New content continues - this video will demonstrate how I go about cleaning my track, or is it called coating?
On top of that, I will also be giving an update on the two major projects that have been happening in the background and was the reasoning for videos not being undertaken for a while.
Stay until the end, as there will be content at the end showing the journey of a Loco going through one of these major projects!
For behind the scenes content, the link to my Escarpment Facebook Group is:

All the build and track planning has been undertaken in Anyrail 6, for the Escarpment construction. This is an HO Australian model train layout build loosely based on the Illawarra South Coast line.

Hi Jason, good to see you back mate, although I do follow you on Facebook. I like that track cleaning/coating stuff, I may get some although it’s nearly £30 now. The coal loader looks very impressive, I hope you get the issue sorted with the 3D printer as this is going to be a brilliant feature on your layout. Nice bit of flooring that to a man of many talents!!! Cheers for now, Jason, John

Hey John, yeah, it's been a little while, lol. It looks like a bad LCD screen is the issue, so once I get it replaced, all should be good for a production run. Well 10% talent and 90% dedication..regards

Those bins do look like the ones here alright. Wongawilly, as well as Old Bulli, had the similar bins too. You could always turn it into a working coal bin, by putting an anger inside the tube, having a container or something with coal in it and feed up to the bin. It's an idea I been working on my self too. Nice to see someone else has interest in modelling the Illawarra area, I born and grew up in Unanderra, still remember the old Nebo bins too. James from Dundas Canada put me onto you. I'm more focused on doing south of Coniston to Unanderra up to Donbarton, and Dapto, before it was changed to what it is now, pre Maldon to Donbarton rail project. We shall have to keep in touch, I've subscribed to you as well.

Hi - yeah, modelled from the Kemira Schematics, although it will have the enclosed Wongawilly conveyors. Thought about turning it into a working bin, but I think for now, it will just be a static one. I was born Bulli and did my primary school years at Unanderra before moving to Albion Park. My late Nan use to take me on the trains as a kid, between Bulli station and Central..that is why I modelled north of Port Kemble..cheers
@Ausmerica
@Ausmerica Год назад
@@JasonWood_Escarpment Yeah I went to Unanderra too out on the Highway. Lunch times use to get the glimpse of the milk and paper train coming through. As far as I remember the conveyors going to the bins were enclosed from the early 70's to this day, as the coal from the drift shared the same system. My dad use to work on Crane 21 and crane 30 inside the steel works, and up along that line. It's still standing there today but not being used any longer. I do have the actual track plans of the old Wollongong, Coniston, when the new balloon loop was put in the coal loader, Allans Creek triangle and up to the Allens Creek Bride just before Cringilla, which is still in the diesel era, and the car sheds in Wollongong.

Track cleaning is always an interesting topic. And a lot of people would stick with what they find is good for them. But i have never heard of Deoxit but if it works it is good, thanks for showing cheers Robert. PS i might get you to clean my train room as it really needs a clean lol.

Jason, WOW that coal loader is amazing, even version 1.0, cannot wait to see the final version. Thanks for the great tip about maintaining your track, seeing your trains run and no skipping of power, works great. Enjoy your summer. Have fun. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Ken

Hi Jason, do you know if the cleaner will affect traction tyres. Carpet looks great, without doubt the best looking layout room.
@JasonWood_Escarpment
@JasonWood_Escarpment Год назад
That is a very good question! I don’t have traction tyres myself, so I couldn't be 100% sure. It mentions it is safe on plastics, so maybe it would be safe..regards
@ngaugefouroaksstreetstatio6932
@@JasonWood_Escarpment Most of the N gauge steamer have traction tyres and they tend to react to chemicals.

Fair enough, once it dries it should be ok..but not 100% sure

Hi Jason, Great info.. I have a question that I'm sure you will be able to help me with.. I have just purchased on Gumtree a bargain lot of track, engines and rolling stock. a lot of the track is older track and wondering what is the best way to clean or refurbish it before I use it.. do I clean each piece or just lay it and then clean it when it is ready to be used.. and what do I clean it with..?? I am in Melbourne and just getting back into the hobby after many many years ..... I had a HO set as a kid and now I'm just an older kid haha... I have just subed to your channel and look forward to watching and going back and checking out all of your videos. I have been researching a lot in the past several months thinking of what to get and how I want to set things up.. I am not interested in sound systems, but might dip my toes into DCC once I get the track laid and have some fun with what I have purchased at present. Thanks in advance Tim.
@JasonWood_Escarpment
@JasonWood_Escarpment 8 месяцев назад
Hi Tim. First up, thanks for the feedback! The first question is, are you just asking about the rails? Secondly, do you know what material the rails are? I would normally wash in soapie water, let it completely dry. And either coat, as seen in the video, either before or after laying the track..cheers
@TimsBitsnPieces
@TimsBitsnPieces 8 месяцев назад
@@JasonWood_Escarpment Hi Jason thanks for the reply.. not sure what you mean about just asking about the rails?.... I am not sure of the material of the rails, how do I differentiate the types? I just looked at the large collection of tracks that I have, it consists of a long box with approx 16 lengths of flex straight track from Hornby, Peko Streamline, and some that have GT-italy then 2 ties after just a number 1 on them(that's all the markings on them) and some with nothing but "Made in England R601" on them. Then there is a large box and a small men's old brown suitcase full of old Triang, Lima, Hornby and Jouef tracks, with 2 old controllers one being a Jouef controller and the other a Thyristor control unit (very old and heavy). There is also one other controller from Hornby which seems a lot newer than the rest. I can already see some rust on some of the various lengths of track and want to remove that also. I was thinking of giving the lengths of tracks (with plastic ties attached) a wash in warm soapy water and let dry for a few days... this is something I will be doing over a few weeks.. I am not going to go bull at a gate just yet lol... slow n steady wins the race.. I also like the idea you have used for underlay.. the carpet felt is a great idea. no foam or cork needed... great idea. I am not looking at adding any scenery for a while I just want to lay track and play trains... hahah.... I know others are going to cringe at that but I am a bit of a minimalist and will get to those things later down the track pun intended.. hahaha... I love your layout which gives me lots of ideas... I have an old kitchen in the front of my house which I am thinking of turning into my rail shack/man cave it is approx 5mtrs long x 3.1mtrs wide so I think I have plenty of space to make a reasonable layout maybe in sections at a time... Thanks for your Time... Tim. P.S. I have also joined your FB group as Tim Ge.

The rail question was whether they were brass, steel, or nickle silver. Sounds like you might have a mixture there. Go with the soapy water. Maybe the ones with rust, is to use a mini wire brush. There is nothing wrong with what you want to do. It is your layout, so you progress with what your interests are. I have been building mine since July 2018, and I haven't got to the scenery as yet..but hoping by next year
