I had the honor to play against him as a youth player. He played for Elinkwijk in that time together with Vanenburg. I had no doubt that once he would be world league and one of the best players of all time.
Right foot, Left foot, Headers, Speed, Skill, Short range, Long range, finesse, power, tap ins, bicycle kicks, dribbling, passing/assists...Could do it all. Sad to see his career cut short, Van Basten was kicked and fouled constantly in an era of football when players weren’t protected as they are now. Those of us who were lucky to see him play for AC Milan and earlier for Ajax will know. I wish the quality of the videos were better for everyone to see, but thank you for uploading this compilation. My favorite player of all time, Marco van Basten.
H.M. Murdock exactly right ! I wrote almost exactly the same words about him somewhere once, quite possibly the most complete footballer ever to play, he had it all and played an entire career like he did virtually injured. Behind Maradona in my opinion there is none better than Marco !
@@leonardodelacruz3859 that would be justified. But dont forget, he won 3! Ballon d'ors and was forced to retire at 28! After 2 years of almost not playing. He already had a bad ankle in his PRIME...
Power and grace. Fluid, elegant, tough and fast. What a player. The most beautiful movements and coordination I've ever seen on a field. In a AC Milan full of legends. Thinking of him in the same team with Baresi, Maldini, Gullit and Rjikard, gives me goosebump, it is unbelievable. Marco, thanks for existing.
This is the best MVB description i have read. You nailed everything. He really was beautiful to watch, even just running. The way he moved....with his long legs was just pure ART. P.S....he was also Berlusconi's ( RIP) favorite players of all times.
@@MrMikap74 NOPE. BATISTUTA IS BEST CF IN HISTORY. VAN BASTEN CANT EVEN STAY HEALTHY. BTW GULLIT IS GOD MOST COMPLETE PLAYER IN HISTORY. HE CAN PLAY ANY POSITION OFFENSE AND DEFENSE.
People from the Netherlands will probably remember that till the mid 80s we only had Dutch football on TV but when Gullit, Rijkaard and Van Basten played for AC Milan, we got an entire program dedicated to them and the Italian league. There was no internet so you didn't know anything until they showed the highlights and believe me, they hardly ever disappointed.
@@alikdouh4721 Van Basten was better than him but only when it comes to scoring acrobatic goals. Otherwise Ronaldo had more speed, better dribbling skills and better ball control. Moreover, Ronaldo's goal per ratio is also better than Marco Van Basten. You've got it wrong
@@saswataroy9023 Van basten was a great dribbler but not as good as ronaldo so the only thing ronaldo has over van basten is something van basten is pretty good at ronaldo is more popular but 100% isnt better than van basten
R9 is good in dribling, skills, balance, control ball, sprint. But Van basten is more to Vollley, heading, shot power. for me both of them is great of course their gameplay is not the same because football is follow the manager tactician.
@Nikhil Bharadwaj so what I'm talking about striking technique i know that out of all of them van basten is the best finisher in the box i watched him play
@Nikhil Bharadwaj yh if your talking about consistentcy he was efficient but I'm talking about who is better from distance and has harder shots and shevchenko Ibrahimovic and batistuta have all scored a lot more goals outside the box
When I was a kid and used to play ball with my friends, I always wanted to be a striker inspired by two players. Marco Van Basten and Jürgen Klinsmann. Both made me see football as art and not a simply sport. No player today plays with such class! Good ol times.
Im a brazilian and saw Romario , Ronaldo , Ronaldinho Gaúcho , Careca and others in 70s , 80s , 90s , 00s and say : Marco was the greatest centre-forward, striker I've seen play.
How scary Holland would've been in the early 90's with bergkamp on 10 and a healthy van basten as the dream finisher. Gullit Rijkaard Koeman supplemented with the next ajex generation winning the CL in 1995, Van basten would've been 32 @ the euro cup '96. Could've possibly even played the worldcup 1998. What could have been :)
I've been waiting on a video like this of van Basten for years... brilliant stuff 👌 ... I've said for ages that van Basten is the most complete striker of all time and this video helps prove my point... I like how there is also some footage of his skills and a few assists rather than just goals... thanks for the upload.... amazing 🙌
@@davidvanveen2278 Your missing the point dude, regardless of wether or not Maradona said that (which i called bullshit on) the guy is spreading false information in which i wont stand for, its goes against ever fibre of my being and anyone who has morals, later.
Always enjoyed watching him .and was very disappointed when he was badly injured just before the 1994 World Cup at that moment , he was the best striker in the world.......
The great Marco Van Basten. A superb player whose career was tragically cut short due to injury. Far superior to many of the over-hyped strikers around today like Harry Kane
Ive seen kanes rise from a shit youth striker to one of the most prolific strikers in the epl...u might think hes not as naturally talented as Van basten (which he aint) but the numbers dont lie.Its not like pop music where someone like Drake is shit but is number 1 because he's been chosen. Kane earn that spot.
