Marcus Allen would of been the leading rusher in history that jealous sick racist azz👉owner but he died Allen still living amen he didn't run the ball in five years he still a great player
Heisman Trophy Winner, AFC Rookie of the Year, MVP of the Superbow, MVP of The NFL and Comeback Player of the Year. This may never be duplicated in the NFL again.
@@David-vn2id I don't typically care about "stars" private lives, but to your credit it would appear that he has. This was something I watched 3 years ago.
He certainly handled that Al Davis situation better than I would have. He has more class than I ever imagined he had. 144 career touchdowns while not really being played for five years! You've got to be kidding me! I know Al Davis did a lot for the game, but my God, he sabotaged his own team.
Coaches and Execs, ESPECIALLY the Old School Guys don't like Players that are smart enough not to need the game of football. Marcus would have been successful at whatever. If you've ever met his Dad, you know why. Mr. Allen is a different type of "old school", he and my Grandfather were associates and I spent some time around him. They are/were the sort of Men that would get in your chest about your BS... QUICK!
Oh man! I couldn't have said it better myself! Marcus Allen was a spectacular football player, but he was an even more spectacular human being!! He sure taught me a lessin on how to be a better person! Amazing!
Al Davis knew well the wear and tear that RB's experience playing in the NFL. If you don't think that Al knew every aspect of having Marcus Allen on the roster then you don't know Al Davis. I'm talking Al in his prime. Not the ancient Sith lord he became. Everybody wants to criticize Al today but he genuinely cared about his players more than any other coach in the NFL. Until he looked away from Oakland. At that point the Raiders lost their mojo. They haven't got it back since. Money changes everything...
G Man 6 years, 4 years backing up and playing FB blocking for Bo and the next 2 backing up Roger Craig and Eric Dickerson in that order. Still achieved 12,000 yards. My favorite RB ever!
Al depriving Marcus of 4 prime years is one of the greatest travesties he ever instigated. Marcus could run, block, catch, throw, and may have been the toughest Raider ever. Also the greatest short yardage back to ever play the game. Even during those 4 years Al moved Marcus to fullback; he was still voted the team captain. A class act and one of, and maybe the greatest Raider of all time!
Al Davis cost the Raiders at least one Super Bowl as a result of his personal first and Team second approach. No questions asked! Been a Raider fan since 83.
Marcus most likely ends up a top top runner either beating Walter Payton's record or come pretty close to it if he starts those 5 years. It sure would have Emmitt Smith climb a higher mountain to get the rushing touchdown and rushing record if Allen starts those 5 years.
@@LiamDH3021 not even the greatest RB. Top ten, but I don’t even put him in the top 5. I think Barry, Jim, Walter, Earl Campbell, Eric Dickerson, and LT were all better. When Bo was there before he got hurt he wasn’t even the best RB on the Raiders.
Denying Marcus Allen "playing time" goes against all sane thinking .It even goes against Al Davis's own saying of "just win baby"..It truly made Davis look small and MARCUS ALLEN look LARGE.. Thank you Marcus for all your contributions to Football.
What a classy guy. I don't want to take anything away from what Mr Allen did, because every choice he made was his own; but I think that it's also a testament of how a committed dad did a great job.
After seeing this episode of A Football Life on Marcus Allen What respect I have for this guy. He should have had 18000 yards. 160 touchdowns. And what a Class Act not to have such animosity towards someone who really killed your career. I have a whole new respect for this guy really was terrific all around athlete and human being.
I watched his whole career. The thing I remember most is he never seemed to take a hard hit. Smooth speed. Al Davis was a nut job and trading him proved it.
Wow! His last words were “The game is pretty simple if you know what you are doing”. Marcus had every reason to be bitter and vindictive about Al Davis but said life is too short to be bitter and let’s move on. Takes a strong person to do that.
That was one of the best episodes of A Football Life.. if you ever played the game on an organized level, Marcus summed up in a nutshell, and in one sentence when he said the biggest reason that he was great was because he understood what everybody was doing at any one time on the field, because he had played fullback defensive backfield and quarterback after that if you have the physical skills running back will only come natural to you. The vision that's needed would be automatic. One of the top 20 goats.
No offense, but Paul Krause is WITHOUT A DOUBT the most underrated player of all time. I mean he is leading with the most interceptions in all of football!
5:20: Are you serious? Ronnie Lott (maybe the greatest safety ever), Dennis Smith (6-time Pro Bowl safety), Joey Browner (6-time Pro Bowl safety) - and Marcus Allen in the same defensive backfield? Ridiculous.
I remember when Marcus ran in a TD for the Chiefs in LA and there was a banner with Al's portrait and 'Commitment to Excellence' hanging on the wall. Marcus ran over to it and spiked the ball right off of Al's face. I don't blame him one bit because while Al benched him his stats could have become legendary. I was SO excited whenever my Chiefs took Allen-and coupled with Montana it was great with our vaunted defense. I still remember my Dad yelling "GO MARCUS!!!" every time he touched the ball. (Alas, the 'Indian burial ground Arrowhead Stadium was built on' always bit us hard-even harder with poor Marty.) He never showboated-even after a TD he'd simply throw the ball to a referee and quietly go to the sideline always looking up at the clock/scoreboard. So intelligent, articulate, and a class act any parent would want their kids looking up to.
