Marcelo escapes Side Control after his frames collapse or get deflected: If your opponent wriggles his or her shoulders free from your hands and lands at your side, keep them away from holding your head with a Cross-Face. If they land next to you on their knees, shift out from underneath and make a grip on the triceps for the Elbow Push Escape. If they land on their hip for a Modified Scarf-Hold, apply a collar tie and sit upright; pummel a Butterfly-Hook along with an Under-Hook to recover back your position.

Marcelo has such an amazing in depth understanding of jiu jitsu. For alot of people I think it is almost too deep to comprehend. Especially for the new white belts.

Marcelo é um dois melhores que já existiu! Uma pena o conteúdo todo estar apenas em inglês... Creio que teria mais comentários e visitas se tivesse em português também! Abraço!

As you are escaping from under him on the arm block sequence, do you leave your legs exposed for attack? I loved the side control to butterfly.

I use the escape a lot and I don't find my legs to be especially vulnerable. I mean people will occasionally dive on a toe hold or try to transition to a leg entanglement, but I just expect that a lot these days anyways. As long as you're mindful about your leg and foot positioning, you should be able to feel leg attacks coming and react accordingly. :) The more common reaction I've gotten over the years are people running their legs around my head to try and get side control on the opposite side.

the is another triangle example. always three points of contact for best results. three points define a plane, 3D control ... maybe 4D is anticipating moves

Sometimes when I use the elbow push escape guys will roll to their side towards my head. Then I can’t escape.

No. This is Matheus Lutes. He owns and coaches at his own gym now in Long Island, NY. It is called Royal Jiu Jitsu Academy. He is a great coach. You should check it out if you're in that area.