Higuain scored 36 in Serie A one season, does that make him better than all previous Serie A strikers like Ronaldo, Van Basten, Batistuta, Del Piero, Shevchenko, etc...? Definitely not. Numbers don't lie but without context they mean little. More goals are scored today and more games are played in a season compared to then.
Marco Van Basten the best striker of all time, nobody can beat this guy, i wonder how Fifa game can make him sooo bad in the game he is the real deal!!! Marco the greatest ever!!!
I met Van Basten because of Fifa, and after seen him I totally agree that his card is shit compared to what he truly was. I have come to admire him without even seen him in real life.
@@lelouchyagami95 i saw him because i am from 1979 i saw him and Maradona the 2 greatest football players ever!!! I will every say that Marco Van Basten was the greatest nr9 of all time, the people that think that a Cr7 is better than him are just ridicoulus, to understand what really Van Basten was you had to see him with the ball, this guy finish hes career with just 28years, and he won 3 time the ballon d‘or what you think this guy had won when he continued to play like cr7? Van Basten is one of a kind!!!
Indeed, he is the most advanced, most skilled, most elegant and intelligent and most artfully-inspired number 9 of all times. His way of handling the ball from factory to nets is actually an art. He has the best shooting technique and penalty area flair of all times
@@dexterlambert537 Ronaldo had speed agility and dribbling on Van Basten But Van Basten had better positioning finishing and was a way better aerial threat
van basten was the best at aerial duels. but he wasn't a better finisher than ronaldo. slightly better at positioning. the rest goes to ronaldo fenomeno. dribbling, passing, speed, ball controll. that makes him rather an 11 than a 9, so the first comment might be even correct
he and ronaldo have terrible injuries both as youngs superstars, both won multiple ballon de oro before the injuries, not one of them get healthy to their prime 26-29 still they are at the top of strikers ever, and if healthy problably with a lot more of arguments to the GOAT in the world and in their country, pele in braz and cruyff in holanda for a lot of people in their country still is the top
the guy literally scored 91 goal and assisted like 30 goals in that year lmao ..how can it even be close ...and in 2015.. ..2 besz goalscorer..won 5 trophies that year and a treble ...had the most chances created and assists..who did he rob lmao ..and 2010 and 2019 are also debatable if he didnt deserve them but u cant say anything about 2012 or 2015
I will explain you fully of details. Messi it was an amazing player between 2008-12, before(2005-08) didn't exist and after that just he lives by the past glory that his team mates Xavi and iniesta achieved and he got the glory of them, since 2012 isn't anymore Messi, is better to be call him "Pessi". You talked about the 91 goals in 2012...and you forgot that he lost the League, he lost the UCL(he missed the final penalty that give his team the pass to the final) and he just won a "King Spanish cup". He scored a lot of goals...unnecessaries to teams like Eibar,Leganes or Las Palmas. Why he didn't deserve that Fifa Balon D'oro but CR7 must to win that year?? Simple, because CR7 in 2012 he won exactly the same as Messi in 2011 and FifaBalon d'oro denied him to gave to his protect child. Now lets travel back to 2015...The season 2014-15 with Luis Enrique as a coach didn't started as well as FCB didn't in the last 3 years of Messi dragging and vomiting on the pitch. The coach putted him as a 10 far away from the Forward position where he was played the last decade because he didn't have the speed and powerful starting as the beginning and with Neymar and Luis Suarez from Feb-May 2015 they won the treble, because of Real Madrid's fell and because and extraordinary Neymar and Suarez that won all the matches to reach the final, Messi was "missing" as usualy from the group to the final. Check the facts before you comment please, Messi should say sorry to Neymar to stolen from him that Balon D'oro in 2015...
first of all he was second in 2007 and 2008 baloon dor voting so he existed those years ,dude it is an individual award ...ok you say he didnt deserve the baloon in 2012 ..why did ronaldo win it in 2013 without winning a single trophy ? cos he scored 69 goals and btw ronaldo also missed the penalty vs bayern in the semifinal lol it also cost them ..imagine messi sclring 50 goals in the league and they still dont win thr league..thats not his fault...and btw eibar las palmas and leganes didnt play in 2012 in thr league..what about 2015..are you kidding me..he literally had by far the biggest rating in every match lol ...they guy led them to the league..scored against athletico to win it..scored then probably the best goal ever in a final...and what about vhampions league..he had the best ratio lmao..do you even remember what messi did to city bayern and juventus lol... ? he had like 5 nutmegs in the second mstch and assisted rakitic the goal..was the best player of the match..in the firdt leg he also made a cross and suarez scored ...idk why do i even need to bring up bayern..the guy won them the first match alone lol..and in the second match messi was literally pre assisting both goals..in the final ..messi was dribbling and playmaking..had like 10 dribbles..he also dribbled 1 player shoot and the goalkeeper saved it and suarez scored it..for 2-1 so he was literally good every match ..he also led argentina to the final of copa america that year..he had the most goals scored after ronaldo in 2015 ..had the most assists most shances created most dribbles and you say he didnt desrve it ? loool
Batigol and Scheva were amazing, but what about Gerd Muller, Ferenc Puskas, Thierry Henry (even tho I’d take Sheva over him any day), Hugo Sanchez, Eusebio etc? Oh and that Pele guy. I feel that there’s someone at Sheva/Bati’s level once every decade or so, but the others stand out more and are not so easily imitated?
