I've worn the MSAR for two straight years now; I'd recommend the quartz version due to the lower case height. The quartz version makes an awesome daily wearer.

I love my 36mm MSAR and I have the same size wrist as you. I will warn you it wears small, especially on straps, so definitely buy it with the bracelet. On the bracelet, the proportions are very similar to a 36mm explorer with the one exception of thickness. Some people don’t like this 14mm thickness on a small watch, but I think it creates a unique profile compared to most 36mm pieces. By the way, the tritium is not bright. You will not be blown away by it, but it’s there when you need it. Bottom line: 99% of the time a watch as rugged looking as this would be built large and imposing, but I love how the smaller size really contrasts the masculinity of the design. It’s like a 5’4” guy who’s been lifting weights and eating steaks his whole life… tough as hell, but not obvious from across the room.

Thanks I appreciate the info! I’m still debating the 36mm MSAR I wish Marathon would send me a demo model to review but I haven’t heard back from them yet!

@@coldpizzawatchreviewsThis truly is a watch you need to try on. If you’re anywhere near the Windup watch fairs around the country, or the Toronto Timepiece Show (going through tomorrow), Marathon typically has a booth at these events.

7.2” it might be a bit too small but the case height might offset the smaller case diameter.

I have the 41mm GSAR and a 6.5’’ wrist. I wear it on the Marathon rubber strap and it is absolutely comfortable. It’s a true dive watch in size. The size may take a little getting used to, but you won’t regret it. The tritium is awesome. It doesn’t glare, but has enough brightness to see very well once your eyes get accustomed to the dark.

Check the Doxa Sub200T or Formex 39.5. Also Marathon has in the menu a page called “Services” under which they have the “Professional Discounts”. See if you qualify for any. As a nurse I could have gotten in the past almost 50%

Looks like the watch spec sheets and heritage 'speak' to you to get one. Suggest you to also check how easily (and price) Marathon can replace the tritium tubes if you intend to keep the watch over 10 years. My Ball Watch 'Mad Cow' tritium tubes were glowing strongly for the first few years. It's super cool to check the tinetime in total darkness without the need to charge it beforehand. Now after more than 15 years its lume is only as strong as my Casio MRW 200H right after sunlight exposure. My Seiko Monster bought at the same time still growing like a torch upon bright light exposure. It's costly and incovenient to send my watch away for tritium tubes replacement.

Very nice find, man. I’d say go for it. Niche and a slightly strange price point but has everything that could get you amped: the look; the field-dive duality; military timing; 30 ATM; exhibition caseback. All business.

Marathon watches are so cool. I had this medium sized varient for awhile. My problem wasn't the size itself but the ratio of the proportions. I recommend trying it on before commiting to it. The height to me was so tall, so boxy, and chunky that it really felt almost like it was thicker than it was wide/long. It was such a strange proportion. I have feelings that a watch should be a certain amount thick based on the diameter. The thicker a watch the larger it should be. And opposite. If the watch is 36mm it needs to thin down a certain amount. But it is a great watch. Super wearable. And also tough as nails. I had a great time with mine.

I love this watch I'm planing to get it in 41mm with black dial and bracelet because they make very good quality ones and then I'm going to put it on rubber or nato. I'm little bit slow on paying full price and looking everywhere to spend less than a $1,000 but without any lock so far. You will like it , I guarantee.

I have one in an arctic white dial. Too small for most as it wears like 37mm, and as Marc from Long Island Watch say's its his most returned item. That said I think it's utterly outstanding and joy to wear and after 6 months I've hardly worn anything else with canvas pull through strap. As others commented be forewarned it very chunky/tall so in slightly more formal setting I prefer the Marathon Officer mech in stainless steel (one of most underrated field watches of them all).

@@coldpizzawatchreviews Just curious second look as you're going to get it or pass on it? One other thought the white dial reads better since the date complication matches. Also if you're looking for smaller diver Zodiac has the Super Sea Wolf Compression in a black DLC case. Never seen it in person but if was a true collector I'd definitely consider it (like someone who as boxes full of watches)

from my experience via luminox tritium on LUM ..... it ain't gonna look very bright or even seems functional when light is dim, and full effect seems only comes into effect when fully dark and lacking of light. also never forget the effect is gonna fade slowly maybe from 12 to 20 years and totally gone around 25 years in e future . in contrast , while luminous paints aint lasting , they usually can last up to half a century or longer i reckon... i have a citizen NOS from 1970s which lum still works , just aint lasting (last 1 hour?) which i think is also the original capacity of the lum ( old lum ain't that good anyway)

NO, lol, the 41mm already looks small even on my 6.25 inch wrist. 36mm would just to be small.

I have the 41mm. The bezel is 41 but the case is 39 so it plays way smaller. Just FYI. Great watches, definitely recommend. Thickness isnt that noticable for me and it suits its character
