This is an extraordinary talk and what a fascinating man, he has such an intuitive insight. If only job interviews could be so engaging and interesting.

I'm a high school senior who's applying to college and I have to go through some interviews. They're not the same his life series. But, it's an interesting perspective and backdrop.

Marc Pachter is interesting and you can see that he's humble. I got a lot out of what he had to say. He's an inspiration

It takes a courageous person to be honest in public. To put a name to the foibles and fears and mistakes and embrace all of it as part of a life lived is the mark of a person who understands the value of a legacy.

Great presentation about the interviews -- surprised it went over time!

The main point I got out of it was this: You can get through to someone's "private self" by figuring out what it is that no one has asked them but that they wish they could tell people about. Other things: Not everyone will come through for you in this kind of interview, epecially modest people who believe everything in their lives happened by chance; and an interview of this type is more successful when the subject is old enough to know how things are going to turn out in their lives.

Loved this TED Talk! I just wanted to say though, modesty to me isn't because people believe that they got things by chance, its because they think what they've achieved isn't an individual effort, their were people and situations that helped them get to where they are so its wrong to kind of own it as an individual so I reckon modest people can also be interviewed, but maybe through questions that ask about who their influences are in their success or who they think they owe their success to and go from there.

I've been on more than 100 interviews and I've learned it doesn't have to be complicated. People hire people they think are going to help them and people help people who they like. The person hiring was promoted because of some type of strength that other people noticed, so notice that, make it clear that you appreciate it and let them know you are confident in your ability to do the job.

Funny how he mentions Frost v Nixon. As a 17 year old Brit, I only know Frost as the host of celebrity day time show "through the keyhole". Couldnt beleive it when I heard about the critical political waves he had caused! --- Great vid btw! Cheers.

I'm in a similar position, but in the UK not US. I think I may have to go for an interview for a couple of Universities I've applied for, but my choice in subject rarely asks for interviews (Molecular Biology).

Here in Canada we have a great show called "The Hour" and it's host George Stroumboulopoulos (yes that is his real last name) is an incredibly empathetic and gentle interviewer. He sees the good in everyone! He does have clips of some interviews on RU-vid too!

Toupees and hair plugs are so distracting. We men are so bad at this covering up our advancing age. It is better to just go white and or bald.

learned nothing from this guy, too full of himself for no reason. some nerf talking about never asking humble people on to the stage for an interview
@nikkisummers3184
@nikkisummers3184 6 лет назад
this is very unhelpful instead of telling us how to conduct interviews and explaining the different ways he's bragging about the people we've never even heard of. Who even knows who this guy is no one cares about your fav interviews.