I hade the lucky to see him in S.Siro various matches with my father..now he rest in peace in the sky..and I was so young (10-13old).. and every goal of his that I see now that I exulted in the stadium with my father, is an unleashing of splendid emotions
I couldn't make a choice between Romario, v Basten, R9 or Messi, bc they're all special strikers to me. They all, let me jump out of my chair from joy, when they did something unbelievable again.
That goal @8:54 is an outrageous piece of skill. The way he volleyed the ball into the ground for it to bounce back up.. incredible. I tried so many times to do that and never even got close. But I did manage to send the ball up and away 😂😂just trying to get over it enough to force it down.. ridiculous. What a beautiful player. Too bad the video quality is mostly poor but thanks for your effort.

@@lilaze60 messi and cr7 have it easy more protection from the ref my point was you could take any of them players you said and put them in todays game and they would better than them both but put messi and cr7 back then there wouldn't score so many goals
The two things in which I believe Van Basten is better than R9: - His outrageous heading technique (Real Madrid goal anyone?) - The way in which he sets up the actions with his team mates Van Basten was incredibly complete, and he played with an unmatched elegance
@@Bill-Butcher Ronaldo had better vision, that's how you can be at right place at right time, his only problem was Ronaldo played very selfish games, he clearly had better passing and set peice ability than Marco. Even Marco, Rickard, and capello confirm Ronaldo is better, it's just that Ronaldo got injured earlier than Marco. I think we shouldn't compare as Marco played in his prime where as Ronaldo had to watch his teammates from screen at home or hospital

Fact: all great strikers started in dutch eredivisie: van Basten, Gullit, Ibra, Ronaldo, Romario, Robben,Cruyff, Suarez, Bergkamp,Makaay, Huntelaar, van Nistelrooij, van Persie , Kiprich
10 out of those 14 are dutch you mook.... Gullit was not a striker.... And there are severel strikers who never played in the dutch league: Shevchenko, Drogba, Eto'o, Batistuta, Crespo, Aguero, Raul, George Weah, Thierry Henry, Lewandowski, Salah.
Ti ho conosciuto di persona a Varese, ti ho seguito a san siro ed oltre. Per me sei stato il giocatore piu forte che abbia mai visto fino ad ora. Grazie Marco Gianfry
My goodness what an unbelievable striker he was.. Some may be better, Messi for sure. But has there ever been a more complete player in the history of football? I hope Cody Gakpo will make my dutch footballheart proud again at Liverpool. Grazie mille for uploading this great video!!
He had it all. Whenever I coach people on how to chop a ball inside or cut with the putside of the foot VanBasten is the first I describe. And his ankles paid for it too.
In england I use to rush back after football on a Sunday my gran would have my dinner ready and my grandfather and me would watch football Italia sera a it would usely be a big game followed by highlights .for me as a English kid their was no better player on the planet. van basten ruud and frank and Maldini. I never hear any one really talk of the greatest left back in my history Maldini. Ruud was one of the greatest midfielders and rikard at back .those players at ac Milan then van basten up front .van basten had so much more to offer but injury at his peak .van basten no 1 for me .then the Zidane Ronaldo Ronaldinho Messi Roberto Baggio Batistuta Romario Brazilian Ronaldo getting a standing ovation at old Trafford in CL .van basten no1
his instinct for goals and positioning are outrageous and he also created chances in forward plus score from it.(for example:something that Inzaghi or Morientes could t do it the whole team had to create chance s for them to score)

@Keagen Jones Dharmawan If I could (and I tried!), I'd give both a thumbs up and down. Marco was a sumptuous striker, no doubt. Euro 88 and many of his AC Milan exploits are magnificent. BUT, with due respect, R9...El Phenomenal, was dubbed that for a reason!! 28 to 34...hmm..there's no guarantee Marco would have won a World Cup, shone in a further two global plus Euro Comps. It's speculation. IMO, Van Basten was a better header of the ball than Ron...but for pace, power, skill, big game performances, edge o your seat thrills...fame breaking moments....!!! See World Cup '98 Brazil v Netherlands....what a game!! See Brazil v Turkey...twice, in Korea and Japan 2002!!! See Germany v Brazil 2002 World Cup Final!!!! Never seen a striker like him. He had incredible balance. He could carry the ball and go past anyone. He could head the ball better than most. He could hit the ball from 30 yards out from both right and left foot. In the box he could be a poacher. He also delivered everything with great style. He also played in the dirties league at the time (Serie A ) where there was no protection for players. I would always have him in a worlds best XI. Truly a magnificent player.
