Yup - it's interesting. There are many people I respect, but coming out of Marc I actually believe it. He is a phenomenal mix engineer, I really marvel at the quality of his mixes. Just one day I want to reach this level of pleasant clarity, space, punch, warmt, musicality, and groove in my mixes - honestly I have no idea how to do that, but he definitely knows what he is talking about.
This 100%. You can do all the sound masking trickery you want, but at the end of the day it's just 1 and 0s with plugins. I think the perfect home studio nowadays is a hybrid setup. I now have analog gear to replace my mix bus chain that was previously all plug-ins and could not be happier. Plugins sound great no question but you can't beat the sound and especially the dimension you get from analog.
My Bank Account Manager on the left Schoulder says... dont evan think about it.. My JBL Monitors in front of my ears says.. dont waist ya time.. GET THAT STUFF! I´m 50 years old and a Drummer but now after long a time of Family tragedys i like to lern all the Mixing and Mastering Stuff. I dont know how many Hours in the Night i spend in the past for those Videos. SSL is legend!
It’s a great unit. Coupled with a Fusion, it lives on my 2 buss. I bought it as soon as it hit and its right at home in my desk. Holds its own against some gear that cost much more!
Find the point where it grabs where you want it with the highest ratio, THEN switch on all three buttons, feedback being the ting, and hold down THD to tweak with +/- ,yellow is nice and balanced. Also, hold down the make-up gain-knob to go into fine-mode in order to comprare with bypassed signal at exact same levels! I thought I knew my BUS+ until I saw Marc tweaking the Sensitivity on lows and highs.... I jumped off my chair! was like what??? Me? missed that? Hands up THANK YOU!
All stepped pots. Session Recall will have this soon. I've purchased several SSL pieces that were integrated with computers and they got discontinued and not supported. I love SSL products but I'm sticking to just hardware or plugins. Nothing else that is both. The Bus+ is a beast. I don't need it but I'm sure I'm going to get it eventually. Marc is equally a beast!!
So I've got a fusion and a traditional SSL bus comp that I put on the insert.. If I was to get something like this, would it replace my existing one or would it be better served by being after the fusion in my mix chain?
Marc's got a big flex going! He doesn't have alot of gear but each piece is top notch! Hes got not only the shadow hills but the analogue tube Fairchild too along with some other amazing boxes. Hes been my favorite mixer for awhile he does alot of videos on produce like a pro that are great
I love the G series on my ssl six it rolls off 50hz for the bass can still be punchy i been using softube buss processor plug-ins and plus ssl plug-ins also, have to say plug-ins are getting better and better 👍🏾
Marc, I been tearing my hair out trying to decide on the SSL Bus + or the WesAudio ngBus Comp. I know you have stated in the comments below that you are 100% behind the SSL Bus +. If you were given choice of these two products would you choose the SSL Bus + over the WesAudio ngBus comp? I am not sure if you have tried the WesAudio ngBus. I am assuming you have. I appreciate your time and hope you would give me some of your insight on this question to help me make a solid decision. - Thank you
I still don't think plugins can do it the same way. I always hear something else on a whole new level on every outboard demo. You drive them so subtle and the sound is alive. But of course these things add up on a whole track and are easy to notice separately on good studio monitors.
When Atticus gives it a two ears up I'll buy it. Seriously, plugin recall would be it for me. For my workflow the WesAudio ngBus fills that recall niche, and the Tegeler Schwerkraftmaschine, also for its recall, although Dramastic Obsidian is still my fav SSL VCA clone, and I don't touch the knobs. This is an excellent demo tho. I give the demo a TEN, (and I'll demo the SSL+, as well.) Cheers mate
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we get an affordable rackmount 9000 reissued??? i purchased the fusion and this box now all i need in 4 9000 channel strips and i hate 500 series modules
Stereo. It's only controlled from the left (but you can enable the right VU meter to be active even in this mode but the knobs do nothing). The only time the right controls work are in dual mono or M/S mode. I have one with my fusion.
I really think you would sell tons of your products more if you would made them with total recall in the mind...a lot of guys are already doing it....please come to the future ssl......you've already made vst plugin's..why not connect them with hardware ?
Impressive device. Does anyone here own it? If yes, i am getting a "Minilogue Xd blindingly bright Leds“ vibe. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Always impossible to judge. in the YT videos
Pro Audio marketing in 2022 in a nutshell: Pro Audio Engineer endorsing a plugin emulating hardware: "It's sounds like the real thing" Pro Audio Engineer endorsing hardware: "Plugins can never do this" Find the error.
Honestly I couldn't hear any difference in/out in this demo. I have seen a better demo for the unit on sweetwater channel. I don't mean no disrespect but my humble opinion. I would still love if you can help us with a better demonstration of the unit. Thanks for the video.
Original version sounds better. The original has an expensive sound that is sorely lacking in this one. And the real measure of a compressor is how it sounds at 100% wet. And based off what I’m hearing here, this thing can’t do that. Always needs some dry signal to be a viable option. That’s a deal breaker for me and no amount of bells and whistles or mid-side chicanery will change it. SSL ain’t what it used to be. Bummer.
