First off, I said it once, and I'll say it again I hate both Valentines 💝 and New Year's Day more than any other holiday or "national" day that I have never heard of, including Halloween 🎃. Don't ask me why, but Valentines and New Year's Day is just another reminder of how lonely, how creepy and pathetic I really am without a woman 👩 in my life, but I know, my time ⏲️ and my girl 👧 will come, me and anyone else. Interestingly, Marc started to learn how to sing by listening to George Michael and several other contemporary male singers when he was still a teenager, he was properly introduced to the music of Queen and Freddie much later in life, around his mid-20s. Marc's natural voice sounds effortlessly like a mix of Freddie and George.

I just stumbled on this video looking for a piano version of this song. As a singer/songwriter, I think that Marc vocals were stellar! I loved his piano melody. My only critique is that I would've liked to hear him perform the song with Marc's personal and unique performance and not mimic George Michael. The world was already blessed with George Michael. I think if Marc had really made this song his own he would've really slayed it because his vocals are superb and I love that raspy twang in his voice. Marc definitely performed with emotion all the more reason I know he could've really slayed this song. When I heard Beyonce's original version to ' Resentment' I felt that she too could've slayed that song if she just had made it her own. She originally sung it like the original performer, Victoria Beckham. Beyonce then reperformed it and made it her own- she owned it and set the house on furrr!!! That's the version every knows about. Beyonce killed it! I know Marc could do the same so that when people hear this song they don't think of GM but Marc. Nonetheless, great job!
So you didn't know of Marc until now? I discovered him by looking for Unchained Melody covers. Check it out on his channel. It had me go down the Marc Martel rabbit hole and I haven't sighted the exit yet, which is good, as I'm not looking for the exit. 😆 Maybe I'm a weird one, but this performance of One More Try feels very "Marc" to me. This is from a livestream, but if he were to officially record it, he'd put more of his own spin on it, like he did with Last Christmas. Also, check out his Queen covers EP, Thunderbolt and Lightning. He performs close to Freddie's style in concert, but not on official recordings.
Maybe Marc feels comfortable "imitating" George like this, because this is how he learned how to sing when he was a young teenager, by listening to George, Richard Marx and other musicians on the radio and trying to imitate them.
Being a singer/songwriter, you should know that “making a song your own” does not necessarily mean you have to “put your own spin on it.” A true tribute honours the original performer’s/songwriter’s musicality, i e musical choices, presents these original choices to new audiences to celebrate the unique talent of the author/original performer. Marc tributes the original song, not his own talent, which, incidentally, is clearly enormous! He chooses to emphasize George’s talent, yet employs his own talent to do so. That’s mastery of the craft! That is selfless and should be truly celebrated.
У меня такие смешанные чувства, как будто бы Фредди Меркьюри, но все таки не он, делает кавер на Джорджа Майкла. Местами он пытается пропеть мелизмы и вибрато как джордж, но получается как Фредди.
