can change the vials.
Would be my choice for a though automatic watch. I wonder if armed forces are using something to block the permanent light of the tritium tubes? When I was in the army we have to cover our lumed wristwatches at night...
Claus-L. Müller well this is for search and rescue only you will not wear anything that is not fully black on combat. the saphire and metal parts shine like crazy under the sun. for SAR missions is ok. for combat just a cheap gshock. i have one gsar auto and is amazing!
I used this watch in the Marines. I was in Iraq and always has my sleeves down. Was never a problem and I was in the infantry. At night on patrol the tritium tubes are unreal. They do not flow or shine. They are just there no brighter than they need to be. They really have to be seen in person to understand what I mean. At night in the out of doors is where this watch really paid off for me. I put my life on it.
This watch is really cool. You did a great job reviewing it. I currently just have a Luminox 3000 and after 2 battery swaps in 14 years it still works perfectly and the tritium still glows bright. But this automatic GSAR is definitely something I intend to get. Do you have to get it serviced regularly like other automatic watches? That vanilla scented strap could be a liability when camping in bear country.
Ever been diving in fresh water with it? Silt will ruin the clicky bezel and they will charge you to fix it. If you like a good watch the tag professional aquaracer is a solid peace of kit 500m water resistant and silt cant ruin the bezel.
aaron_shapiro You're the one claiming +1 s/d, which would be better than 99.9% of COSC movements and certainly the best 2824 I've heard of. The burden of proof is on you.
