It is very beautiful to see that the same guys who were cheering for "Buchecha" at the end started to scream for "Rodolfo" in respect to a great opponent! That is Jiu Jitsu, our art! That's the way I like to see it, without any unnecessary violence!
I faced Rodolfo that year. As a 45 year old who just received his black belt 5 mos earlier. What an honor to step on the mat n compete against 1 of the best
i agree i liked it when he looked at the refs when they tried to move them and was like "its not a complicated position we can get back into it" but that's something you only get from having confidence in your jujitsu.
Sensacional a Luta!
I would suggest that Gracie family members make a special projection of this video as a seminar "How to resume a position after stop with respect and honor", special guest star Royler Gracie... Anyhow, nice fight, great sportsmanship!
5 years practicing Judo, and interesting in bjj too, i have roll sometimes with bjj players but i feel judo more complete, one time i make randori with a bjj sensei that it's black belt in bjj and black belt in judo, was impossible to defeat man!
nõ me interessa quem ganhou...
I don't get this BJJ community. Almeida took Vieira down. That's all that happened in the match, yet that crowd is roaring. What happened to that generation that settled for nothing less than a clean cut finish?
BJJ has evolved, that's what happened. Today, a take down can define a world champion, as u can see. The diference between compettidors today is not as big as it was back 10 years.
unun septium I agree! Totaly!. But, they know that one mistake, and the opponent is completely able to finish the match. I'm talking about theese two. Rodolfo tried toa sweap, Buchecha tried a guard passing, but they know that when they are fighting each other, is diferent. When they are fighting evebory else, they are realy agressive, that's why are make most of the finals today. But honestly, in my opinion BJJ rules have to be remake. And Metamoris's rules too.
im yellow belt on jiu jitsu and if i know and im ok it is u can takedown the'person if u still on top of that person on the ground u receive 2 points from there the other person hv more way to win making the kimura the triangle or the arm lock if the person is on the floor go to the top of the other he received 4 points the match is over when someone makes 20 points or by submission or ko the person but ko is not punch is put on top of the person and stay 10 or 20 sec can win by dq also
Grappling seemed good, both guys strong and fast, but whatever happened to clean throws? I watched a Judo tourney in SF, and the best ones both went in balanced over feet and tried to throw each other. Seemed more exciting that this, where in standing position, both are leaning weight onto other, so they cannot be thrown clean, but also they cannot throw clean.
you wont get clean throws because its not judo, look how judo guys land when they win ippon,in bjj the fight continues lots of those throws would put you in a bad position so people way more weary, also in judo its just ippon so executing the throws is everything in bjj,as I said the fight continues after the throw, so you have to makesure after your throws you have a tight defence or its throw then get tapped. thats why the difference in how the throws looks.
In this tourney style format, judo and ju jitsu can't be compared. Its apples and oranges. Stick with tourney style judo if you want to see some throws. Most of the time, ju jitsu competitors are not as skilled take down artist but back the F up once it goes to the ground. That is the problem with tourney style ju jitsu... initial take down scores enough points to take the match as their ground skills cancel out any advantages given the time allowed in a typical match.
+Mike Bob it really isn't, if you're reffing, you're on the fight every second. In mma they have a dozen camera angles and a professional crew that switches cameras to get the best view and avoid being blocked by referees, etc. BJJ isn't that big of a sport yet, they have exactly 1 camera per match.
My ? to you is if you don't know whos who in the fight then y r u watching? It pretty simple if your in to jiujitsu at all! There two of the greats today.. itd be like watch n a nba game and your n 2 basketball, asking who lebron james and kobe bryant are...
