CRT proves that the government believes that black people are dumb enough to be used and manipulated for political reasons: the government is allowing CRT to exist in order to bring the white population down. Once the white population is down, then EVERYONE is down - the dictators have everyone under their control - black, white, and everyone in between. That's why CRT is ultimately allowed to spread. It's PURELY for Marxist reasons. People who are used for political reasons don't know they are being used - they are led to believe that the government actually cares about them. They don't. Rufo did not answer questions. He kept pointing to strawman examples, such as the "Asian academic". The question was about suspensions and punishment levels, not a premise that Blacks don't achieve academic prowess as a demographic. The intrinsic assumption of Rufo is that he does not have to invest in learning what Lamont is saying because he can share an example that supports his position. Mind you, Rufo is a young man of a certain age and likely of a level of privilege where he does not have the lived experience of living in a lower class environment where the intersection of poverty and race connects people and illuminates the reality of a lack of privilege and the subsequent disparities. I grew up in the 70's. By the time we got to the 90's, people really started forgetting what "struggling" is. Hyper-individualism became popular allowing people to ignore the hardships of others.

I do my best to look at things by facts. As a person of color, I appreciate Rufo's viewpoint but living the "American Dream" and going through these experiences, I sense and feel Rufo's denial. He admits there's racism and agrees on things that should be taught but maybe my experience and knowledge doesn't let me see it any other way that racism is the main reason for the oppression along with class.

I thought the same thing Leah. I appreciated this civil, comprehensive, thoughtful dialogue between Marc Lamont and Christopher Rufo. Lots of points to appreciate and refute/disagree with on both sides.

@Leah - Agreed. Even though they both still disagreed, they were able to bring logical, coherent arguments to the table assertively, and not agressively. They both defended their points in a thoughtful, civil manner. I actually do hope that they have a Part II to this conversation. I feel that if everyone really did become "color blind", so to speak, then so many issues would automatically go away. Unfortunately, still many people are not Christopher's kind of color blind. So we continue to have problems of which stem from ingrained racism. We will never get to the place that Christopher ostensibly seems to believe that society has already arrived at until existing issues are acknowledged and dealt with head on. ...BTW, I am totally *not* a proponent of color blindness. There is nothing wrong with being different; that makes everyone unique - even beautiful. The problem is thinking and treating people less humanely because of real or perceived differences. But that is just my POV.

It tells us only that this way of thinking demoralizes black youth into thinking that their individual choices hold less sway on their future than the statistical representation of the group. Marc's choices allowed him to escape the hell of poverty, likely crime, and any other number of negative consequences correlated to "blackness," which we've projected as a representation onto the individual, because we've lost sight of the fact that these statistics are simply telling us an aggregated story for the population within the demographic. By way of example, when someone concluded that "black crime" is a problem caused by the "black community," it distorts what we should learn from statistics. In reality, "black crime" is a product of a minority of black people within the black community. And, because of this conflation, true racists among use the "13-50 argument" to demonize all the individuals in the group. That isn't to say that there isn't a problem we all should address. But, it is a misnomer to suggest that "black is black" is the defining feature of a black individual's life experiences. As a related aside, I personally know a very interesting family. One brother was convinced that the world was against him. That was his perspective. He succumbed to the "black is black" mentality. He was in and out of prison, in and out of work, etc. His brother, raised by the same parents, in the same household and taught the same values, who also ended up being my grandparent's neighbor, never believed that stereotype. He believed he could achieve what he put his mind to, something he told me verbatim, when recollecting about race relations at that time. Consequently, he excelled in school and then law school, worked for the State Dept, was appointed as the Ambassador to Algeria and was one of the board of directors of ABC. Mr. Haynes, as I knew him, was a great man and a great friend. Imagine how his world would have been different, if he had followed in his older brother's footsteps.

Crt doesn't hold that white people are inherently racist. It deals with systemic racism and its continued effects in many of our institutions. If that makes people feel bad, too bad. Germany teaches its youth about the racist atteocities committed by some of their own grandparents and great grandparents, but no one would argue that is tantamount to teaching the kids that they too, are inherently racist. The point I was trying to make was that this debate/discussion is needed, even if you or someone else feels the other side is wrong, lying, etc. That person will have to prove their argument at some point. If one side is making baseless claims, they should be exposed when debating against someone who has a true knowledge of the subject. As I mentioned in the previous comment, with the other two “debates” those people were exposed for not knowing anything except following party lines, which hurts the argument against CRT. With people usually getting there information from online, they would see that something may be dishonest about the argument against CRT and may look more into it, as it seems that you have. Your initial comment was one of condensation towards Marc, in claiming he’s trying to do mental gymnastics because of his stance in saying that some men can have children. So I was explaining why that’s the case. So i don’t believe anywhere in my response did I say what my stance is for you to ask why am I using a term such as “man” since I don’t believe it exists. That’s a leap and presumption you made about me and my beliefs. To respond to the first part of your comment, the term man or woman is a noun attributed to someone based off their gender. Gender which has a definition that differs from sex, is based around how an individual identifies, not what pair of genitals they were born with or their chromosomal makeup. So yes men can have all of those things. And also I would challenge you on the whole “female estrogen levels” i’m assuming you’re speaking on the average estrogen levels for cisgendered women, but I would like to remind you that there are some cisgendered men who have high estrogen levels too. Also those levels don’t just remain the same, they can and do fluctuate for a dozen different reasons. To answer you question as to how I define a man, it’s not for me to define. I think for people who oppose, challenge, or try to discredit the identities of people who are trans or non binary, the issue is that you all think everyone should fit into this cookie cutter outlines, however everyone is different. So even two cisgendered men may and will express masculinity and their “manhood” differently it doesn’t make one any less of a man than the other. So my argument isn’t that there is one definition of manhood, same as their isn’t one definition of womanhood. For example a lot of times people on that side of the argument will argue a woman can have babies, and there are cisgendered women with ovaries uterus etc and can’t birth children, does that make her less of a woman? There are cisgendered women who are born without some of their reproductive organs, are they any less women? The same goes vice versa with cisgendered men. So my point is gender is not defined by how individuals are born and what a doctor wants to say is the gender, it’s based around that individual person when they are old enough to identify as they feel they are. and honestly feel free to pose any other questions because I understand a lot of times for folks it’s a lack of knowledge or lack of having individuals around them in real life who don’t just act as an echo chamber.