Met Marcus Allen 3 yrs ago, one of the coolest dudes ever! Asked if everything was ok where Hurricane Irma hit my neighborhood. Talked to him for about 20 minutes. Good dude. #RaiderNation
People like to knock Marty Schottenheimer as a coach who "couldn't win the big one," but I still think he's one of the best coaches of all-time. And my absolute favorite comment was when he said, "If God put one person on this Earth to be a professional football player, it would have been Marcus Allen."
Story of Redemption! You cant keep a good man down! Showed class and style while the Owner tried to silence and put out his flame. Hall of Fame Mr.Marcus Allen
I can see where he was coming from. Seeing a player become bigger than the team can be devastating when that falls apart. Doesn’t excuse his terrible attitude & decisions, but he is a legend. Long Live Al
I mean he was the raiders owner when they were in the AFL which was a throwing league and they played the NFL which was a running league but when they mearged he felt it was still throwing that was the way to win
@@Robespierre1758X the word is pat Bowlen now he's the best legend Icon give the definition of NFL... he's better then all Davis's no doubt history says it everyone says it
Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 1 Peter 3:8-9
Marcus was the ultimate Raider. It was aweful the way Davis treated him. The Raiders weren’t worthy of him, though the players themselves held him in high regard and admiration.
Arrogance comes from ppl that arent confident in themselves like they claim to be...Confidence real confidence is shown in your demeanor, how you talk and what you say when your confident about what you do and the ability that you do it at you dont need to speak about alot especially since you personally know it
"There are those who know, and those who don't." For any kid out there who might br reading this, I'll leave you with a little football-life lesson. If you've never seen Ronnie Lott, Tom Brady, Jerry Rice, or Marcus Allen do it, don't do it. All of them the highest level competitors, played their best when it mattered most, were supremely confident, yet incredibly humble. Treated the game, other players, and everyday people with graciousness and respect.
You don't get to say that punk. Your fuck up owner took him out of the GOAT discussion. He didn't hate the raiders like I do, but a man like him would never hate anyone, especially the men he played with. Your team does not deserve the honor of calling him a Raider. He is a Chief.
Lol funny he didn't win y'all a super bowl just face it u had Montana and Allen and still couldn't get it done kc will always be losers and Allen was a winner a raider super bowl MVP and a raider super bowl winner what have K done since sb4 Nada lol gtfoh
One of my all-time favorite players. I had to be his biggest fan when he came to Chiefs and showed everyone just how great of a back he still was. Great video of a truly great player.
Howie long has always been a real dude, about team and win period. Marcus allen! God has blessed me to see you drill your skill and score at will.. thank you for the times 😊
This shotty treatment after Marcus's record setting performance in '83 super bowl. I'll never forget it; was military at the time, we watched the game at supervisor's home. Initially, he was pretty cool. He turned against me after that game. Maybe I cheered a little too hard for Raiders and Marcus that day. He was a Redskins and John Riggins fans. I won the bet.
I've been a Oakland Raiders fan since 1979. And AL Davis did foolish things like his vendetta against Marcus. Look at what happen to them after the early 90's. Losing more way more than they were winning. Wasting millions of dollars on mediocre players. Signing a 1st round qb and giving millions because he had a cannon for an arm. But nothing else to show for. He flamed out before he caught fire. Or wasting more money on players that had a history of knee injuries. The list goes on and on. A team that would find ways to win. For years now it's been finding a way to lose. I hope w/Gruden the Raiders get back to finding ways to win.
Not looking that way so far. Letting Mack walk last year was RETARDED. Theyve now been outscored 75-12 in the last 2 games by the Chiefs and.......the Jets lol. Gruden was a huge mistake
Listen to Ronnie Lott talk about what a great DB Allen was as a young man and the promise he had at both sides of the ball. Even his HS coach knew what an natural athlete he was by putting him at QB!
I grew up a USC fan from AD, CW, Bam Bam Cunningham and Marcus Allen - it was one of the greatest Joy watching him play for USC. Thanks Marcus for such fond Memories
Its a trip too see sop much KC chiefs footage for a man who was such a RAIDER for so many good career years. Yeah I know he ended his career with KC but man oh man those raider years were something very special. I like him in Silver and black far more than in Red and white. I know bridges were burned but Man... I'm just a USC fan and a RAIDER fan.. And Marcus Allen was a great RAIDER.
@@zabercrombie24 thats dope Zach, and congrats on yalls Big win..this year Mahomes is the real thing... and Andy Reid is one of my all time favorite coaches. so much respect to K.C. glad for yall...
From one old guy to a generation of old guys who watched this guy week in and week out, what a gift he was to those of us who loved to watch this man’s art.