Gender doesn't really need to have a definition because it is subjective. It's a construct. The same way race is a social construct and doesn't really exist, gender is the same way. Not sure if you agree with that point which if you'd like I can explain my perspective and how both race and gender both being constructs are similar. I'm not really fighting to have gender exist if I'm being honest. I think it serves a purpose in our language as things stand right now because of how groups of people have been marginilized and oppressed based around where they may have fallen within the constructs of gender. Such as cisgendered women being oppresed and viewed as property for much of time, trans people being marginilized denied work disowned from families, denied housing, and attacked just because of their transness. So for these reasons in order for us optimisticly to get to a point in society where all are treated fairly we must have language to specify who is needing the assistance. To bring it back to the points you mentioned regarding my definition and that for you and some others it may be too open ended or loose. The reason why I say there is no layout for what defines womanhood or manhood is because, for a second take trans men and women out the conversation right? I'm going to assume you live and or were raised in america, how many times were you around men who didn't dress like all the other guys, didn't talk or walk like all the other guys, didn't share all the same steretypical machismo things as the other guys, and that guy at least in my experiences and my observation his manhood was always challenged they accused him of being one of the girls. Now in that example that man identifies as a man, he was born and assigned a gender at birth based on his genitalia and he agrees with that, so why is his manhood challenged? A similar example can be given for women, or gay men right? So for me when we start getting into building up these strict molds for what makes a man and a woman thats dangerous and also its a construct so it doesn't have any scientific basis, and scholarly articles will support that its not based around your anatomy, sex is anatomically based, gender is social and or psychologically based. To your next point about if you felt like a woman tomorrow what stops you from doing all the things mentioned. First people who are trans, or nonbinary, or genderfluid aren't just deciding often times it ways they've felt since as young as childhood but could not express themselves how they'd wanted to because of lack of family or community support. Second, the whole paranoia regarding the bathroom situation I think is overrated and highly exaggerated and here is why. It is said in a way that is denouncing transwomens womanhood, and it also is making them out to be predatory and so the only reason they would want to go into a bathroom with other women is to sexually assault them which isn't true. People want to go into bathrooms to piss. Do assaults happen in restrooms? of course but it happens with men in mens bathrooms and women in womens bathrooms but nobody is calling to end public restrooms and just have a bunch of individual one person at a time restrooms. The other part that makes me question the general audience that raises that point is, if it so much about protecting the safety of women then where is the same call for action for a lot of other points of reform that would hold cisgendered men more accountable in cases of sexual assault instead of the world turning a blind eye, deaf ear, or completely gaslighting the woman. To your other point regarding sports (also I apologize for the length but this is an important topic that requires depth in responses otherwise short responses doesn't result in much productivity on the internet) To your point regarding sports, I had this conversation recently with someone. Number one co-ed sports exist on all levels except professional and is rare collegiately. So to say its unfair I would question why. Take the WNBA for example the biggest differenc between them and the NBA is the viewership, which has little to do with the talent level. Women in the WNBA are often more technically skilled than men in the NBA. You take an average player in the NBA vs and average player in the WNBA and the talent level won't differ all that much aside from the man would be able to dunk with more ease. Now when you get into the top of talent in both leagues it will certainly differ, but part of the reason is because of the funding put into men and womens sports on average across the states from a young age. As kids growing up womens sports are looked at as purely hobbies and recreation, while mens is looked and taken more serious. Which is why when you have pro players raising their daughters in sports they tend to be head and shoulders above the girls their age and the boys. So some of it is not so much difference due to gender but due to access and investment. So I think if you put a top or average WNBA player in the NBA she'd do well, keep a job and have decent stats no different than average men in the league. If you put a man in the WNBA he'd be able to rush and dunk but when his presence will not automatically change the dynamic and make whatever team he's on a winning team. Also trans women going into womens sports many trans people take hormone adjusters so the concern about her having higher than average levels of testosterone wouldn't be relevant, and also again there are cisgendered women who have naturally high levels of testosterone as well, theres actually a handful of olympic african women sprinters who got ruled out because they have naturally high testosterone levels, which isn't fair they didn't take any PED's its just genetics for them. Lastly, cause I do want you to respond, as things stand in 2021 I'm not calling for abolishment of the NBA and the WNBA or womens bathrooms and mens bathrooms and saying get rid of them all make everything the same. No, because I think there is reason and purpose for these things in SOME regards which I can explain if you'd like to know. Also there are already co-ed bathrooms, and the assault rate in co-ed bathrooms is not astronomically higher than same gender bathrooms otherwise they would've been removed. What I'm saying regarding the bathroom situation is let me ask this question, for a transgendered woman what bathroom do you think she's safest in? A bathroom with other women, or a bathroom with men living in a generally aggresively transphobic society, where transwomen are rendered the most vulnerable and at risk of violence? I think if you make it a safety issue you would see that trans women would be safest in womens bathrooms, especially where there are only stalls and their right to privacy is higher. I'm sure you can also look up data to support that, that trans women receive more violence within mens restrooms than cisgendered women receive violence from trans women in womens restrooms.
